You’re right. Those who wanted could get a M4 MBA for 749$ in recent times. This thing needs to come in way lower at like $499.
It will be interesting to see their TV ad campaigns to see how they are targeting it. Normally MacBooks don't see much TV ads but the nature and audience for this new model will likely require them or the key market won't even know they exist.Apple will sell loads of the new MacBook.
naaahActually curious to see this new MacBook. So many people buy garbage windows computers because they just see the price. Maybe this will finally get some good hardware in their hands.
You left out an important magnitude indicator: 1. The ASUS Zenbook S16 is ~ $1,625. Importantly it doesn't run MacOS. It also weighs 3.3 pounds versus the 2.7 pounds of the MacBook Air. You are free to buy anything you want. Most laptops are "dead-end" in that you cannot upgrade the processor, keyboard, SSD, ports, screen, or RAM after purchase.Yeah, a MacBook that is stuck with 8GB RAM and a last-gen tablet/phone CPU and a tiny amount of SSD. That's what you call "good hardware"?
I picked up an Asus ZenBook S 16 with a 16" 3K 120Hz OLED and 24GB RAM/1TB SSD and as thin and light as anything for $625. I'd rather spend on something like that than a dead-end MacBook model.
You are right that it will surely lure people. But never underestimate the desire for Apple to maintain their high margins (specially with the storage and ram crisis) and find original ways to increase prices without customers really noticing it.I'm not so sure it will have better margins (maybe). This is their MacBook to lure those that have been lusting after a MacBook but couldn't afford one. The lure has to be very attractive so they can then hook them and get some to later upgrade to more powerful models.
Depends of the pricing. I may be wrong, but I think it will be priced at around 150$ less than the current base Air. In fact, I wouldn't even be surprised it will be priced just 100$ less than the current base Air and they will phase out the current base Air when it is upgraded to M5.Apple will sell loads of the new MacBook.
I am interested in fun as well. If I need intelligence, I have MR for that (sometimes). They had me at fun colors. Who cares about Apple intelligence? 😂

I wonder... Before the current price squeeze, Apple was already charging a premium for RAM and SSD. They could probably give up a little margin on those parts to keep their price stable and their volumes up. Not saying they would do this because they're nice people. There's an analysis (that they're probably already doing) where they keep their margins up and sell fewer units, or give back a little on RAM and SSD and sell more. Somewhere in the middle is where they'll maximize total profit. You are right that it will surely lure people. Plus, they'll get great press for saying they're holding the line on RAM and SSD costs.
You’re right, and this is a weird time to be introducing an entry level product in a well-established category, especially if you expect a rush of orders. This type of product would make more sense at back-to-school time or XMasApple always seems to overestimate demand for lower-end entry level products. Yes they will sell well over time because of the appealing prices. But from what I have seen during past launches, the tech enthusiasts who rush out and buy things on launch day or week tend to be looking for the cutting edge, top of the line products…
You could be right -- for now. If they play just the right ads then some younger people may go to check out the low cost PCs (in fun colors of course) and then go bug their parents for the next several months until back to school time comes back around. I can just see a bunch of pink MacBooks with Hello Kitty stickers. Most likely a ‘Major Rush’ for people to check out all the new products, not necessarily to buy
iMouth will release multiple reviews this week, without a doubt.I expect a major rush this week by…..the usual content creators.
A18pro: 3539 single core, 8772 multi-core$800 is too steep for a MacBook with an A series SoC.
