But does it feature the 2nd gen. butterfly keys? If not, I will be so disappointed.
Why would you be disappointed if they wouldn't make a desktop version of the second-worst keyboard ever made?

No back light no touch bar no buy... really??) you couldn't add a back light and touch bar for $129?
It's a wireless, battery powered keyboard. How often do you want to recharge the thing?

I'm convinced there is a backlit-one coming... the image of the imac pro show it.

Sorry, but that's not a back-lit keyboard. If it were, the letters would be much brighter, like in this picture.

You should seriously consider learning to touch-type. No need to look at the keyboard, your words-per-minute rise dramatically, and all of your friends and family will be totally jealous of you.

Awesome! This will go great with the new modular Mac Pro tower (if it ever freaking gets made and released).

Jesus Christ guys can you calm down? This was an exceptional keynote! So many great things from beginning to end, stop being so toxic.

The new stuff was great. They haven't made the new iMac 10% thinner and removed all the ports. Hurrah!

Some of the old stuff was great too, though, like the old Wired Keyboard with Numeric Pad and its a shame to see it discontinued. Lots of people don't like the "Magic Keyboard" keys. Lots of people don't see the point of a wireless keyboard on a desktop (a wireless mouse is another thing altogether).

On a related point, this could possibly signal a move towards a time in the not too distant future where wireless charging means you don't need to ever plug these in at all. You could have your keyboard and mouse charging efficiently, when they need the most sensible top up. But I still think they should keep the wired models around until such a time has arrived. And even maybe after then.

Seriously?? They're making me upgrade to Sierra to get one? Unless someone can explain to me what OS thing El Cap doesn't have that this keyboard requires, I call jerk move.

How dare they make you upgrade to a free OS that makes support and adding support to their OS easier as they don't have to bother supporting a bunch of old versions of the OS!

So there's your reason. It takes time, money, and resources to add support to older versions of their OS which they no longer want to fully support. They don't add new features to old versions. No one does. They add new features to the current versions and those going forward.

No Touch Bar leads me to believe it hasn't gotten as much traction as Apple had hoped.
Touch Bar with Touch ID is a security mechanism and the screen part is gravy. I expect we'll see iOS style full-device encryption now that everything is soldered down on the laptops. The "iOS-lite" support is already there and the Touch ID controller includes all the security hardware iPhone has. Apple just has to flip a switch.. of course they might not want to do that given the political situation.

It must suck to be so miserable.

This is something that has been requested for years. Either buy it or don't, Apple isn't putting a gun to your head.

gun = ceasing wired keyboard

Pointless wireless just adds needless security risk. I found the wireless mouse to be laggy and prone to false button operation, holding it to avoid that caused RSI. I found wired for both to be better for me.

It would be nice to have backlit keyboard but if they aren't going to do wired I guess that'll never come

Or maybe it's a power consumption/production cost issue. I doubt it can run for a month with the touch bar display enabled.
