OpenAI created by Elon Musk fyi. Using ChatGPT means you're using an Elon-product.

Unless of course you don't care about whether or not he started the company but rather who runs it today is who really matters. Then you'll admit who runs Tesla today is who really matters and it doesn't matter who started Tesla.

The mental gymnastics of some people I see on Threads/X lmao...
What's with all the mental gymnastics? Does the article mention Elon at all? This isn't Threads or X either, it's the MacRumors forum comment thread.

It feels like there's a problem with something but without the context of the problem it's very difficult to understand the point of this post.

I'm super curious why investing in Open AI vs Anthropic. I have switched from OpenAI to Anthropic because results are less mumbled with hallucinations vs Open AI's models. Anthropic feels more accurate, but for some reason everybody and they mother are mooning over Open AI and Sam Altman.

applying a standard for one company and a different standard for another company for the sole purpose of dunking on someone you dislike proves bias and not objectivity.
Apples and oranges. The world is not binary.

I don't have access to the latest and greatest models. I only have used the free AI chat on Duckduckgo for very simple questions like recipes or as an ESL grammar questions. They did work quite well for that.

It irks me for example, that LLMs are not able to produce references for the 'knowledge' they produce.
“I don't have access to the latest and greatest models.”

Here you go. I am comparing to the latest cutting edge models and infrastructures around them. Apple have their own model and infra, but it’s not good enough

“Aren't you worried though, that it will feed you complete rubbish, aka hallucinations when you ask factual questions?”

Not really, some models provide reference. There is also RAG and Guardrails for LLM

Not sure why people are parroting that Apple can't, or won't, develop their own LLM. They already have, they published a whitepaper about it. You can even use it in a limited capacity in the iOS 18.1 Beta.
Yeah I am pretty confident if their model is actually decent they won’t need to invest OpenAI. The new Siri experience wouldn’t be this disappointing.

If investing OpenAI is strategic, it would be done a year ago, not after they spent a year and a half to try and do something on their own.

Not all LLMs are equal

Probably because it’s a safer bet

Risky. Very risky.

Developing AI, as opposed to applying existing algorithms and architectures, isn't so easy.
So what? That’s exactly why I show what other big companies have done. It’s hard, but others have done it, and did it pretty well.

Oh are you saying Apple can’t solve a challenge other companies can solve?

Developing an AR headset is hard, should Apple just screw it up then, and collab with meta? No! And there are other hard challenges, do Apple just give up or lags behind?

Apple is not a person, it’s a company, and once the most wealthy and respected company. They are the one to solve the challenges

EU: this is monopoly we wont let Apple invest money in OpenAI :)
EU will determine how much money each company can invest in OpenAI.
EU companies should get first preference or OpenAI should make ChatGPT open source.

it was not "created" by Elon Musk alone.
he was co founder.
Musk got out of it years ago but i think he still owns some stake in it, probably minor.

I could spend all day listing the reasons he sucks. Hate is such an overused term now, and I don't hate the guy, but I sure don't want to support him. That said, Musk hasn't been a part of openAI for some time.

Either way, I dislike openAI because Sam Altman, Grifter Extraordinaire, happens to be it's CEO. That and the company is a bunch of thieves scraping data without permission, credit, or citation.
he is just a big cry baby who seeks attention and wants to be in news every hour.

I find ChatGPT to be a great search engine. It gives you relevant result without having to read a bunch of useless content and if you don’t have an ad blocker, see a bunch of ads.

But since we can’t have nice things, I ask myself how are they going to turn it to crap by injecting ads, propaganda or turn the experience worse.
I use Duck Duck Go as my search engine, no adverts, well not that much anyway, the odd thing from Duck Duck go, but they have to get money from somewhere, but the best thing, they don't track me, something with other search engines and all these so-called AI rubbish do.

This company started off by stealing basically every copyrighted written and visual work they could get their hands on and incorporating it into their plagiarism software... so I guess crime does pay?

I just don't want it on my phone. Smooshy uncanny-valley CGI pictures give me the creeps.
this is the way AI works, by scrapping data and other people's work.

How are they breaking their privacy promise? The integration with ChatGPT is optional and very limited. Their contract with openAI prevents openAI from storing any data it gets from users and from doing any training on user data. Apple has the right to audit openAI’s compliance in this.
And when Apple figures out what the rest of us already know, that OpenAI is morally bankrupt and using everything it can get its dirty little hands on to train their AI, they’ll what, apologize and pray it doesn’t tank their brand? Once your data is stolen you aren’t getting that privacy back.

No, some of them are trained on stolen data and then fed back their own bogus responses causing them to hallucinate like they’re on acid 24/7, and some aren’t. Funny how so many people think the first is wonderful instead of insisting on the second.

no one else seems to be claiming the name. if you're refusing the claim where the source is the original founder of the company and also where no other founder seems to be denying the story, you're being extremely biased and there's basically no point.

I love how when there's a discussion about CarPlay or Apple's car project, Elon gets bashed on even though the article doesn't mention Elon, but when it's something that possibly makes Elon look good, "why is Elon mentioned" is asked.
