I hadn’t even noticed the iPad “.123?” Button had moved. But now that I think about it I was getting the emoji keyboard far more often than usual

I noticed right after the update, that they changed it. I always kept switching the keyboard. It was very annoying and I'm glad they changed it back

I updated my iPhone Xs Max, my wifes iPhone Xs and our iPad Pro 12-inch 2.Gen and the results according to our Ubiquiti UniFi-controller is basically the same. We have 2x Ubiquiti UniFi AC HD (Qualcomm-Atheros QCA9994 chipset) access points and the results are pretty consistent.

The issue with iPhone Xs and Xs Max isn't throughput. Its fully capable of maintaining great 802.11ac RX and TX rates when located in short proximity of the access points. Speed test also verifies that its fully capable of using our 500/500 mbit bandwidth. There are no real issues there.

But the signal strength is disturbing even when located in close proximity. In my computer room sitting just 1 meter from the Access Point it's reporting a signal strength of 79% (-59 dBm). Our HomePod in the same room is reporting 99% (-47 dBm) and the HomePod in the hallway a few meters away is reporting 97% (-52 dBm). My Apple Watch Series 4 is reporting 84% (-43 dBm) but the Apple Watch doesn't seem to be supporting 5.0GHz so it's connected using 802.11n on 2.4GHz with 40Hz channel width and not to the 802.11ac on 5.0GHz with 80Hz channel width.

It becomes worse when you start moving away from the access points. The iPhone Xs and Xs Max drops the signal quality and strength much more rapidly than any other device which is being confirmed by the UniFi-controller.

It's not that much of a problem as we have stellar coverage at home with 2x UniFi AC HD access points. But at work for instance with a single Aerohive Access Point I notice that my iPhone Xs Max keeps dropping the connection when moving towards the toilet and coffee area of the work space. My iPhone X would lose connection when entering the toilet at times, but my iPhone Xs Max is dropping it consistently.

It's the same for LTE/4G, during my daily commute my iPhone X would sometimes drop connection, especially through tunnels while on the train. But my iPhone Xs Max is dropping it consistently when going through the tunnel, without exception where my iPhone X would do it seldomly. I also notice that it seems to fall back to 3G a lot more compared to the iPhone X.

Aw come on, I just got used to the new orientation of the ".123" button, now they're switching it back? LOL, 1st world problems.
I was extremely annoyed by it. I never got used to it and I’m glad they changed it back.

RamGuy, I'm seeing the same issues with my XS Max and it consistently has weaker signal strength than my other devices all on the new 12.0.1 update. Can you confirm how you're measuring the dBM signal measurements? Are you doing it via an App on iOS or through your Ubiquiti AC?

it makes me wonder how they make decisions like this
isn’t there beta-testing?

another thing that is happening, and also annoying me, is a problem with selecting text in boxes like this on forums like this
I try to select part of theft, but it selects all of it
or it won’t stretch with the little blue dots

The text selection thing is a known xenforo bug. The staff have filed a bug report with them.

No kidding. One of their more bone-headed moves in a while... and that's saying something.
Or just a bug basically.

Quick updates to address the issues.

Updates that support iPhones that are up to 5 years old.

I'm laughing at Android fanboys talking smack at anything Apple does that appears to be a mishap.

I mean, can you imagine buying a Note 9 in 2018 for $1200 and it comes with last years Android OS and won't have the latest one for 3-6 months?

That's ridiculous.

Then after the update, you may... BIG MAY get 1 more update and then that is all she rows. NOTHING ELSE!

Other bug fixes in this update include a reorientation of the "123" number key on the iPad, which was moved in the iOS 12 update and caused anyone with more than one language to keep switching languages when they were just trying to type a number or symbol.

Thanks dude.

I didn’t have to turn ON this option in the past to use a simple car charger.

For some people, that is not an option. when anything bigger that an SE is too big to hold in one hand. I retired my SE just so I could keep a spare for the SO. When you are @ best buy and the SO just about drops a 7 because it doesnt fit right in the hand, no, its NOT time to buy a Xr

These stories always seem a bit dramatic. My 6-year-old runs around everywhere with a 9.7" iPad and manages just fine and my 85lb teenage daughter absolutely loved upgrading from her 6 to the 7 Plus. She'd laugh in my face if I suggested that she switch to an SE.

FWIW I use an SE for work and it feels like a toy at this point; I can't wait to switch it out for an X/XS/Max. The market for 4" screens is incredibly small at this point and they're not coming back.

When will the update come for the calibration of your terrible new oled screens. They are way to warm. Consider this a warning. If it’s not a simple software fix and a hardware fix. Apple needs to acknowledge it. I paid way to much for this promoted as superior display to end up as being the worst garbage with a yellow tint to the display. I’m gathering thousands of other complaintants and will bring class action. I want my money back on the iPhone X right now. If your listening Apple today is day 17 of this garbage iPhone X’s Max. If you want my mouth to shut then you need to reach out to me with a full refund and opportunity to get my iPhone X back. Apple you need to be consistent in your product. Especially the displays. And especially when your promoting as the best ever. It’s a lie and you know it. So now I’ll be expecting the phone call from that ******** named John in your Texas office.
Simmer down Francis.. Not everyone agrees with your assessment of Apples oled screens.. If you aren’t happy with the phone return or sell it and buy something that makes you happy.

Incase there is a tiny chip, inside of a 5 year old car charger, installed by a Chinese spy agency?
Got it! ;)

Excellent. I haven't had much trouble on 12.0 but I do welcome the moving back the position of the number key on the iPad keyboard. That was incredibly frustrating and I was never going to get used to it! I've been using iPhones and iPads since they were first released.

Edit: Solid quick update on three devices (7 Plus, 6, iPad Air 1). No problems. Update with confidence!

Yeah you're 100% wrong. Apple's displays are well calibrated, they match D65 well. They are supposed to be this warm.

The problem is you buy cheap PC monitors which are set ridiculously cool, so they appear to pop out in the fluorescent lighting of big-box retailers.

I had the same surprise after I started calibrating my desktop monitors.

Yep this is true. You can see how well calibrated they are by playing the same video on your iPhone or Mac and on your TV at the same time through airplay mirroring or just loading something from youtube on both devices. The color accuracy, contrast and black levels will always be superior unless you have a high-end >$2k TV that is ISF calibrated.

While most people think cool colors just have more pop and look better, when you compare a properly calibrated device to this sort of "torch mode," you can clearly see that the calibrated device simply looks much more realistic and shows much more detail especially in darker scenes.
