I share the sentiment for all the concerns expressed, however, keep in mind this move is all about a renewed focus on the TV app.

AppleTV+ is continuing to ramp up with some of the highest quality content - basically the new HBO.

Live sports is ramping up with MLS, MLB, etc. Sad they missed out on NFL due to the global rights issue but as a YT TV Sunday Ticket subscriber this year, I can firmly say I won’t be renewing next year. Red Zone is better value for 99% of people, and that’s not locked to one provider.

And now, we’ll be making all of our movies/show purchases on TV app.

The stage is set for…..you guessed it…Live TV! YouTube TV needs the competition, and Apple is making the prerequisite moves.

The current small issues with TV app as it pertains to sunsetting the Movies and TV Shows apps will be worked out soon in subsequent updates.

Good to have all options under Apple TV app. Everything together at one place.

Ever since I was bitten by the library bug, I tried contacting MacRumors and 9to5Mac to try and give it some more attention in the hope it'd be fixed. Apple's engineering department just told me to use the iTunes apps...

The fix similarly didn't get any press either, but it was a VERY welcome surprise to me when I downloaded tvOS 17.1 and everything appeared. :)
This library bug has plagued me for years and is Terrifying.
I’m at 5,500+ movies and also 500+ unique tv shows.
I am on my umpteenth support case to Apple and they always go stale with no resolution.
I’m so scared all my purchases will just vanish since the Library in the TV app does absolutely nothing for me in iOS or iPadOS or MacOS.

I wish I could do something in light of Apple’s inaction to fix the bug for me. I am on 17.1.1, for example, on my iPhone. No library still.

My only consistent hope has been successfully using the iTunes movies and tv shows apps and even then, only on the Apple TV box.

what about the wish list option? that was the only reason I hated using the tv app to buy from.

Maybe I’m not understanding it correct, but the new UI has the channels/apps at the bottom of the main menu that presumably are integrated with Apple TV. If that is the case, then why when I go to PBS Kids it has all the shows, nicely laid out, but opening an episode to play wants me to buy the episode or open it on Amazon Prime? I have the PBS Kids tv app, their interface stinks and yet I’m still forced to use it because Apple says that I must pay to view.

I do not understand how this is better. If it’s supposed to be like this for some way it just doesn’t make sense.

You need to scroll down a bit further to How To Watch and select your preferred option.

It’s absolutely pointless to have the channels if when selecting something that particular channel isn’t the priority.

Is there any reason to keep the iTunes Store app anymore or should we just delete it now?

Big step back in UI usage. Oh well, but it'll probably cut down on how much I buy. I spend way to much on it anyway.

iTunes music is DRM free
Their movies and TV shows aren't. Unfortunately. If they ever turn off the authorization servers, my collection is about worth the cost of the individual bits on disk. (nothing in other words) I would be so ticked off I would never buy anything Apple ever again.

I wonder how long until Apple removes the non-functional standalone iTunes TV and iTunes Movies apps in tvOS. I’m surprised it wasn’t yesterday once tvOS 17.2 was released.

Could you imagine the uproar caused if they just removed them without telling people it’s all in the tv app now.
It might be ok for those us of who have followed what’s going on with the betas, but not everyone does so might come as a bit of a shock if they’re suddenly just gone.

Question: how can you tell what format the content comes in? As soon as the ‘open/play’ button is there you can no longer see if it’s HD, 4K, Atmos etc? Only the quality of the streaming version.
This is my issue/question as well. I am unable to tell what movies are available in 4K anymore...

So parts of the re-design I can work with.... but within AppleTV+ app, within either the Movies or TV Shows portions, I am only seeing the top rated Movies/TV Shows.... Did Apple forget to add a link for all Movies/TV Shows available to Browse Thru? Am I missing this??

Good point I can see no way to view all movies. Surely they will reduce sales on iTunes if this keeps up?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, use CheapCharts.
Install the app and you’ll get notified every time there’s a price drop.
