They need to ditch the remote in its current form. Have the remote in bed and go to pick it up and wind up hitting the tracking pad and it skips/pauses the movie or accidently bump it same thing.
Luckily I can use my Vizio tv remote to navigate the appletv.

Well I’m sure getting a return on investment by keeping the same product out as long as possible isn’t the reason...🤑

I don't know why Apple didn't make the Siri Remote have just one button -- to activate Siri and give a command. Maybe they were worried people wouldn't want to give up the familiar play and pause buttons.

Ok, this isn’t just a dig at Siri, but whatever voice assistant that I try to use I either have to try multiple times or use a manual remote instead. Especially with songs when asking for them by name I seem to have a lot of problems. I tend to ask for either really old or very unpopular songs.

Until and unless accuracy gets to 99.99% I don’t want to have to depend on the voice assistant, no matter which one. And that ignores when I know the band and not the song name or vice-versa. Give me a physical remote that’s logically laid out and well marked.

Find My Remote will be a welcome feature. For anyone who has struggled with this issue, Amazon sell little silicone sleeves for apple remotes that add just enough bulk to keep it from disappearing into your couch. Happened to me all the time, bought a sleeve and it hasn’t happened since.

Ya why not right?

With the 3rd Gen. Apple TV defunct, Apple is now open to other names other than the "Siri remote". Its not nothing to do with falling in line with old name conversions.. Apple always says that just to make it sound better..

The name change could have come at any other time when the Apple TV 3rr gen was still sold by Apple.

Besides, if its just called "Apple TV Remote" we will start all banging up on Twitter away "It's confusing"

That's what generally happens right ?

Serious question....

Isn't it the general belief that Apple was ready to ship a new Apple TV *last year* and for whatever reason (pandemic wrecking supply chain?) they didn't?

I've always thought that meant that Apple has 10 million ATVs already manufactured and sitting in a warehouse somewhere just ready to go.

Am I crazy?

Im covinced that when it eventually ships it will be the most minimal hardware upgrade possible anyway. I'm talking same box, chip that shipped in an iPad a year ago and a slightly less terrible remote.

I've no idea how it takes a company with their resources so long to ship something like this.

Some of us don’t use Siri. Why would anyone have an always on, Internet connected microphone in their living room, knowing there are people listening in, and not knowing who they are, or how they make extra cash on the side? Completely baffles me, especially in a world where the “leading” democracies are becoming increasingly authoritarian.

I hope they release a new Apple TV soon. I don't even need one; I'm completely happy with my ATV 4K. But releasing new hardware would be Apple showing they don't intend to abandon the platform, which has been a fear of mine recently.

I don't want to use SmartTV features. I just don't trust TV makers as much as I trust Apple. Though my trust in Apple is flawed; I just figure "Apple already has all my information, so if I'm going to give a bit more, I'd rather it be Apple." Interpret that as you will.

But yeah, I'd love to see a new ATV. I probably won't buy one yet, but it'll give me hope for the future, much like the newer Macbooks give me hope for the Mac platform even though I'm not buying one.
Smart TVs suck. They’re the equivalent of an iMac: forcing you to get a new screen to upgrade your CPU when the new OS requires that. But worse: full of abandonware apps. I have a smart TV, but never use any of its smart features.

It won't because that's what LG call their remote which they have trademarked so Apple can't use it due to trademark limitations owned by LG.
I actually got to use one of those remotes this week, it made me miss my Siri Remote
