Did you start the ECG app on the watch before touching the crown? You also need to set it up first in the Health app on the phone, birthday and so on.
I set it up on the health app fist. I added my birthdate and so on. It just acts like my finger isn't on the crown.

Really odd, I’m living in Sweden and haven’t done any changes but had no problem doing ECG’s. Working as expected here. Only thing that’s different is that I have my phone and watch languages set to US English.

Edit: oh another thing but I’m not sure that it has anything to do with it, the watch is bought in the US. Anyway didn’t expect being able to do ECG! :)

Edit 2: phone bought in Sweden

Edit 3: Region set to Sweden

It's because it's a medical device that requires approval from the government. Blame your government, not Apple.
Crazy, it has a cool ECG feature and all of a sudden it is a medical device :-D
I wonder what those criteria are: blood pressure? sleep tracker? Heart rate? <- not medical?

I have the same on my iPhone XS and my Series 4 Watch here in Denmark, yet no ECG on the Watch after update.

I tried restarting both, but no luck despite region and language set to US English.

Works well. Warnings all over the place that it cannot detect a heart attack. Any doctors here who can tell us if that’s true and why (other than the lawyers made them put that in to CYA)?

Rambo is saying on Twitter that the iPhone and Watch will only work if purchased in the US based on device identifiers.

Does this track for the people here that have it working from other regions?

Edit. Maybe only the Watch needs to be US purchased.

Others replied to him that if you change the region on both the watch and the phone it works. Haven’t seen confirmation one way or the other.

So i downloaded the update and it says on the watch to hold your finger on the crown. I do this and nothing happens. I've kept my finger on over a minute now. I've restarted phone and watch and used different fingers. Anyone lese have this issue?
I have some bad news. If you get no heart reading, then you are ......

It is not a medical device which is why you don't need a prescription to purchase an Apple Watch. But the feature is, which is why it needs the government approval.

im in canada, phone and watch bought from canada. changing both region on watch and phone to USA, doesn't bring the ecg app

You know, as cool as ECG is, what i really want is to have scribble support Swedish.
Come on Apple it is looooooooooong overdue, adding dots to three letters (å ä ö) cannot be rocket science.
