I picked up an Asus ZenBook S 16 with a 16" 3K 120Hz OLED and 24GB RAM/1TB SSD and as thin and light as anything for $625. I'd rather spend on something like that than a dead-end MacBook model.

Yep. You need that extra 16GB of RAM just for Windows. In the other 8GB you’ve got room for at least one or two apps.

Not sure whether there will be any pre orders or the new devices will be available to purchase right away. In case there are pre orders, there will be nothing new to see in stores immediately. Maybe some of the new launches like iPad will be available immediately.

I would be interested if they announced the rumoured Home Hub device. That would be something they would need to demo and people to see in person. However I don't think it will happen, the new Siri isn't coming out yet from what rumours have said.

I too am keen to learn about any new HomeKit devices, but I am not sure of they will be announced this week. Really up in the air as to what they announce as we have had rumours claiming everything from only chip bumps for a few devices, to a complete blow out of all new devices..

The entry level MBA always had excellent performance at a very reasonable price. A A19 will have entry level performance at a comparably high price.

Apple must really think this will be a huge hit to make such strides -- I just don't see it. If they just wanted to improve sales they could simply have stopped keeping the MBA updated to top notch specs and drop the price...

It seems like it's something in-between (if that makes sense.) Apple are not making a full blown event, but at the same time they are doing "experiences" in New York, London and Shanghai. So not just a press release, but not a full event either.

The last time I remember something like this, was when Apple announced the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro. Craig Federighi did a demo in the video. The video was only a few minutes long. During the demo he showed off the Magic Keyboard and the software side of how they changed the cursor to work with the trackpad.

It will be interesting to see what they announce and what they do in terms of this "experience"

My first purchase this year needs to be a new monitor, I am waiting to see what Apple come out with before deciding so would be nice to see that this week.

I think Apple is really underestimating the amount of disenfranchisement shoddy software will cause long term.

I think people in online enthusiast forums overestimate how their opinions reflect the views of the overall marketplace and the priorities of the manufacturers.

Sounds like you got a good deal but I’m talking about the people for whom your computer description is just technobabble.

Retailers take advantage of them and sell them garbage because they just buy price and then brand.

Or maybe it will just switch customers from the base MacBook Air to this device. This will probably give Apple the desired opportunity to raise the Air's price by cutting the current entry Air model.

Cutting the entry-level MacBook Air doesn’t raise the price, it raises the entry-level price. Crucial difference.

The MBA line will simply start at 16/512/$1199. Same price as before for the same spec tier. This is not a price increase.

The issue with MacBooks is that they run macOS.

It’s still a vast improvement over Windows Home or even Pro at this point. From an IT management perspective of unmanaged users, anyway.

On the contrary, it’s the perfect time for Apple to release a $799 laptop, just as the definition of a $799 laptop is about to change industry wide.
