cmaier, I believe dmylrea is spot on... iOS prevents developers from getting direct access to hardware specific metrics / readings. While there are many Network Tools / Apps that measure ping times, packet latency and throughput to a dedicated endpoint like Ookla's Speedtest servers, there are no Apps that actually show the Strength of the Wifi signal (usually measured in dBm) from your iOS device to your home router / access point, etc. The closest App that I've found for measuring anything useful and benchmarking local wifi connectivity is "Wi-Fi SweetSpots".

I've installed 12.0.1 on XS Max and my 5Ghz signal strength continues to be weaker than my older iPad Mini 4 and iPhone 7 Plus both running this latest iOS release. Using Wi-Fi SweetSpots app, it's easy to see how the local throughput to your router (not to the internet) is inconsistent and tends to fluctuate more when comparing to older devices on the Qualcomm chips.
I am so glad I have not bought the XS Max yet. (still sporting my 7+). I am waiting for "you are holding it wrong" to start.

As for this release, I am hoping it fixes the "Device not support" message I get when I just plug my phone in a charger, (non-apple cable) that never had this problem before iOS 12.

Apple's AirPort Utility app has a Wi-Fi scanner that shows signal
strength...

This website continues undaunted to put old videos when they talk about updates. We are talking about iOS 12.0.1 and they put a video related to iOS 12.0.0 with the only unpleasant talking cadence guy they have. I wasted again my time watching this useless video, and I will never do it anymore. What a pity! they make very nice and interesting articles but they ruin everything with videos.
Fortunately, I found this guy on youtube that regularly publishes a detailed video about any update.
Thank God for making hardworking guys too!

Thorough review! You kinda always can expect that with maturity :)

That’s what I asked myself too. None of us Apple People would go to an Android forum and bash the products, at least I‘m not aware of it. And i don’t care about any Android devices at all.
I just think that those haters are too broke to get themselves Apple products and they try to compensate that with showing hate.

I know that the camera switching sucks in iOS12 on FaceTime but why „a fix“ cause this was made by Apple on purpose and it ain’t a bug.
The keyboard thingy was a bug? I actually thought it was a conscious design choice too (in spite of being labeled as a bug).

When will the update come for the calibration of your terrible new oled screens. They are way to warm. Consider this a warning. If it’s not a simple software fix and a hardware fix. Apple needs to acknowledge it. I paid way to much for this promoted as superior display to end up as being the worst garbage with a yellow tint to the display. I’m gathering thousands of other complaintants and will bring class action. I want my money back on the iPhone X right now. If your listening Apple today is day 17 of this garbage iPhone X’s Max. If you want my mouth to shut then you need to reach out to me with a full refund and opportunity to get my iPhone X back. Apple you need to be consistent in your product. Especially the displays. And especially when your promoting as the best ever. It’s a lie and you know it. So now I’ll be expecting the phone call from that ******** named John in your Texas office.

If you think you'll get any attention from Apple on these forums, well, you have a lot to learn.

The screens are great. If you don't like it, return the phone. (Apple will take it back if you're capable of being decent when talking to them.)

Fixed all the issues I had been experiencing with charging etc.
No other issues that currently concern me TBH...........

Apple never used Qualcomm for Wi-Fi, it was genrally Broadcom or a similar. The iPhone 6s has a Universal Scientific Industrial 339S00043 Wi-Fi Module which had the Broadcom® BCM43362 wifi chip. iPhone X had a Apple/Murata bluetooth and Wi-Fi module. Once again no Qualcomm or Intel in the house. Qualcomm and Intel are used only for the cellular side of things.

No fix for camera smoothing

I wouldn't call it a top priority like the bugs about wi-fi and charging.
They may tune the algorithm for the selfie camera differently in one of the next betas, but I think they can take their time and come up with a good solution, no need to rush on this one

I did that last week on iOS 12, but not now after the update. I really would hate to do it again for nothing. Let me know how it goes!

12.0.1 is an improvement on my iPhone SE.
On 12.0 I couldn't calibrate the battery - it would shutdown at 5% or 7%, then turn back on showing 13%.
Never had battery issues on iOS 11.
Now I've been able to fully drain the battery down to 1%. Jury is still out on actual battery life though - testing that today.

Any one experiencing a glitch where the settings app says it has an update when it does not, after you install the update?

This update also fixed another bug that I ran into after updating to 12 on my iPad Pro. Videos were starting muted and the only way to get audio was to move the slider to the end of the video and wait for the refresh icon to show and press it. Only then could I hear audio.

A shame they didn’ t fix 1080p24 playback that stutters when auto brightness kicks in on YouTube , ITunes and Netflix .

Just try it, move around while playing 1080p24, forcing auto brightness to kick in due to changing environment lighting. It stutters and gets very jerky.
I know it, you know it. The question is, why they don't know it.

Maybe because with all the bugs that they may know of stuttering video playback when you walk around in changing light conditions isn't a showstopper so is going to be fixed further down the line, just a thought. Also maybe turning off auto brightness mitigates it for now?

You can’t just hold and drag apps where you want them now ?? I had to click on settings or nothing beneficial would happpen was it like that previously

I can, you just press on the app till it shakes and then move it around like all other iPhones.
