Apple is reportedly planning to increase the price of the upcoming iPhone 13 series as a way to compensate for the increased costs of chip production from its leading chip supplier TSMC, according to a report from DigiTimes.

According to the report, TSMC is planning to increase the costs of its chip production, impacting several customers, including Apple. TSMC is reportedly looking to increase its costs by as much as 20% for its "advanced and mature process technologies." The new changes are expected to go into effect in January.
TSMC has reportedly notified customers of price increases by as much as 20% for its advanced and mature process technologies, with the new prices set to be effective starting January 2022. The price adjustments will also be for the orders scheduled to be fulfilled starting December.

For TSMC's advanced sub-7nm process technologies, quotes will rise by 3-10%, the sources indicated. Apple, the biggest client of TSMC with its orders accounting for over 20% of the foundry's total wafer revenue, will experience a 3-5% price hike, the sources said.
As a way to compensate for the increase of the costs, Apple is reportedly eyeing to increase the costs of the upcoming iPhone 13 series to "mitigate the impact of rising costs on their profitability."
While facing rising production costs, brand vendors may end up passing the costs onto end-market customers, the observers said.

Apple is likely to set higher prices for its upcoming iPhone and other series, according to market sources. Multiple notebook brand vendors, which have raised their prices by 5-10% so far this year, continue to explore ways to mitigate the impact of rising costs on their profitability.
Apple this year is preparing some considerable improvements for the iPhone 13, including features specifically designed for professional photographers and videographers. On the higher-end models of the upcoming lineup, Apple is rumored to be adding support for ProRes for videos and portrait mode videos. Apple may see both of these features as justification for an increase in price on its most premium iPhones.

Apple is expected to hold an all-digital event which will include the announcement of the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 in just a few weeks. To catch up on everything we know about the upcoming iPhones, be sure to check out our comprehnsive guide.

That's fine. There are many other cheaper options available. Plus that 1TB iPhone is not going to be cheap.

On a side note... Weibo is confirming it will be called iPhone 13, not 12S.

Announce and send out the press invites already. If we don't receive an invite tomorrow. Next week it is!!! :)

Its digitimes, of course its a lie
The reason that Apple could increase the iphone line up its if they will start from 256 ssd default storage for the Pro models for example

Not a surprise at all. Apple already increased the price of the iPhone 12, so I'm guessing it's the Pro that will get a price hike this time.

The worse part is pricing in some countries like mine will be even more ridiculous.

Samsung releasing S21FE during that time will be perfect as an anti-thesis to the expensive iPhone 13.

Even if we assume that TSMC components make up 100% of iPhone’s retail price, a %3-%5 increase means somewhere between $30 and $50 for a phone that sells for $1000.

Since the TSMC silicon probably costs less than a tenth of the retail price of the device, the effect should be negligible. Apple won’t increase the price of the phone to save a few bucks per device.

On the other hand, they may do a price increase to balance the lost sales because of the chip shortage.

:( Hope the increase is not much. But I was expecting a hike since the prices of the Pro models have remained the same since iPhone X was launched(X/XS at $999, XS Max at $1099). So same price since 2017/18.

This price increase, if true will make it much more expensive outside US. :(

Then again, if the price hike is true, it may be restricted to higher storage capacities (1 TB WiFi only variant of 11” iPad Pro increased by $200 in 2021, when compared to the 2020 version)

I am sure we will love the new pricing. The more we pay for the same thing, the more valuable it gets for us somehow, instead of becoming repulsive. Apple is helping us realise the value here, how we must have the latest every year, chip shortage be damned, and I think we need to be thankful. Apple should increase the pricing every year to compensate for a lot of other things as well. They need to go all out on this. It's about time.

I mean, the prices have always looked nice in US dollar but it is just insane to see that price tag in something like Euro. Yes, tax is not included in the price blablabla but it still does not come close. I remember those days when Apple only replaced the $ sign with the € sign but now it is like 200 in Euro on top! they also seem to be penny pinching with ridiculous prices like "X Euro and 41 Cent". Even Apple must know their prices are insane, since they are usually promoting the "from" price, based on a monthly financed price now instead of showing the full price straight away. Who would have ever thought you will have to finance a phone?! I know the US loves financing stuff and paying later but that usually does not fly well here.

Thankfully I am not in the market of a new iPhone. I have not even taken advantage of the 12 Pro Max camera yet thanks to going from lockdown to lockdown. Finally will be able to use it for the first time on vacation in a year next week. Also, iOS has advanced so little. What do you need to upgrade for? Only to go back using the same apps on the same Home Screen that you probably haven't been bothered to change in years :D

edit: just realised this post is a lot about "me" lol oh well, it is a forum

... that's why I bought iPhone 8 when X was around... iPhone prices kept increasing, unlike many other computers. Heck my then-top-of-the-line iPaq hw6965 was less than half the price of today's iPhone.

What about reducing prices on all the old Mac models they still hold in their line up.

Costs for those would have fallen since the technology in them are 3+ years old.

Daylight robbery they were trying to sell the trash can Mac Pro at full price after 6 years on the market before the new one came out.
