"Apple now offering 29.97Hz and 59.94Hz refresh rates instead of 30Hz/60Hz"
What is the reason for this?

I don't know why Apple didn't make the Siri Remote have just one button -- to activate Siri and give a command. Maybe they were worried people wouldn't want to give up the familiar play and pause buttons.

Hey Siri, pause the video.
One sec...
I’m sorry, I can’t buy that video in the iTunes Store.

Just half an hour ago I asked Siri to play my recently added music on Apple Music. She answered me she can’t find it. Siri is a joke.

NTSC is actually 29.97 Hz at "30fps" and 59.94 Hz at "60fps".

It's an artifact of the way color was incorporated into the American television standard while maintaining backward compatibility with black-and-white sets and broadcasts. Many made-for-TV recordings are actually captured at 29.97 because it is what was the standard NTSC frame rate, and this would enable Apple TV to negotiate that frame rate with a capable TV.

A friend just bought a 65" OLED LG TV and came with a magic remote. After trying it, makes my ATV seem pathetic.

I´m on ATV4 and if there's no refresh of the ATV soon I'm gonna have to buy the ATV4K even if that one only is the newest one for a small while. I wanna be able to watch 4K media.....

Spatial audio, please, then I’ll definitely upgrade

Same. Instabuy. It’s irksome my Airpods Max sit there, brilliantly capable of it.

Otherwise, I’m still happy with the current ATV. The remote ain’t great, but not nearly as terrible as people make out IF you put it in a rubber case (although the very concept of a case for a remote is in itself laughable, reminding me of those odd people who keep their furniture in it’s wrapper).

I hope they release a new Apple TV soon. I don't even need one; I'm completely happy with my ATV 4K. But releasing new hardware would be Apple showing they don't intend to abandon the platform, which has been a fear of mine recently.

I don't want to use SmartTV features. I just don't trust TV makers as much as I trust Apple. Though my trust in Apple is flawed; I just figure "Apple already has all my information, so if I'm going to give a bit more, I'd rather it be Apple." Interpret that as you will.

But yeah, I'd love to see a new ATV. I probably won't buy one yet, but it'll give me hope for the future, much like the newer Macbooks give me hope for the Mac platform even though I'm not buying one.

Why do you need more storage? It would just give Apple an excuse to price it even less competitively...

The only thing I’d like is proper codec support or at least a decode to PCM option which the existing hardware can manage (infuse). I see very little reason to buy fresh hardware for that.

Generally when it seems folks are reading too much into these changes, that's exactly the case. Most often, there isn't a new product release right away related to these changes. Plenty of stuff has changed names within iOS and macOS without any new hardware or features. Most often, the name is just changed to better reflect the function and make things clearer for users.

I agree. I genuinely wonder. With the 4th gen Apple TV, I went with the 64GB option. When I upgraded to the 4K, I went with the 32GB. Found I just use apps to view video services and that doesn't take up any more than a couple hundred MB. I suppose if you have a lot of games?

I don't see an issue with the power either. Have no problem streaming 4K content via Plex and other services would a problem. Are folks running into performance issues with games and other things? Seems more a matter of, "We need an update because we want to feel like it's new, even if there's no real benefit."

News finally acknowledges the refresh rate changes but fails to mention the more important support for 23.976 and 24.000.

I have an Apple TV device. I like it. I would like to buy a new more powerful device.

Maybe the new device is better at running high end games, for example from Steam or Microsoft.

Games. Lots of games. Apple Arcade.

And that’s why it would be an upgrade. You don’t need to pay for it if you don’t want it. But me personally: give me a $299 for a 256GB Apple TV 4K please.

so when the Apple TV was first announced it was called iTV but they went with Apple TV for release I think a great part of the reason was the uk channel and company ITV.

Now there TV offering is called Apple TV there's some confusion as to what people are talking about so what if they killed the Apple TV ???

They could release a sound bar with the Apple TV hardware build in called HomePod TV or something also with their Apple TV app being available stand alone do they need hardware anymore ??

Then what do I do with my current Soundbar if that's the case? I'm happy to take more speakers if they can make them work together.

I agree. If I hadn't dropped mega money on a Sonos Arc recently then the idea of an Apple SoundBar with ATV functionality would be great. Now, I'm dreading it. Selfish I know... Whatever happens I just want Apple to update this old hardware FFS.
