It’s still amazing to me how Apple can release iOS updates to hundreds of millions of devices at once and more often than not with no issues to speak of. Microsoft just had to pull a Windows 10 update because it was inadvertently deleting some people’s documents.
Ah, indeed.
Incredible features like charging, Wifi/LTE/Bluetooth only get appreciated when they fail from time to time. Thanks to the millions and millions of beta testers out there and Apple (that could have waited for the XS Max 2 to bring them back...) ;)

I hadn’t even noticed the iPad “.123?” Button had moved. But now that I think about it I was getting the emoji keyboard far more often than usual
Hadn't noticed? Geez. I was ready to book a flight west with a box full of hammers.

I have an issue where pictures whether it be online or Facebook appear blurry at first. I would have to refresh or back out of picture and open it again to get clear visual. Does anyone know how to correct this? Thanks

With iOS almost certainly getting a dark mode and marzipan on the Mac probably meaning that we’ll get a combined UI refresh, ok that’s cool.

However, apart from these features, I’d like Apple to slow it down still with core OS feature updates for existing devices.

Fine, refine what’s there, but for the moment I think 18 months of stability is needed.

Let the new features be on new hardware and give us all a break from endless bugs.

Btw my iPhone 7 kept on getting thrown off my WiFi (which isn’t very good anyway) way more since I installed 12.0 - and now I realise that it was 12.0.

Microsoft makes one realize apple’s qc/qa is pretty good after all. ;)

That makes one realize in what league they are

My only complaint with iOS 12 is the store. So much scrolling back and forth on my iPhone 5S. iOS 10 store is way better. Too bad there's not a way to to choose which store model you want to use.

That’s what I asked myself too. None of us Apple People would go to an Android forum and bash the products, at least I‘m not aware of it. And i don’t care about any Android devices at all.
I just think that those haters are too broke to get themselves Apple products and they try to compensate that with showing hate.

I know that the camera switching sucks in iOS12 on FaceTime but why „a fix“ cause this was made by Apple on purpose and it ain’t a bug.
Go to some Android forums the bashing is there. Jealously that Apple products are always behind PC and Android in terms of feature set. ,)~

The 12.0.1 update did not fix the “.?123” key location on my 12.9 iPad. I have two other iPads, and the keyboards were corrected with the update. Just some of the strange inconsistencies I have experienced with Apple hardware and software lately. Anyone else experience this issue?

RamGuy, I'm seeing the same issues with my XS Max and it consistently has weaker signal strength than my other devices all on the new 12.0.1 update. Can you confirm how you're measuring the dBM signal measurements? Are you doing it via an App on iOS or through your Ubiquiti AC?

I'm basing it on whats being reported on my Ubiquiti UniFi-controller.

It was definitely irritating early on, but since I had been on the public beta, this meant that I have had months to get used to the new layout.

And now I have to switch back again. Ah well...

When will the update come for the calibration of your terrible new oled screens. They are way to warm. Consider this a warning. If it’s not a simple software fix and a hardware fix. Apple needs to acknowledge it. I paid way to much for this promoted as superior display to end up as being the worst garbage with a yellow tint to the display. I’m gathering thousands of other complaintants and will bring class action. I want my money back on the iPhone X right now. If your listening Apple today is day 17 of this garbage iPhone X’s Max. If you want my mouth to shut then you need to reach out to me with a full refund and opportunity to get my iPhone X back. Apple you need to be consistent in your product. Especially the displays. And especially when your promoting as the best ever. It’s a lie and you know it. So now I’ll be expecting the phone call from that ******** named John in your Texas office.

So, becuase you have this issue, you believe that 'thousands of others' are complaining as well, Go back from the rock which you crawled out from. Also, Apple probably doesn't listen to any public forum, there are too many of them and just too many posts to keep up with. Since you decided to wait past the 14 days return policy, I guess you are SOL. Should have returned it 3 days ago.

Apparently it doesn’t work over the air even on WiFi..
Had no issue over WiFi doing the update, its is done

As for the FaceTime camera switching button, I agree with the others here, it's the most annoying thing they have done, well, besides removing the headphone jack, removing the Touch-Id. I guess it was just 'BRAVE'.

It was my understanding that Apple does not allow access to the WIFI information and as such, you don't find network signal strength apps (or any utility app that would need access to the WIFI hardware), on iPhones. That's why I have to carry an Android device with me to do my job.

A shame they didn’ t fix 1080p24 playback that stutters when auto brightness kicks in on YouTube , ITunes and Netflix .

Just try it, move around while playing 1080p24, forcing auto brightness to kick in due to changing environment lighting. It stutters and gets very jerky.

Works fine here. no stuttering on Netflix or home streaming via tv.app. Didn’t try YouTube, because I’m not a 14 year old.

This is some of the worst whining I have ever seen. You had a return policy through Apple or your carrier. Get it together dude and stop blaming other people for your ignorance.

With this update my phone doesn’t let go of the 5Ghz connection even in the farthest corner of my home. It should switch to 2.4 but still tries to keep the 5G active and ends up showing 4G.
Same here now, and if too weak it goes to my 1-2 bars of LTE that I have near my house (and that works fine but not as fast in a full 4 bar area).

And FYI I always had this issue with Xs, 7 and 6 plus the 2.4 is simply stronger and it always grabs the stronger 2.4 signal eventually when I get too far from it or come back home. What changed for me though was I could not use my 5ghz at all out side with my Xs and 12.0 iOS. Unlike older phones and iOS's which I could use outside. I can now stay connected and use 5ghz outside unlike before with the update so for me I it improves my only issue.

And I have told phone to forget the 2.4 band so that it will always grab only the 5.0 ghz when it detects it at all and it seems to work and hold. Once in awhile it drops to my LTE when too far and weak but as soon as nearer jumps back on and I am back to normal use as far as my experience with older phones was.

Ok,
4 questions:
-what model iPhone ?
-is auto brightness enabled?
-did you move from a dark to bright environments during playback?
-what Netflix content?

Check the battery health, on a old phone like that its probably because the age of the battery..

It's not an old phone. Battery health is fine.
iOS 12 is the problem.
Others have reported same issues, even with brand new phones & batteries.
Am currently testing iOS 12.0.1.

A properly calibrated screen is a bit warm until your eyes get used to it.. mine is perfect

cmaier, I believe dmylrea is spot on... iOS prevents developers from getting direct access to hardware specific metrics / readings. While there are many Network Tools / Apps that measure ping times, packet latency and throughput to a dedicated endpoint like Ookla's Speedtest servers, there are no Apps that actually show the Strength of the Wifi signal (usually measured in dBm) from your iOS device to your home router / access point, etc. The closest App that I've found for measuring anything useful and benchmarking local wifi connectivity is "Wi-Fi SweetSpots".

I've installed 12.0.1 on XS Max and my 5Ghz signal strength continues to be weaker than my older iPad Mini 4 and iPhone 7 Plus both running this latest iOS release. Using Wi-Fi SweetSpots app, it's easy to see how the local throughput to your router (not to the internet) is inconsistent and tends to fluctuate more when comparing to older devices on the Qualcomm chips.
