I guess the return rate and the poor reviews made Apple rethink their decision of forcing people to use only the Siri remote (which doesn't have Siri in most countries in the world...).

So what is the return rate? Where did you get this data? Oh, let me guess...you are speculating based on the number of digruntled cry babies that flood to Internet forums when something doesn't float their boat? good stuff...

So i normally do not call for some one head on a spike. I however must say we need the head of who ever thought it was ok to ship the apple tv with out the remote app workings head on a spike. I sold mine with in a day of ownership due to the text entry mess. I am now refusing to buy one just out of spite.

That's what the Remote App is for! That's why we're all happy that they made the ATV4 compatible with the Remote App today! Just type in your updated Wifi password on the keyboard on the Remote App.
There's just a little problem: The Remote app doesn't work without an established Wifi connection. A Bluetooth keyboard would, but for some stupid reason they dropped support for it in the ATV4.

Is it just me, or does it not work 100%? I added the new device to the app on both my iPhone and iPad, but I can't see my iTunes cloud library on either device, nor can I skip songs.

Siri works fine from the new remote.

Edit: So far it's a mess. Home Sharing from the iPad doesn't pull in Apple Music tracks. And it doesn't seem to work at all on my phone. I'm fully willing to admit it's something wonky with my setup... But... Anyone else having issues?

I am glad to see this update and am thrilled with the keyboard entry. I do have two questions though:

1. Anyone find a way to launch the multitask option via the remote app? ( say to force quit an app for instance).

2. Has anybody found a use for the 'Option' button yet? It also seems that if you press and drag the Option button it stays faded a opposed to just pressing it which yields a toggle of faded/standard. What exactly does this feature do?

what mess? you just used the touch swiper. it accelerates as you swipe so you can get pretty speedy with it. not a big deal at all, and i was done with it after 5 minutes of set up. then i moved on with my life and enjoyed the device.
I haven't used the new Apple TV remote but if it's anything like the last version (and it looks like it is) non-alphabetical keyboards for Asian and other languages are only available in the Remote app, which makes the standard remote completely useless.

Well that will teach Apple a lesson.

It's not anything like the old one nor does it look like it is.

I didn't even realize the app wasn't supported. Glad it got support before I get mine. I use the remote app all the time because I can never find such a tiny remote. I also use the remote on my Apple Watch all the time—it's a bundled default app! Why would they release a new Apple TV that is incompatible with the Remote app on the new Apple Watch? Defies logic…at least it's fixed. Now it just needs Siri input. If my iPhone or Watch is on the same network, I should be able to use voice commands to work the TV. Like "Hey Siri, pause TV" or "Hey Siri, what did she say?" from my watch. Probably in iOS 10/Watch OS 3.

Unfortunately, they did not update the Remote App. This means that the instructions for pairing the remote with your Apple TV 4 are not correct.

I'm not able to get the remote app to work on either my iPhone 6 Plus or my iPad Mini 3, both running iOS 9.2. The iPhone shows just my background with a white bar at the bottom. The iPad shows an empty, old-looking iTunes window.

This is frustrating.

Edit: Restarting my devices worked. However, I only really find the app useful on the watch. The other devices... meh. Too simple and old-timy looking.

Also not working for me either, sigh.

I made sure I'm logged into home sharing and also went to pair app from the ATV4 menu as well, but it won't pair.

Siri on the new remote for the new Apple TV is great, but otherwise I think that remote is the worst piece of Apple engineering I've ever seen from that company.

What do we need to have all these loonies complaining all the time. Why don't they get a life and move on.

New Apple TV works 100% I've never had a problem with any of Apples TV's in 5 years.

I'm sure they wanted to kill off the Remote app as it's a horrible user experience. It's a technical workaround to achieve something trivial, not an elegant Apple-like solution in any sense. But because of the many negative comments, they luckily backtracked.However, I would prefer an iOS app worthy of 2015;

Wow thanks. You made Apple blink.
