This will make lots of Apple TV4 users happy!

I was getting kinda sick of hearing about no remote app and the horrible text entry with one line of letters.

I'm not sure why the one line of letters is so bothersome to some people... it makes complete sense with a trackpad and accelerated scrolling.

It's a hell of a lot faster than the old way... click up, click up, click up, click right, click right... Oops, click left... Etc.

Oftentimes, it's even faster than picking up my iPhone and launching the remote app to use the virtual keyboard.

That said, I still appreciate the remote app... especially for Apple Watch.

So i normally do not call for some one head on a spike. I however must say we need the head of who ever thought it was ok to ship the apple tv with out the remote app workings head on a spike. I sold mine with in a day of ownership due to the text entry mess. I am now refusing to buy one just out of spite.

Cool story, bro! I'm sure Apple will be alright without your $150...

I don't know either... I just recall hearing about it from many people on multiple podcasts and articles.

Not sure if it's true... but I heard a myth that there was one guy who is in charge of the Remote App... and he was busy doing other things.

Or something like that.

Sigh. Did you even read the comment? This only works during the initial setup, but you cannot use it to change the password later, which is what I explicitly wrote.
That's what the Remote App is for! That's why we're all happy that they made the ATV4 compatible with the Remote App today! Just type in your updated Wifi password on the keyboard on the Remote App.

Well I guess this makes up for the embarrassment that is the Smart Battery Case.

Are you embarrassed about the smart battery case? I'm sure Apple isn't, because I can virtually guarantee that they have already sold in excess of $1,000,000 worth today. Did you make a million dollars today?

Wow. You tossed away all of that amazing technology for a small annoyance that doesn't even come into play for 95% of the interaction you have with the device? And now you're going to deny yourself the pleasure of the device because you feel like you have something to prove to the richest company in the world?

Seems like a self-loathing and childish response to me...

I feel like the whole thing was a cover-up to make people buy the $70 remote in case they lose the original one! If you don't play games and lose it, it's not so crucial with the app.

So the richest company in the world is going to lose the goodwill of a large segment of their user base in order to make an extra few thousand dollars on tens of millions of dollars in sales for the Apple TV?

Is the tinfoil getting a little tight?

I put in my password the scrolly way one time when I first got the Gen. 4 and haven't had to think about it since. Not sure
why people are changing passwords so much but, I'm glad that they'll be able to move on!

Thank you! Some people just need attention, and the only way they can see themselves getting it is to complain about something that is trivial.

I vote with my wallet. I have an apple tv 3. I am not missing out on much of anything. I also have a ps3 soon to be ps4. I was hopping the ATV4 would blow me away and that little annoyance really did kill me. 95% of your user experience for me is more like 50% of my user experience. So it was a huge deal for my use case.

Not working for me. I have the Apple TV 4, an iMac running latest el capitain, iPhone 6s and an iPad Air 2. All connected to the same network. iTunes home sharing turned on on the iMac and both iPad and iPhone remote apps added as supported remotes via the four digit pin entry.

Working great for remote control of music from iOS as well as AirPlay. No problem there.

Big issue with not being able to turn on home sharing in the remote app settings. When I push the slider across and login, with the correct Apple ID and password, it reports that the Apple ID or password are incorrect, even though I now that they are correctly entered.

I have rebooted router, all devices, nada.

Any ideas anyone? I'd love to be able to use the remote app to control the Apple TV but so far no good.

Keyboard is much better than swiping for doing searches in YouTube. Very happy to have the Remote App back in action. I fail to see why anyone would be happy being stuck with JUST the ATV4 remote compared to having the choice to use it or a keyboard.

You really didn't give it a chance, then. The ATV4 is light years ahead of ATV3, and you're missing out on plenty. If you had kept it for more than a day you would have found that Siri does so much for you that you would use typing a minuscule amount. And that gets better all the time (with today's update, for instance). Prior to ATV4 I was finding that I used my ATV for renting movies from iTunes, and watching the occasional Netflix movie. Now I use it every day. Just letting the screensaver run while listening to music is worth the price of admission. We find ourselves having entire conversations about the screensaver scenes.

3 questions for any takers...

1. Does the update fix the ethernet connection continually dropping out forcing reboot of apple tv and entire network?

2. Does the update fix the bug where the first 5 seconds of all video content played is silent until the audio decides to turn itself on?

3. Does the update allow persons outside the US to install the Trailers app?

Release a half bake product remove a feature and i am suppose to be aww shucks well least we have it now. I am holding them to the high standard they set for them selves. The person who made that call should no longer get to make calls plain and simple. They compromised a user experience on a brand new product out of the box in favor of well we are still wondering that part. This is apple we do not move backwards cause some people could not get there ducks in a row. This is a feature that should have been shipped day one. I would have fallen in love with the little box had i been able to search youtube with out hunting and pecking. I tried for a few hours gave up and sold it promptly the next morning. I normally accept there will be bugs in anything new but to take away the core input device and not even include dictation that was a low blow.

This a quite a childish response...

As posted in another thread, buying everyone of Apple's hardware products does not automatically make you the biggest Apple fan ever. You need to also love entering password with upper and lower cases plus numbers arranged in a horizontal line one by one with Siri Remote (and to love Apple maps).

I am constantly amazed by how far people can go for defending apparently bad designs by Apple.

I guess the return rate and the poor reviews made Apple rethink their decision of forcing people to use only the Siri remote (which doesn't have Siri in most countries in the world...).

1. I never had this problem. Sounds like a network issue. My wifi was slower than other devices, but no dropping. I changed to Ethernet and it is flawless running at 70-80.

2. Never had this problem. Had Dolby decoding issues and spent a lot of time on apple and A/V forums discussing ATV4 and a/v, but never heard of anyone having this issue. Sounds like one of my Amos that doesn't engage until it gets a signal....highly doubt this is a "bug" with the tvOS software.

3. Sorry, I live in the US. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Anyone who's used it. Does it control the volume? They set the stage with the way the new tv controls the volume in the software to pull this off...[/QUOTE

no its not software on the apple tv it actually controls the attached hardware if supported
