Is anyone actually listening to live radio? Feels like Apple is betting on the wrong horse. Playlists is where it's at, not live radio stations.

Centralizing the experience only works to some degree. Apple Music is like an iPhone without the App Store. They need to start building a community like Spotify and let users play a more active part on the platform. I assume that ship has sailed, though.

live radio is great company. Curated music and knowing someone is doing it right now, There’s something nice about it.

Apple buying Beats was about as dumb (but surely more costly) as Amazon making an attempt at entering the smartphone with the Fire phone.
They bought beats for the headphone business and used the name to capitalize on apple music. Clearly that didnt work so well with the radio portion so they are rebranding. I think this makes more sense and the Beats brand was more centered around hip-hop and now apple is FINALLY branching out (potentially to take on Sirius) and making radio that appeals to a wider range of people with country and especially 80s, 90s, 00s hits.

Was feeling a bit excited about the 90's hip-hop show by Snoop. But if they are going to play the non-explicit versions of songs (as they have now on  Music Hits) then why do they even bother, ruined songs are not worth the disk space they are stored on.

Who the hell picks these stupid names? I have Apple Music, but this is awful naming. I never bother listening to their radio crap. They should just shut it down. 🙄

I'm listening to the Country station now and they haven't played any songs yet. Also, what is the demographic of this station. It sounds like they are trying to reach the teenage crowd.

I didn’t notice this before but there’s a schedule right next to each radio’s launch tile. This small step really demystifies the perceived randomness of the radio. The entire point of live radio is to follow alongside in real time and having an easily found schedule allows you to plan around it. Don’t like the current program? See what time the next one starts and join in later.

Finally some Country love! Will be giving these news stations a go. Beats 1 wasn’t my cup of tea and I gave up on it after just a few times tuning in.

The schedule is a very welcomed addition with these new stations launched! Apple definitely needs to redesign the live radio interface for ease of radio station access and CarPlay functionality with 10-15 live radio presets. Easily follow shows, keep track of which show you listened/stopped to continue listening, notifications for artist shows you've followed for live vs on demand. So much can be done with this in the future!

I just say with today's additions it is way past time for Apple Music to just completely redesign the interface, and allow us to put curated playlists by Apple Music, into folders for easier organization.

Apple Music Hits sounds like its more my kind of radio. Beats 1 was way too heavy on new music, which I loathe. There's plenty of current artists and new music I enjoy, both newer artists as well as older artists who still put out music, but you're not going to hear it on Beats 1.

However, when it comes to the 80's/90's/early 00's, I absolutely loved pop radio. My favorite FM station plays those hits - a wide-spanning mix of pop/R&B/rap/country/techno and dance... you would hear Phil Collins, Boyz II Men, MC Hammer, Faith Hill, Elton John, Mariah Carey, Tupac one-hit wonders and anything else you can imagine all in one chunk of uninterrupted music.

It’ll be interesting to see how the hits radio appeals to a global audience.

are we going to hear much pj and Duncan (imagine inflicting that on the world).

Completely agree.

Can you view what’s been played so far for each Apple music station, like any other station would show on their website?

I’m guessing that the Beats brand has certain connotations and Because of this, Apple is phasing it out for their radio stations to reach the widest possible audience. Maybe the beats hardware will bite the dust soon, too.

I like the idea of Apple Radio, but I can’t ever find anything that I like on there!

It feels pretty similar to Radio 1 & 2 here in the U.K.

I think you have to have pretty mainstream music tastes to enjoy Apple Radio & I evidently don’t!

Apple today announced that it has renamed its Beats 1 radio station to Apple Music 1. The radio station can be accessed through the Radio tab in the Music app across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices, with no Apple Music subscription required.

Launched in 2015, the newly renamed Apple Music 1 is a 24-hour live radio station broadcast by Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and other DJs out of studios in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and London. Apple describes the station as "the center for pop culture conversation and artist-led programming, and the global destination for artists from around the world to release new music, break news, and speak directly to their fans."

Apple also announced that it is launching two additional live radio stations. "Apple Music Hits" will play popular songs from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, while "Apple Music Country" will spotlight country music.

Yeah they were doing an introduction I believe.

I’m listening to it and an Ozzy Osbourne song has just finished, before that there was an Aerosmith song on.
I’m sorry I thought I was listening to a country radio station. Oh Carrie Underwood is hosting at the minute, that explains it then.

A Radio Station that does not play on a radio?

Like a bicycle without wheels, but only the seat is left...

A sidewalk with only Side left, but without the Walk...

A Beach left only with BE, but the ACH has disappeared...

Or a Beer inside of and empty beer bottle...

We live in an abstract world where Truth is however we want to interpret it...
And I am not really here....but I am
