Here’s an innovative idea, change the phone’s physical design and make it modern! Oh and add a better battery. It’ll sell!

Apple has enough money to engineer a change to the design, even while keeping the same phone size, bezel and home button and LCD screen. Make it the same case design as the other phones and colours too. But no, they keep the same old 8 year design, and even charge a higher price for it now. Also people who would buy the cheaper phones would probably want to have a headphone jack too. Apple is cost cutting at every turn. Apple is being greedy and lazy. It's time for Tim Cook to go.
Time Cookie should be close to retiring, but maybe they’re waiting for a replacement that could handle it all.

They did the absolute minimum with the new SE. I liked the old SE 2020 enough I bought one for each of my elderly parents. There's practically no upgrade in this new one worth considering. Moving from the useless 64BG memory to 128GB is essential for people like my mum who take loads of pics and videos, and should have been the base. 64GB shouldn't be a thing any more, unless it's for a dumb display... Also, the camera is due an upgrade, as it's 5 year old tech.

I believe the goal is not to offer an affordable iPhone, but to push up their ASPs. Thus the increased price to close the gap with the 11. So those who would've gone with the SE for $399 might now be tempted to just get the 11 for just $70 more (instead of $100 more previously).
I'm still convinced that Apple's many "low" and "mid-tier" products are just as much "decoys" as they are anything else.

iPad Air 5 is another great example of this -Despite the top-of-the-line SoC and 5G, all it really does is make you appreciate just how many, many more features you get with an 11" M1 Pro for only $200 more. And all of sudden, you aren't questioning spending $799 on a tablet even though you only wanted a new one because you were looking into getting an iPad Air 5.

Apple surely knows how to play us. But this SE 3 might have taken it too far.

It’s almost as if people who buy the cheapest product in your lineups don’t care about the latest tech or design, they just use whatever they have until it dies then get another one as a refurbished or wait for a sale. Odd to expect consumers of this device to not only upgrade but pay more on top of it when the whole point of the device is to be the cheapest entry model.

Feels like Apple is out of touch with the market these days.

13 Mini feels like a better choice overall.
It comes down to what offers you might have access to. But yes, 11, 12 mini and 13 mini are all way better options on most parameters.

The whole idea that 11 is a big step back because of A13 is such a misunderstanding -A15 is only between 20-40% faster on graphics, single-core, multi-core, etc.

It's not worth going for when you consider iPhone 11 also has a huge 3100 mAh battery while SE 3 only has a 2000 mAh battery. And a much larger display. And FaceID. And the U1 chip. And markedly better cameras. The list goes on and it's just $70 more than SE 3.

Surprise surprise not many people want an iPhone 8 design in 2022.
This. The SE is soo close to being a solid phone but it’s design is it’s biggest flaw. And one Apple - a company who prides itself on design - has ironically failed to see. Not trying to get into a Steve vs Tim debate (which is eurgh in itself) but Steve’s Apple would never…

You mean iPhone 6 design from 2014. It’s literally about an 8 year old design. And it shows.
No, the SE uses the 8's glass sandwich design, which is closer to the X/Xs design than the unibody aluminum of the 6/6s/7. It uses the same front LCD panel as the 6/6s/7, but the body frame is actually the X design using aluminum (instead of stainless steel).

Some complain that Apple forces people to buy too many new stuff by changing the design too often, some complain that the SE3 remains similar to SE2 and iPhone 8...

SE3 looks like out of time, and this is good to me.

They should have slashed to iPhone 13 mini and instead used it’s design as the new SE.
Too soon. The idea is to encourage people to buy the more expensive models. If the cheapest model had the same design as the more expensive one, it would go against what Apple wanted.

The mini design will be used once the current design has been completely replaced with a newer design. So that consumers will know "oh, this is the cheaper and older looking model."

Wonder why we are not seeing the XR body being used? Because there's still the 11 for sale. At least that's what I think. :)

Budget iPhones make little sense when carriers are basically giving the flagship phones away. Daughter absolutely wanted the SE. Touch ID. Liked iPhone 8. We waited for se 3 since it was hard to find 2020 one in stock. But Verizon is wanting msrp for it. Or knocks 1000 off the pro. Daughter came to her senses. Honestly I wouldn’t pay a dime for the SE.

glad to know people is not stupid.

Things you may notice and use of a phone in order:
1- screen
2-camera
3-performance

No body wants a small size screen and those who dont care, dont care about the latest CPU.

I mean, I can swap my mothers iPhone 6s with the latest iPhone SE she wouldnt notice. But she crying about the “big screen iPhone” of me or mys sisters (11,12 or 13)

So who is going to pay 500e for something you can buy in blackmarket since 5 years ago

I don't think it is something to do with Design at all. That $30 dollar increase breaks a lot of purchase assumption.
It will be curious to see how many people that originally wanted the SE ended up buying the 11 instead in the store, after seeing the SE and 11 side by side, and looking at the 11 with larger display and dual camera for just $70 more.

I like to get budget phones that will last me a long time. On average, I keep a smartphone for 4-5 years. I used to be able to find decent, well-supported budget Android phones for this, but they don't exist anymore.

This makes the iPhone SE is one of the cheapest long-term options available now, which is why I now have an iPhone.

Instead of a separate iPhone SE model, Apple should just release a $399 5G iPhone 12 when the iPhone 14 is released. If they can’t release a two year old model for $399 and there’s a problem going on inside Apple.
Something that is two years old design as the base model will work for most and nothing needs to be retooled. When iPhone 15 is released we’ll get an iPhone 13 for $399 and so on.
A lot of us are doing this now using swappa eBay and the such and getting a slightly older model for much less to fit our budget.
Used iPhone 11 models are selling below $399 now. Put a new battery in for $49 and your good to go.

Maybe quite a few will be buying iPhone 11 instead. But still iPhone SE is a good iPhone.
