I updated my ATV4, restarted it, and my phone, and the remote app still doesn't work. :/

A new version of the Remote app (4.2.3) was also just released this afternoon as well.

Just a friendly tip: don't try to access the app switcher by force touching the side of the screen when using the remote app or you will pause playback. I keep forgetting

Don't know if it's related, but did you update your ios?
It shouldn't matter:
The Remote iOS app does not require updating to work with the fourth-generation Apple TV, but the set-top box does require tvOS 9.1 to be installed. Today's iOS 9.2 update is also not required and we have confirmed that the Remote app works with iOS devices running earlier versions of iOS 9.

This is not working for me. Home sharing is on Apple TV 4, iPhone, and MacBook Pro. All have the latest software updates installed. I have restarted all of my devices and router but still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks.

Is Wi-Fi on? Is the app not discovering both the phone and the tv?

having issues too, thought it was user error

Are you embarrassed about the smart battery case? I'm sure Apple isn't, because I can virtually guarantee that they have already sold in excess of $1,000,000 worth today. Did you make a million dollars today?

Honeywell make a lot of money from thermostat sales. That fact doesn't make the thermostats look any prettier, most people buy thermostats out of necessity.

Apple might be making a lot of money from the smart battery case... Again, that fact doesn't make the product any prettier and I think it's safe to say (based on the feedback I've seen regarding the 6s/6 battery life) that heavy users are buying this product out of necessity.

And the pattern emerges: the sales of a product don't make things prettier or somehow justify a product's existence. If Apple made us pay for those iPhone 4 bumpers many years ago (remember antennagate?), they would have made millions. Would that have made the bumpers pretty (subjective, I didn't like them)? Not for me it didn't. In fact many of my friends didn't like using cases either. I think one thing's for certain, handing out or asking people to buy an optional accessory to use something to its full potential is ridiculous.

The funny part is, by providing me with the sales information ("excess of $1,000,000 worth today.") you've essentially proven the point: at least 10,000 people have purchased a battery case because they're unhappy with their battery life.

I rest my case, that's what I think about this situation anyway and I could be wrong. There's no way to verify any information about this product because not enough people have commented on it yet. Besides, there's no point trying to argue with someone that hasn't presented an argument.

Troll alert. In case anyone wanted to have a great example of a troll, save this one from Ashf0rd

I heard something about the antonym for "troll" on MacRumors is "apple apologist." People that disagree with your philosophy aren't automatically trolls. Not everything is a case of 'us vs. them.' I buy Apple products just like you do (I think); I'm allowed to express my opinion on something regardless of how laconic my comment may be.

I'm not sure why the one line of letters is so bothersome to some people... it makes complete sense with a trackpad and accelerated scrolling.

It's a hell of a lot faster than the old way... click up, click up, click up, click right, click right... Oops, click left... Etc.

Oftentimes, it's even faster than picking up my iPhone and launching the remote app to use the virtual keyboard.

That said, I still appreciate the remote app... especially for Apple Watch.

You know... I actually found the old way a tad faster, probably because I just got used to it in the end and typing felt a bit like muscle memory.

Me too. The amount of times I pick up the remote and it goes fast forward crazy.
Make that at least three, uh four, who still prefer the old metal remote. The only thing that is good about the new remote is Siri and even that doesn't do very much (right now). In my hands (literally), the touch surface on the new remote is almost a "basket case," often unresponsive, jumpy, hard to control. However, I haven't yet installed the new release of the tvOS so maybe they have made some improvements.

Of course, the new remote has more potential for game play, but I think I would have preferred a more basic or simple design for the standard remote on the ATV4 which could still have allowed for some gameplay. Then Apple could have introduced a better gamepad for people who really wanted to get serious about playing games on the new ATV. The only difficulty in taking that path is that a more basic remote MIGHT have restricted the kind of games that could be played, and obviously that would have gone against the plans of Apple (since they insist that all games must be able to be played with the Siri remote). I don't know, maybe a smarter or better design could have enabled full gameplay while still reducing the seeming awkwardness of the current Siri remote. I guess I'm saying that they should have or could have done better.

Both the Apple TV 4 and my iPhone 6s Plus are on the same Wi-Fi network. It just sits on the Remote App screen spinning. I have the pairing code on my phone, but nothing happens.

Hmm, I don't recall needing to enter a pairing code. I just opened the app and the Apple tv was there. Interesting

I'd be trying to switch off home sharing and then re-enable, then restarting my router, then removing the network settings from the devices and resetting. After that, I'd probably just cry :D

Are you able to browse your Home Sharing library through the AppleTV? Or just control the current-playing track?

So with the recent update to the Apple Remote App, I still cannot control iTunes Radio / Apple Music back on my central media iMac? My main computer serves as my Airplay hub where I can then send music to my 4 Airplay receivers/ speakers throughout the house. For as much as Apple touts Music savvyness, they sure can't get this stuff right. Come on guys!

I have full functionality and can browse my home share library as well as use the remote app to control atv4. I wasn't the one encountering issues, I was comparing my remote app setup experience to help diagnose his problem.

Unless Apple has broken this too, I don't even have to have a network connected to connect to my TV 3 from my iPhone 5S. My iPhone 5S is currently not connected to any wifi network, LTE only and I'm controlling my TV 3 just fine.

The remote app is working but has limited functionality for the new AppleTV. Connecting to an old ATV there is a link in the bottom left corner to access the library of the device, including iTunes content, computers for home sharing content and searching. Sadly this function is unavailable on the new device using the same version of the remote app, so no search option for home sharing content. Fortunately the remote app works perfectly with Plex so searching using a virtual keyboard in the remote app works.
