RIP user reviews and ratings
If you really think about it, user reviews and ratings have no real value to begin with because they are based on opinion. The same goes for likes and dislikes. Who exactly writes those user reviews and ratings? Are their likes and needs identical to mine? Was their review or rating skewed because they just came out of a bad relationship and now they are mad at the world? Did they have a grudge against one or more of the actors because they didn’t like the way the script was written? Were those people paid to write their review/rating? Did they register more than one account in an attempt to sway public opinion with their reviews and ratings?

It is OK to have an opinion, but expecting other people to value that opinion is a lesson in futility.

With the launch of iOS 17.2 and iPadOS 17.2, Apple made a server side change that removes the option to purchase and access TV shows and movies from the iTunes Store app.
Attempting to access the TV Shows and Movies sections in the app directs users to the Apple TV app instead. "iTunes Movies and Your Purchases Have Moved," reads the app's message. "You can buy or rent movies and find your purchases in the Apple TV app."

During the beta testing process, the iTunes Store app continued to offer access to TV shows and movies, so this is a change that Apple made to its servers.
That means the older iTunes Store method is EOL. As reflected in tvOS during this beta, the removal of the iTunes TV and iTunes movie apps were EOL. I did comment that Apple TV library feature has a lot to desire with, it can't show anyone's very large collection of TV/Movies content. So its needs work with navigation and search enhancements. TV has no genres usage compared to movies. Hopefully we see more Apple TV app changes in 17.3 and associated OS's with the Apple TV app.

So no more wishlist? COOL, APPLE. Not that the wishlist was even that good, since it didn’t let you know if a movie went on sale. No wishlist within the TV app.
This is what I was afraid of. I screenshotted my wishlist the other night anticipating Apple breaking that function. It's currently at like 40+ titles so this really screws me over.

It doesn't matter I just killed my subscription.
$6.99 to $9.99 increase. I'll pass.
I'll wait until the stuff I want is all available and subscribe for a couple of months, then kill it again.

Bye AppleTV.

Are you posting in the right place? This is about the movie and tv buttons directing to the Apple TV app. This has nothing to do with any subscription service.

cant the same be said about rotten tomatoes? following your logic, should Apple then just remove all App Store, ratings, map ratings, integration with Yelp, etc? i get the point you’re trying to make, i just don’t buy it. Ratings and reviews are helpful data points…but it’s a data point not the only data point

i found the user reviews and aggregating rating more aligned to what i ultimately thought of the movie vs the rotten tomato score

What annoys me with this is that if a film is available on a streaming service, that’s what you will see first in the TV app. So you won’t necessarily be able to see the quality of the movie (4K, HD, SD) before buying.

Unless they make changes to the TV all like quality, gifting and wish lists, this is truly a horrible update.

It wouldn’t take too much for me to grab 100 people and pay them to write a positive review for a movie they have never watched. I suppose I could do this myself if I were to find a way to obtain 100 different email addresses, I could even randomly space the reviews as to not arouse suspicion. Those 100 ratings are now data points.. but how reliable are those data points?

My point is that wishful thinking and power of suggestion are quite powerful, and often override common sense and logic.

Frankly, I'd be pretty pissed off by this if I ran a movie studio.

The (in comparison) agnostic storefront is now BURIED in a competitor's subscription app, which will very likely cause confusion and a reduction in sales.

It's so bizarre how they seem to be racing to do this by end of year. IF you insist on doing this, just iron out the DOZENS of issues and roll it out for iOS/tvOS 18.

I wish there were just an easy way to see all box sets. And let us sort them by popularity or on sale items or new additions or genre etc. All I see now is a section for a random selection of titles that are “trending” or whatever.

Currently you cannot buy entire shows in the Apple TV app - only seasons. This screws customers out of the best deals for long running multi-season shows.

After checking a new install, 17.2 FINALLY ADDS the option to buy entire shows in the TV app! It puts these under a new 'Box Set' section for shows that have "The Complete Series" option. justanthonylee is correct!
That was my beef with the TV app over going into the iTunes Store app. I accidentally bought a few seasons of a show in the TV app before it dawned on me that I should be using the iTunes Store app. Apple owes me about $60 bucks from those purchased seasons, but I digress.

I'm actually surprised that the iTunes Store is still around. It seems redundant now, a whopping 22 years after it was introduced. I don't understand why, when I'm in Apple Music on my Mac, there's a choice to purchase music in the iTunes Store. It's as if they're two separate entities run by two different companies.

Could not agree more! Reviews became popularity contests in recent years. Rather than pure objective comments, all you get is either spoilers, or a rant about the good/bad that one particular person found. On many occasions I have stumbled across a movie or TV show that I avoided because of bad reviews, only to find it was actually perfect in my taste. Even the tomato meter is a bit subjective in this way. There are plenty of music artists that get 5-star ratings to which I'd rather listen to silverware being tossed into a sink!

Honestly it's a mess. Something as simple as seeing the boxset price of a show seems like such a pain. I was trying to find the price for Modern Family, it just gives you each individual season which cost more, the same with The Goldbergs. In contrast Vudu had the series Modern Family on sale not long ago. Just so counter intuitive.
