After downloading 9.0.2 I did my usual strength training workout. It registered about 1/4 the amount of calories compared to previous workouts... really weird. Just curious if anyone else notices this. I am gonna go on a regular walk that I do around the neighborhood to see as well and compare.

Update: I did go on a walk and it looks like the results of that were "normal" so now it's either the strength training workout that is off, or the results were a one-off.

Any of you got problems with notifications on v9? My watch doesn't get any notifications from Messages or Signal anymore, but Im still getting other ones.

RuhRoh...I'm going in morning, I'll report back.

It’s kinda wild to see Apple acknowledging and fixing a bug for its competitor in its own release notes.

What about battery life? It's worse on AW 6 with watchOS 9..
My watch’s battery always gets progressively worse after each update.

Doing a complete reset and reinstall of my latest backup seems to fix the issue until the next batch of updates messes it up again.

I would suggest you try this.

I've been seriously thinking about sending my Ultra back (my first attempt at using an Apple Watch) because of a number of issues, and top of the list was Spotify interruptions. Listening to Spotify when walking my dogs was a key use case for getting the watch. Glad to hear this is supposed to be fixed (downloading) now - hopefully I'll be able to solve the other issues.

Anyone notice that the watch asks for the passcode to unlock a lot more now? Half the time i get a notification while the watch is on my wrist, I have to unlock it first. Really annoying.

Can anyone confirm whether watchOS on an Apple Watch Series 8 GPS can be updated strictly over cellular?

My research and the watch app itself seem to suggest that Wi-Fi is required, but Apple's error message isn't being very specific as to what the issue is.

If it's Wi-Fi requirement, I wish Apple would be upfront and tell me right from the start, "Your devices aren't on Wi-Fi."

Instead, it gives me this screen which makes me think it's working...

But then after a few minutes had gone by, I get this very generic error message which gives me no hint as to what the cause of the failure was.

If indeed Wi-Fi is required, then I have to wonder why. iOS can update over cellular, so why not watchOS, which is presumably much smaller?

I mean, your own screenshot literally shows the requirements for updating being that you need to be on the charger and have your phone on wifi.

Wouldn't be the first time that these requirements are wrong, I'm sure.

It's just perplexing than an iOS update can be done over cellular but not a watchOS update, which is presumably much smaller. I wonder what Apple's reasoning is.

I used my iPhone 6s (yes, it's connected) to create a Hotspot for both my Apple Watch and my iPhone 14 Pro Max and the update seemed like it was working, although the time it would take that I was quoted was ridiculously high ("About 3 hours remaining").

I turned off the Hotspot and the watchOS update was paused...

...until I get to a place with Wi-Fi sometime in the near future.

Went and did a "Functional Strength Training" workout today with my S6 as I normally do, after updating to 9.0.2... No issues or anything out of the ordinary. Hope it was just a fluke for you.

How is it after the update to 9.0.2?

It might not be the WatchOS causing the battery life issue but a degraded battery. I would recomend checking you battery health on your Apple Watch. I believe Apple recommends battery replacement at 80% and bellow.

Nope, it's the software. I've had better battery life before upgrading to watchOS 9. Now it's draining much faster

I’ve not experienced any issues on my Ultra after 9.0.1. I’d love an update to add Night Mode to additional Watch faces, and would be nice for others with non-Ultra watches to get that feature too.

My only problem with WatchOS9 on my Series 5 is that the microphone now constantly thinks that wind is too loud for my ears to tolerate.

On a nice day, driving 40mph with my window open and my arm on the door, I'm getting Loud Noise alerts.
