What are those trial run iPhone 14’s running at the moment: iOS 15.5, iOS 16 beta or Switchboard?

I think the iPhone 14 is going to be 1st fail for an iPhone.

Reasons: Old SOC, no latest display cutouts, no 120hz refresh rate which even low end androids have, no USB-C. Apple can’t keep the carrot dangling forever. Something’s gotta give in.

iPhone Pro is a fake product line created to drum up prices.

The target customer is someone with an iPhone 11 or earlier, not an iPhone 13. By that comparison, the 14 will be a substantial upgrade by every measure

"Fake product line". LoL. Sounds like your a bit cash strapped

The iPhone 14 lineup may outsell the iPhone 13 lineup, but the iPhone 14 specifically will most definitely not outsell the iPhone 13.

It is all about what % of the iPhone installed base is in the market for a new phone. Few who bought the iPhone 13 are going to go out and buy the iPhone 14

Love our "certain" you are about your non-quantitive, no analysis opinion

I know the 14 with the price rise across the board coupled with the weak yen over here has caused this device to no longer be the #1 “intended to buy” phone in Japan this autumn and that for the first time Apple is losing to Google Pixel which is starting to pick up defectors from the 8-11 generational holdouts who have been satisfied with their devices to date but can’t justify 50% of a month’s salary on a replacement pocket phone.

You seem to be missing the point. No one denies that a singular generational upgrade is very incremental. The point is there doesn’t even seem to be an incremental upgrade from 13>14. So why would an iPhone 11 user pay more money for a 14 over a 13?

Rumoured standard 14 is pretty garbage and doesn’t make sense over the 13 which will be even cheaper come September. But I think apple are banking on the 14 max doing well (and I can see this being true myself)

It’s also true that the standard 12 was a record seller, so a lot of people are going to be coming to the end of their 2 year contracts and will just automatically jump over to the 14 without really understanding what they’re paying for.

i'm itching for an upgrade but my 12 Pro Max hasn't let me down. the only thing concerning me is the battery which is at 93%. it seems to be going down much faster but even if it gets really bad i can just pay £70 for apple to put a new one in.

my AppleCare expires in November so i'm thinking maybe i should just get a 14 and keep that for 2 years. but at the same time i'm thinking i should just wait for the 15 lmao.

im in exactly the same boat but mine is at 88%. Definitely noticeable throughout the day. I’m ready for the 14 pro max. Might go silver this year.

I upgraded from iPhone X to iPhone 12 Pro when it came out because of 5G support. Neither the iPhone 13 Pro nor 14 Pro have a compelling feature for me.

I am tired of buying USB-C to Lightning cables that cost twice as much as USB-C to USB-C cables for the same quality. There is no good reason anymore for the iPhone to use Lightning. Everything is switching to USB-C including the majority of Apple's products.

I think they're in for a surprise. The IPhone 13 sales are still strong because people (at least here in Asia) are buying the 13 now expecting prices to be raised just like they were in Japan. Here in Korea, the won just hit 1316 to 1 USD. That's a very strong dollar -- stronger than in maybe 15 years. Everyone is buying the 13 knowing prices will be raised on the 13 and the new 14, within months. The won is expected to get worse, as the US messes with interest rates.

Sadly this is the answer. Sad because network operators still have a strangehold on the phone market. This isn't the 60s, you don't have to buy the phone from AT&T any more than you have to buy your lights from the power company, I wish more people knew that.
Why is the IPhone 12 nearing replacement? I think people are going to wait another year, at least. I'm an IPhone 11 Pro user on original battery, BTW.

The good news here is that after iPhone14’s formal announcement, iPhone12mini will likely have another price reduction and I’ll replace my iPhone7 with that. Looking forward to it. Absolutely no need for the 14, or even the 13, for my iPhone needs.
The battery on the 12 mini is just dismal, and it has a resale value equaling that of a base 11. People eat through that battery on the 12 mini faster, because they're charging it all of the time. I'd look at another.

I will be upgrading my 256gb 12 Mini to the 512gb 13 mini and I will probably keep that phone for the forceable future since they canned the mini , which is perfect imo.

That would be rad if they added Touch ID to the power button as well — using it on my iPads is sometimes more beneficial

If the average consumer has an ounce of common sense, there is little reason to upgrade to an iPhone 14, let me be very specific, the 6.1" non-pro iPhone 14, if the rumors are true that it will be the smallest incremental improvement in iphone history. I have a 5.8" iPhone XS and have been putting off upgrading year after year, and was planning on upgrading this year, but I am now more likely to upgrade to an iPhone 13 or to hold out yet again for another 12 months.

iPhone Mini, do not leave us. Please, please come back.

Interesting, and I have found a few posts that reinforce that. However, I’ve got three 12 mini’s among friends and family all of whom are experiencing no problems whatever with their batteries. Looks like the results are mixed.

For me, the 12mini’s size is the primary reason I want it. Everything else gets big quickly. My smart phone uses are basic including minimal photography but size does matter.

For you, it seems the iphone 14 offers little reason to upgrade. But me with my XS Max, there is a bit more than an incremental upgrade that would entice me to upgrade. Of course, it's plain common sense, the longer one holds off on upgrade the more features/functions that are built into the phone.

Exactly! Hard to believe I'm the only one holding back because of the USB-C.

15 with USB-C is going to be sales boom.
I'm not going to refuse to buy without USB-C if something else I wanted like AoD came, but I would definitely buy if the only change was USB-C
