Yes that's what I just did. B&H photo had them in stock and my old one is showing age late 2012 macpro so thought I'd grab one up
Same here. $50 vs. $130 for basically the same functionality ...

I never understood the point of wireless keyboards. It makes a lot of sense for mice, since you move them around and the cable gets in the way, but why a keyboard? There's also the security aspect. Many wireless keyboards with proprietary radio interfaces are very easy to sniff, and there have been successful attacks on Bluetooth as well. I always feel unsafe when typing sensitive passwords etc. on a wireless keyboard in an office environment or similar.

So no "magic" touchbar on this one? Maybe apple is making slow of TB, customers not as satisfied as intended to be? #touch-id-with-out-touchbar-would-be-nice

I agree most of the comments made in this thread. Wishing there was a wired version, I've never seen the need for a wireless keyboard when it just sits on my desk anyway. Why add more bluetooth interference if I don't need it? Although, I guess technically it can be a wired keyboard if you just leave it plugged in at all times.

I'd also be interested in one with either backlit keys or the touch bar, although I don't know if I'd really use the touch bar because then I'd actually have to be looking down at the keyboard.

If they sold a wired space gray version like the iMac Pro version, I'd buy it. My current keyboard is almost 10 years old and still has the previous dashboard and expose icons, so I wouldn't mind an upgrade.

How dare they make you upgrade to a free OS that makes support and adding support to their OS easier as they don't have to bother supporting a bunch of old versions of the OS!

So there's your reason. It takes time, money, and resources to add support to older versions of their OS which they no longer want to fully support. They don't add new features to old versions. No one does. They add new features to the current versions and those going forward.
A. I did upgrade to Sierra and was greeted with a nasty memory leak (Google it). Downgraded back to El Cap and all's been fine, thank you very much.

B. Reason? Did I miss the part where you explained what about this Bluetooth keyboard had to be so unique that it couldn't be used by Apple's previous OS? 'Cause that was my question. It's, erm, Bluetooth transmitting the alphabet, not Sierratooth. Unless you consider compatibility with this particular new wireless keyboard with a keypad and a few other extra keys a "feature."

I, for one, am elated there is no touchbar. On the new MacBook Pro, I saw no added value and would continually touch it by accident causing unintended actions. Common tasks, like adjusting volume and adjusting brightness, now required multiple actions that could not be done via touch typing, but having to stop, look done, and then activate.

This is just my opinion, but I really think the touch bar is misconceived. We tap on our iOS devices because we are already looking at them...the screen is the interface. But a laptop is different. You want to look straight ahead, not look down, and use mindless motor memory to activate the keyboard, not actively interact with it like an iOS device. Is subtle in its flaws, but I just don't think it works. Plus, outside of the Keynote slide scrubber, I didnt see any app that mad the touch bar a unique value proposition.

Your mileage may vary, or course.

Anyone know if it its a full-travel keyboard or are is it a shallow one like on the new laptops? I'm hoping it's still full travel.

Either way, I'm getting this when I upgrade my Mac. Sure, it's expensive but it looks awesome and I'd love the numeric keyboard. I'm excited about this.

At that price it needs to be space gray w/black BACKLIT keys, and have the MBP's touch bar.

Nice they finally added the numeric keypad, but, am I the only one that is really, really tired of the white plastic????

I mean, it kind of made sense when various Macs had some white plastic trim, but, that is long gone, in fact, they have discontinued making the various airports, which were white plastic.

I'd even like it if they started a new trend and made their power cords some shade of gray, or even better, metal looking, match the metal color of the device.

Which would be a good reason why the touchbar won't be implemented consistently across the product line. Which is another sign pointing to it being a dead-end product.

I agree. I don't think the Touch Bar will be implemented across the product line. I think Apple wants to keep that prioritized for a specific model. And the Touch Bar wouldn't apply to every model as is, because everybody wouldn't have a need for the Touch Bar.

Looking forward to this, touch bar is fine for general purpose use, but for Xcode, I really prefer both the physical escape key and the F keys typically used for debugging.

Oh and for Mathematica, I get a physical Enter key!

While I did like the wired keyboard, I didn't like the cable coming right out the back they way it did and having to turn it sharply to the side to avoid the MBP.

I have been waiting for this for a long time - very exciting although I think they need to lower keyboard prices.
It looked like the space gray keyboard for the iMac Pro will be different and have the 2nd gen butterfly mechanism (from the trailer).

About bloody time.

Awesome, little late, but awesome.

And we only had to ask for one for like 10 years

Holy crap! About time. Finally! Wow I never thought I'd see the day.

About ******* time.

Eight years ago would have been better.

Perhaps one of them rare times where "Steve wouldn't have allowed this" may actually be true explaining the delay/timing of this,.

I am suspecting that the TouchBar is probably dead-ended now since this was updated without putting a touchbar on it.

it seemed like a long shot, anyway.

Touchbar is dead. Macs won't be going touchscreen… until they force us to get iPad pros.

Nobody is forcing you onto an iPad Pro.

If you need a mouse there are Macs from Apple. If you want a touch based device there are lots of iOS based options.

From Execs recent words they have no interest in merging pointer and touch driven interfaces. 2 sperate interfaces, 2 seperate OSes. The Surface Pro is a great middle ground if you want an average tablet and avergage laptop rolled into one device.

While Tim is showing you how awesome it is, feeding it through a metal hoop to show it has no wires, his assistants come up behind you and surreptitiously remove your wallet.

Nobody is forcing you to buy this - so your money is not going anywhere. If it is out of your budget or doesn't meet your requirements buy something else.

They didn't even put a finger scanner on it. That would be useful to authenticate without typing in password. Thats strangely missing.

Apple have had plenty of time to integrate a touchbar - yes - it looks like touchbar is on life support.

&

No Touch Bar leads me to believe it hasn't gotten as much traction as Apple had hoped.

Or plenty of other reasons.

- Maybe with the Touch ID portion of the Touch Bar they didn't want to add a secure enclave and all the associated parts to make that work.
- Maybe the latency over USB means the TouchBar wouldn't work so well.

I love the TB on the MBP. Especially when customised with Better Touch Tool. Luckily I'm a MBP user and have little need for a standalone keyboard right now so I'm lucky it's built right into the body of the computer.

Touch Bar Magic Keyboard... Would anyway honestly buy one for twice the price of a normal keyboard, or a 129$ premium with your new iMac? Because that price is what you can probably expect.

It would be nice, but I hear too many people complain about the lack of a cheaper non-Touch Bar 15" that I think it's not that essential.

A Touch Bar keyboard at this point in time would mean Apple introducing a wired keyboard, something they seem to be reluctant in doing and haven't done for a long time.

I think I missed something here. What makes this keyboard 'magic'?

It IS magic!

It gets you to pay a BUTTLOAD of cash for 'a keyboard' that doesn't have any back light, yet DOES have a battery! Oh, and a 'numeric keypad' on the right side! That's AMAZING!!! Radical!!! CUTTING EDGE!!!

Plus how 'revolutionary' is this: a keyboard with a battery!!! And it's rechargeable at that! Why that's so incredibly worth the money!

NOT!!!

Screw the 'touchbar', I'd LOVE to get a back-lit cordless keyboard! THAT would be worth $129.99!!!

And with all of the complaints I've read and heard about the keyboard below that 'touchbar', I'm thinking that if this new wireless keyboard uses the same crappy keys as the new MacBook Pro, this turkey is going to sell like sno-cones in Barrow Alaska!

The furious noise from that keyboard is enough to drive someone to throw it through a window!!!

(I almost inherited a brand new 15" MacBook Pro due to the keyboard. They now use a wireless keyboard in their meetings. Yes. Another indication that Apple just doesn't have a grasp, or a clue. How that must look to people that were thinking of buying a new MacBook Pro!)

The original wireless Apple keyboard cost 60 some odd bucks and lacked the numeric keypad. They added a numeric keypad with built-in rechargeable batteries and magically doubled the price. Don't you think this is a marketing magic?

I don't want a battery powered keyboard. It's pointless and inconvenient

Then buy one from another source. There are billions and billions of UNIVERSAL Serial Bus keyboards available. Some are more expensive; most are less expensive. Lots of options.

Your complaining is what is pointless. If you think something doesn't fit your needs, then don't buy it.

Guess I need to hurry up and buy a new old one.

Plenty of old AAPL keyboards available on EBay. I recently got an Apple M9034LL/A keyboard for someone who loved that design but had a failure on their old one.

What aspect of the trailer hinted at this?

The 2nd gen mechanism is a world of difference.

Purely the lighting when I first saw it, but after seeing it again and seeing videos of it, I am pretty confident that it isn't - It looks like the same mechanism that's on the current Magic Keyboards.

It does make a difference, my only problems with it is the sound (I like it but it can be annoying for others) and the inconsistency with feel.

But does it feature the 2nd gen. butterfly keys? If not, I will be so disappointed.

Do you mean the scissor mechanism keys?

Overview
Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad features an extended layout, with document navigation controls for quick scrolling and full-size arrow keys for gaming. A scissor mechanism beneath each key allows for increased stability, while optimized key travel and a low profile provide a comfortable and precise typing experience. The numeric keypad is also great for spreadsheets and finance applications. And the built-in, rechargeable battery is incredibly long-lasting, powering your keyboard for about a month or more between charges.1
