So, I am a huge DMB fan and I have several of their Live Trax albums ripped into iTunes. In a couple of cases, different live versions of the same songs are on multiple albums. So how does the matching work? Can the program differentiate between different versions of live songs from different albums? Does it just do it's scan and say "oh that's #41, we have a match for that" and play a different live version than what I have, or worst still a studio cut?

Thanks for any help info testers of this system can provide.

I guess that might be one of the reasons the match rate is so low for some people, it actually looks at the waveform to make sure it is an exact match. So you will either get the right version, or it won't match and you will have to upload.

I got an 89% match rate on over 6000 songs, so it isn't as broken as people here would lead you to believe, but probably depends on how you got your music, and differences in recordings of the same song.

I had a number of cases where an album I bought on iTunes matched all but one song. That really surprises me. If a song is in my purchased history, it should match.

That is surprising. I would've thought that the first thing it would do is check your purchased list and automatically make those available. That would save time and bandwidth. Maybe it's a bug?

Yes, you will only be able to play back/download at 256. It won't delete the files you already have, though.

:confused:Whats is with everyone complaining that this isn't working 100%. It is BETA software. Hence it is not a finished product. Give appropriate feedback to Apple so they can work the bugs out and make this program as solid as can be at release.

OK, I am not sure exactly what this service intends to do. I purchased and went through the steps. Right now, I have about 25 files with the download button beside them, and they are duplicates of songs I already have in my iTunes library. I don't think it matched anymore than that in my library of 5000. Granted, I understand this is beta, but it doesn't seem to be working like anyone else's.

Hardly any of my purchased songs from iTunes were matched. I just turned it off and back on again, and now it is resyncing and going through the steps. Perhaps it is a bug of some sort.

Anyone else's iTunes Match crashing on step 2?

Mine did. I just restarted iTunes and it picked up.

On second try, I still only have 25 songs matched and they are duplicates of songs I already have. None of my purchased songs were matched. Something is not working right.

mine matched 600 of 12,800 tracks. I'm not uploading 11,000 songs. I ended up just turning it off. It was causing duplicated tracks on my iPhone (but one greyed out)

I found that my ripped cd tracks are 2 seconds longer than the iTunes versions.. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. I have ripped over 400 CDs into my iTunes, the rest purchased from iTunes, or amazon so the tagging is spot on.

Not getting matches

I do hope that it does a much better match rate once it's out. I have a massive library. The vast majority from store bought cds. Out of over 20,000 songs, only around 1,650 were matched. Worst still over a 1,000 of those were bought from iTunes. So I had poor results. Some cds had one song matched but the rest required uploading. The cds were ripped with iTunes.

Just my input. It seems a lot of us are getting mixed results.

Two questions for any of you have been using iTunes Match. Apologies if these have been answered already.

(1) Regardless of whether your song is "matched" by the cloud or is uploaded into the cloud, does the "new" iCloud version retain the metadata that you assigned to it, such as ratings and genres?

(2) I have spent a great deal of time creating "albums" out of odds and ends. For example, there is one artist for whom I have probably twenty CD singles. Rather than have the twenty CD singles appear as twenty albums, I went through and created a single album called "B-Sides." When those songs are either "matched" or uploaded by into the iCloud, with the iCloud version retain them in the album format I created?

Thanks.

1.) Matched songs don't retain custom meta-data -- it's essentially downloading a fresh copy from the iTunes Store.

2.) Uploaded songs should retain the meta-data, with the exception of ratings and play counts. I don't have much experience with this since I won't allow it to upload 11,000+ tracks on my limited broadband connection

iTunes Match crashing on step 1?

Has anybody experienced crashing during step 1? For me, it always crashing during that and won't continue. Even if I try disabling and enabling iTunes Match, iTunes crashes. Can anybody help?

Still saying it's full for me. Have tried everything to get on. I tried signing up as soon as the email showed up in my inbox. No dice.

Do you have Genius enabled? I found that after enabling Genius, Match completed, albeit super slow..

FYI, my results for 21,235 songs. Taken at least a couple hours so far to upload under 100 songs.

Does anyone know if you need iCloud beta (the software download) to use itunes match? I bought it but none of my music has the cloud download icon next to them. How do I replace my low quality music with high quality music? Anyone know?

Nope. Nobody knows.

You need iOS 5 and enable iTunes Match in the music settings.

I turned on itunes match in itunes and ios5 (in music settings). I see icloud icons next to my music and clicked one to download the icloud version (i guess the better quality version?) I synced my iphone but I don't see the better quality version in my itunes library.

Back in my day.. we use to just transfer a bunch of tunes in different playlists we wanted to hear onto our devices.

It was a different & more simple time for us...there was just no need to have permanent access to 7000+ songs. I guess the world is different now.

So I downloaded it & subscribed and everything, but I pretty much hate it. Now all my music is "In the cloud" but I have to click on 7 gigs worth of songs, one-by-one, in order to get them back on my phone? That is just retarded. There's no way to sync all the music to my phone that I had before, and just use Match to get extra songs I might want?

Yes, I have genius enabled.. I've also tried reinstalling lion and iTunes 10.5. The crashes are still happening..

Seems to be stuck on step 2. 41 songs checked with 738 remaining. Been stuck for about 20 minutes. Will stop it, restart iTunes, and start it back up again.

Maybe that was a bad idea. Started it back up, and it seems to be starting over at step 1. After about 10 seconds of it being at step 1, it goes back to the "your iTunes library is now available in iCloud" screen, with several hundred songs that can't be streamed or anything.
