I think Apple lost a lot of people when they moved to Face ID. A lot of my
Friends find it really creepy and don’t like the idea of it.

Uhhh they’re in the minority. I’m sure they lost people, but not an overwhelming amount.

Do they really think their faces are being stored on Apple’s servers? What would Apple even do with them?

There are a million other things that your friends should be worried about in this life. ALSO, Face ID isn’t mandatory... Lol.

I’m not a fan of the price increases over the last two years, but this shouldn’t be a big deal at all. You mean for once their sale staff actually had to try to sell a device? Shame on you Apple.

That's because there is no value in a USED handbag from LV. They only sell new ones. Walk into an LV or Gucci store and you'll see pressure. Their products for a handbad is way more than Apple is charging for a computer.

My wife would disagree. The used market for luxury goods is massive, especially with handbags. Something common these days is to take old bags that have the fabric/print of the luxury brand you covet and having it reworked into a new unique design.

Anyway my point still stands that doing these sorts of things hurt the luxury appeal of the brand. That sheep marketing is important to Apple and other luxury brands its the only way they can sell their overpriced stuff to the masses.

This is so

"We fundamentally believe you will be thrilled with the products you purchase from the Apple Store. That’s because we go out of our way to ensure that they’re designed and built to be just what you need."

Until we tell you otherwise

Purchase replacement iPhone 6 with a bent enclosure for $299 through the Genius Bar with a 90 day limited warranty, or put that towards a new phone with full warranty and peak performance.

Decisions.

Apple is presenting people with options that they may not have otherwise considered. This isn’t news.

When I got my battery replaced the technician tried to sell me on an XR. Not necessarily a bad thing, not like he was too persistent or anything.

Oh no! Apple tries to sell iPhones. I guess this writer has never stepped into a car dealership or ordinary mall retail store.
But the big thing that was pushed by Steve Jobs, and Ron Johnson back in the day was that retail was to make sure the customer was happy without being pushy just to upsell. That was made them differed to other retailers. It built brand loyalty and make people happy with the products they sell. Even more recently, Tim Cook and Angela Ahrendts repeated the same thing. Make customers comfortable and if fixing something makes the customer happy to not pressure and upsell.
I guess there is one statement for the public and one internally. They've just become like every company they complained about.

I don't think Apple would agree that their stores are ordinary mall retails stores or like a car dealership. I am no fan of the Apple brand anymore, but even I can't say that their stores are ordinary mall stores, I have visited stores in London, Orlando, Tokyo, Belfast and Edinburgh, and people there never tried to sell you anything directly, you can use their products and experience them, that works perfectly as long as we customers found value in their products by ourselves. However, maybe that is no longer happening, if all the reports of lower than expected sales across multiple devices are true, and if I take the Orlando store which I visited from December 20th to December 24th as an minimal, almost unrepresentative example, I can say that they were full of people every single day, but I can't remember seeing many people or anybody at all walking out with an Apple bag during those days. For Apple, profit and sales are very important, they had to do something with iOS12 because they are not stupid either and iOS 11 filled the cup for multiple customers, but of course they want $$$ and this is another example of that, Apple will find creative ways to make sure their devices are selling in the numbers they want, personally I think that at the moment there is a mismatch between price, value and quality, but that could change in the next years. And the most important question for me, when an Apple genius suggests me to buy a new model, do they have my best interest in mind or theirs?

Maybe if they made their phones more innovative like they used to and not add more stupid cameras to the back and lowered the prices then maybe I’ll upgrade every year like I used to. I’m sticking with my 7 for another 3 years.

I upgraded to an iPhone XR from a 7 Plus, only because my cell phone provider had a Black Friday deal ... $100 for an iPhone XR 256GB, 2 yr contract with unlimited SMS/Multimedia Texts, Unlimited minutes across country, 10GB data a month all for $120/month (plus 5% sales tax). Considering my employer pays for my monthly plan, and all I have to pay is the device cost, it was a pretty easy decision.

New plan was $5/month cheaper than the old plan too (which was the same, except only 3GB/month.) (That’s what plans in Canada are like, to put it into perspective to anybody that’s curious.)

“We love the environment and are taking steps to reduce our impact.”

Also Apple,

“Buy a new phone every 12 months. Ignore the e-waste and negative effects of mining raw materials.”

$hareholders apparently don’t care as much about the environment as executives at Apple do. Any shareholders here willing to sacrifice a significant chunk of your goodies in return for a cleaner environment for your children/grandchildren (possibly yourself)?

That’s very expensive compared to here in the UK and whilst I didn’t get an XR my package is identical, unlimited mins/texts and 10 GB of data, a Galaxy S9, nothing upfront for £27 a month (~CAN$45?)...oh and nothing traded in.....and a much better phone?

I think apple is giving up an important brand element here: from “our products are so wonderful that people just want them” to “we are just one of the phone producers and will stick to all these dubious marketing tricks to sell something”. This is massive transition in terms of ideology. This is an acknowledgement that it just can’t sell without small fonts placed under asterisk.

This ideology was behind the reasons that apple stores were full of people. Unlike Samsung’s, Sony or Xiaomi.
