GOOD. I want them to have as many seats at the table as possible. They could be lying to us but Apple has convinced me they do care about privacy. They need to know what’s going on at OpenAI.

Or, they are for-profit. Just because the non-profit entity "controls" the for-profit entity doesn't mean it can't be sold.

Mental gymnastics is what I need to follow this logic. What exactly did Elon create? They are not on his path, they split years ago. Twitter, now that’s an Elon product you should stay away from.

Apple's strategy usually involves draining the competitor of their talent through intense hiring efforts. The fact that Apple wasn't successful here says a lot.

I could spend all day listing the reasons he sucks. Hate is such an overused term now, and I don't hate the guy, but I sure don't want to support him. That said, Musk hasn't been a part of openAI for some time.
Either way, I dislike openAI because Sam Altman, Grifter Extraordinaire, happens to be it's CEO. That and the company is a bunch of thieves scraping data without permission, credit, or citation.

Both Elon Musk and Sam Altman are pimples on the face of humanity, so I don’t think it actually matters. Elon leaving doesn’t make the company any less morally bankrupt.
We ALL know what’s going on at OpenAI. Unless Apple is going to take a controlling interest, meaning the 51% that Microsoft doesn’t own, I don’t think they’ll be able to change it. And I’m not sure they want to. I really, REALLY want to believe Apple cares about privacy, but putting ChatGPT on their products makes me question how deep that commitment actually goes.

Right. I don't think Apple can make OpenAI any less screwy. The board tried to fix one their biggest flaws (Altman) but Microsoft went in and told the company to rehire him or else. They are 100% a subsidiary of Microsoft right now and they will not let that change. They like the arrangement because can keep the sleaze of generative ML at arms length and avoid extra anti-trust attention.
You don't have to be a public company to be bought. Beats wasn't a public company and Apple was able to buy them. Siri wasn't a public company and Apple bought them too. Shazam Entertainment wasn't a public company. Guess what? Apple bought them.

I know that. You'd be surprised by how many people don't connect Alfred the explosives guy and Alfred the prize guy.
Apple can't do much of anything these days, except make gaming crap nobody buys, and recycle old products.
But they got the cash so who cares.
