In reading the comments here, I think many would be very surprised at just how little scientific research is done by corporations these days.
they don't spend that much money on fundamental scientific research any more, but they do spend money on R&D, on stuff that can make them money in near future.

How about a Secretive 'Startup' team to work on providing improvements and stability on iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and macOS? It's the software that needs love and attention.
Yeah, especially Music for people who don't subscribe to Apple Music (i.e. prefer to buy songs instead of rent them).

I think the number or Apple hater on this site taints the tone of commentary on articles like this. The comments here ignore many of the main points of the article. For instance, Their competitors wear their moonshot projects on their sleeves. It’s done all out in the open. They don’t have secretive divisions that are structured where even the engineers don’t know what they are working on because they are separated by skill set instead of by project.

They don’t have a secretive one on the scale of Apple that functions like the one in the article.
Sony used to have it. Apple is really just emulating what Sony had done. If you really know your tech history, you'll realize that Apple has done far more emulating than innovating.

Apple ALWAYS has experimental stuff being worked on. The original iPhone was experimental stuff.

duh indeed. Did he think the EKG feature on the Apple Watch just fell into their lap one morning for example
No but who said they developed it?
Apple is always looking out for actual companies to buy and inherit their technologies.
Almost every comment I’ve read here is so nose up high, if all of you already knew all of this, why aren’t you publishing instead if Mark Gurman? He’s making good money making these reports and y’all are just „yup of course nothing new here“.1
It’s a „confirmation“ post, not a ground breaking new story.

I hope it is the new Airport Extreme. I bought a second (spare) AIRPORT Extreme in 2018 and I am still trying to survive on these until the second coming.
