I don't know what the mechanics were behind each game that they removed, but I do think if you can play as the confederates in a game then it's in poor taste, to put it mildly.

Nope, I grew up in a llw crime area

Wrong. I grew up in a town with a very low crime rate. Rainbows are actually tolerated much more than southern flags. Fly that confederate flag on your car and we'll see how long it goes before it's keyed.

I'm not saying literally you.... I'm saying in American you can get your **** hate crimed regardless if it's a confederate flag, gay rainbow, etc.

I'm glad you had a safe gay part of town.

You are also assuming I am running around with a confederate flag.... I don't have any confederate flags... except on my toy General Lee Car. Other then that.. I don't... so STOP assuming... STOP judging.

I see nothing wrong with historical war games that feature flags from that war. It's a completely different context than a flag used in conjunction with racist propaganda. Apple has really gone too far with this.

This is spiraling out of control. It's one thing to remove the flag from the state capitols and another to remove any trace of it anywhere

If this is indeed true, then it is the most moronic response to a (non)issue. If removing the Dukes of Hazard General Lee toys from the shelves because of the roof decal wasn't enough, this just takes the cake.

I'm sick and tired of this PC crap.
It's easy to get tired of it but if you were someone who was directly affected by the racism then you might feel differently. At the end of the day there is nothing stopping you from creating your own platform or supporting platforms that cater to your need for confederate symbols strewn about.

This is like taking the swastika out of a WWII Game. It's about the history. As wargamer myself, this is disappointing. How else will historical games portray the confederacy? If it's in the historical context, what is there to be offended about?

Actually, the Swastika is not allowed in Germany at all from what I can gather. I remember selling WWII Warbird models in our shop and some didn't have the Swastika on it for sale in Europe, even the US Warbirds that had used it as kill markings by the cockpit.

Yes it is overboard though, these symbols should be used in the context of education and history, not for modern expression.

The German swastika is the symobl of the sun used in wiccan and other religions like that. They took a postive symbol and made it bad. So, why can't it happen in revers. Like I said symbols change.

Symbols can change naturally, but it takes a long time. It's not something you can force.

In other words, I can't take something that was a symbol of active hate one day, then say "oh, it's my heritage" the next, and expect those who were once oppressed under it to accept its new meaning.

That is a weird thing to do. I read somewhere that very recently Amazon removed all Confederate flags they offered. I never really thought about that flag as being this offensive. Especially in a context like those games I can't really see that it's explicitly trying to offending anyone.
That's always the case when you aren't the among the types of people who was aggrieved and in the wake of what happened in NC it's appropriate. I'm not sure why people want to cling to symbols of hate for a significant number of the population here in the US.

Wow! this is just insane! Maybe we should just stop teaching about it too... We've gone into full idiot mode and everyone is just piling on.

No one has proposed not teaching about it....but get out your tin foil. Secondly, the confederates launched the largest attack on the US government in history....all because they wanted to keep black people as slaves which they later tried to claim slavery was a "states rights" issue to put the largest attack against the US government in a better light. :/

Yes, that's right, Apple ....
Remove ALL content from the App Store/iBooks/iTunes that isn't all sweetness & light ....
Tim, you stepped over the line on this one.
The longer you wait to repeal this asinine decision, the more face you lose.

I don't think he cares TBQH. If you need your confederate games and paraphernalia you create your own platform to put it on.

This is not cool. I'm a jewish New Yorker, but this all is getting out of hand and smacks of censorship. Apparently the Govt has been unlawfully going around to retailers and companies trying to pull anything with a confederate flag. this is a joke and unamerican. Freedom of speech and such. This is pretty much thought control and not acceptable. Reality is confederate flag is just a flag, and there are plenty of decent people who respect it too without being racists and who attack people. and i live in California. Just am a lawyer and familiar with US Constitution.

So as "a lawyer" you recognize the difference between a private, non-governmental entity choosing to not sell something because they don't support its direct or implicit message and "censorship", right?

As a "Jewish New Yorker" do you have the same feelings if the issue were people choosing to stop selling the Nazi swastika flag?

Pretending there is a benign motive behind the embrace of the Dixie Cross is a serious part of the problem. I believe people when they say THEY as individuals only meant it to be "pro-Southern" - but that is simply not sufficient once you understand what the symbol REALLY means in the context that it was appropriated for. It is NOT a tertiary symbol of the Confederate military, it is the banner of racists, segregationists and lynch mobs. Outside of a strictly historic context, which is highly limited based on the facts of history, it has no place and needs to be discouraged as a common symbol of "Southern Pride".
