Finally some escape from the endless Rnb/hiphop/grime.

But Apple Music 1 is a pretty lame name for a radio station.

I love country so will be interesting to listen to their live country channel.

Classical music next please..!

Well Zane Lowe is far from any of those... but I get your point :)

A Radio Station that does not play on a radio?

Like a bicycle without wheels, but only the seat is left...

A sidewalk with only Side left, but without the Walk...

A Beach left only with BE, but the ACH has disappeared...

Or a Beer inside of and empty beer bottle...

We live in an abstract world where Truth is however we want to interpret it...
And I am not really here....but I am

What's next?
Post Office without mail delivery?

Except Radio was originally the signal rather than the device. And WiFi / 4G is a Radiowave :)

Having three radio stations has already changed my habits. If you don’t like what’s playing on Music 1, then switch to Hits or to Country. Sounds obvious but before, if you didn’t like what was on Beats 1, you just turned off the radio and had to pick your own music. I’d love a dance radio, maybe 80s and 90s or a combined retro radio.

I wish Apple Music had a better interface for listening to recordings of their radio show. I love listening to old episode of the Alligator Hour but it’s a terrible UI. When you are in the middle of an episode and close up, it won’t resume your place like a podcast so I begin a 1 hour episode from the beginning again.

I think your prayers have been answered. There’s a simplified layout in the main Radio page with Hosts and Artist Shows. From there, you can select your host or artist show, and then their previously recorded episodes listed in reverse chronological order.

Joshua Homme’s Alligator Hour was discontinued unfortunately. It was my fav too. I found his previous show recordings. Will listen again.

A question to people from outside the us: Is hits as strange for you as it is for me? Hits from the 80,90,00 sound totally different here in Germany. Is this simply very us centric selection or is Germany here so different from the rest of the world?

Went on a road trip this weekend and really appreciated listening to Beats 1 again. They have a lot of quirky formats (some a bit too quirky, hello Abstract Radio - great tunes but damn Jaden ease of the chatter and sfx). Unfortunately the charts/hits that come between is a bit too commercial radio for me and hopefully that gets shunted off to AM Hits.

Zane Lowe is great. His enthusiasm and report with artists are second to none.

I have tried many times to enjoy Beats. There has never been ANYTHING that I liked. Like.....EVER! Comments here makes me wonder - does ANYONE like it?

Is anyone else tired of seeing marketing departments of so many companies slapping a "One" or "1" onto their product names? This insipid fad needs to die.

Palm One
Nokia 1
Capital One
OneDrive
OneNote
XBox One
Beats 1
Apple One
Google One
Cisco ONE

It's US/Anglosphere centric.

Even from a UK perspective, it's different to what we'd expect to hear. The big stars are the same as they're famous globally. But even the cheesy stuff like the Backstreet Boys show is very US-centric - if they wanted to put a grown up boyband that was more directly appealing to the UK they'd get Take That. No doubt there are better equivalents in Germany

Apple have always been USA first.

It's why their rnb/hiphop/rap ratio has always felt a bit off - it's popular in the UK but not as much as it is in America.

Yeah they were doing an introduction I believe.

I’m listening to it and an Ozzy Osbourne song has just finished, before that there was an Aerosmith song on.
I’m sorry I thought I was listening to a country radio station. Oh Carrie Underwood is hosting at the minute, that explains it then.

Well, to be fair, she explained in the launch show (just happened to catch that bit) that she will also play music that influenced her, in the teaser for her show you can also hear Queen and Guns 'n Roses.

This was one of the first things Jon Prosser commented was going to happen when he started to become prolific in terms of leaks earlier this year

and this is what 9to5mac started to beef him on when they sent his some questionable DMs

He showed people them and boom next thing you know 9to5 put him down in podcasts, Twitter, their website and much of their core user base became anti Prosser

In the end what was it worth? Prosser was right, there was a lot of needless flaming, and 9to5 ended up looking bigoted and refused to acknowledge his existence meanwhile Prosser gained a sizeable amount of people that either seem to love him or hate him

Such a weird thing to have a falling out Over too....The fact that beats was shifting towards Apple Music branding

Anyways - so long beats radio. I already miss the branding :(

Maybe this is step 1 on that rumor about the Beats brand being phased out. Physical products could be next, we already have rumors about Apple-branded headphones.

I find this a strange rumour. There’s a large group of people who are anti Apple, I think there’s a serious overlap of people who don’t know Apple own beats and are therefore Apple customers.

people don’t like Prosser for one reason... he has a personality. If he was completely anonymous, or just an investor or blogger like Quo or Mark, and he was giving as accurate information as he’s been giving, he would be absolutely loved. But people don’t like him because he’s crude, rude, and he tells it like he sees it. And he’s extremely arrogant, even though he’s admitted that he’s not actually like that, and it’s all just and over the top persona for his viewers.
Guarantee you, if all he did was leak things, and kept his opinions to himself, people would be raving about him. He’s been scary accurate on release dates and future plans, shaky on actual product images, but still.

Finally! I had been calling for this for years. Beats 1 was a good idea in principle but the entire world does not have the same musical taste. Whenever I’d think to give Beats 1 another chance, invariably it’d be either Trap or Grime, depending on whether the DJ was in the US or UK.

I had been hoping for more stations in world capitals to get a better cross section of the world‘s musical preferences (Beats Toronto, Beats Rio, Beats Tokyo, etc) but new stations by genre works too.

seems that you didn’t read the article. It’s just a rebrand. Unfortunately the article makes the reader think 2 new stations are created when in fact they’re not. The DJs remain and no mention of their existing setup to change either. Underneath it all it’s the same Beats - just phasing our the brand name.

I do like your idea though for radio station names - it actually implies or forces the project to get with the people of each city and what they prefer for their listening tastes.

just kill that brand. it never made sense to continue using that name

actually it made sense - you comply forgot Apple bought the brand explicitly for streaming radio, headsets, and especially for its brand name recognition.

This brand change seems more of half step. Should’ve occurred with changing the headphones as well. Maybe we’ll see this in the fall.

In multicultural cities with populations of millions of people, it is not feasible to come up with "City X's listening taste or preference".

Was feeling a bit excited about the 90's hip-hop show by Snoop. But if they are going to play the non-explicit versions of songs (as they have now on  Music Hits) then why do they even bother, ruined songs are not worth the disk space they are stored on.

His show page on Apple Music has both versions - explicit and non.
