With carrier subsidies ending, Apple needs to be LOWERING the price rather than INCREASING it...Oh well, well see how well it does when people are forced to finance the iphone rather than upgrade via a subsidized price.

Talk about an unclear article . . . it seems Apple is proposing to increase the retail and wholesale price by $100, which would increase the carrier subsidy.

Why would telcos object to an increase in the subsidized price, given how much they've been complaining about subsidies anyway?

At this price, I would expect the phone to have 2GB of RAM at the least. Even with these added 'features', which many Android phones already have, how would Apple be able to justify the added expense? Are we thinking there might be a non-premium phone offering that they fear will undercut their sales and this is an attempt to offset that effect? Perhaps it will be an iPhone 6c...

if they make a larger phone that i can still hold and work with only one hand and it includes all the usual upgrades to the camera and A8, iOS 8, etc, I could probably handle an increase for on contract. Off contract it would be harder to justify.

Please do not make a phone that requires two hands like samsung - that alone would be a deal breaker for me. Doing that and increasing the price -- for the love of all that is good in the world, don't do it Tim; don't do it.

Dang! I will be jumping to a Windows 8 phone which is been tempting me for a while regardless of any difference. Don't get me wrong, I've been using iPhone for nearly 5 years.

This would be a PR nightmare for Apple if it's true. The media would destroy them. Sales would plummet.

You don't know the demand for Apple products then.

That the 5s sold way more units than the 5c shows that people who want Apple products don't mind paying a premium for it.

I daresay that should the price of the iPhone increase, sales would remain constant, or even increase, if consumers feel that the added utility of the iphone6 exceeds the price increase.

Price =/= value.

Easy solution/excuse: eliminate the 16GB model. This also creates a path to "price drops" down the line.

I'll wait and see what really happens before I make any judgements or post something foolish

Drawing conclusions based on incomplete information and speculation is very risky

This gives me hope that they will continue offering a 4" model at existing price points... and the way they did the iPad rMini gives me hope that it will not compromise any features. Should be an interesting year for the iPhone.

I am sure that people will buy it. I'll probably buy it, but it will hurt the number of units sold as others are lowering their prices while Apple is raising the price. They will make more profit on less units.

honestly, if it's for a phone (size wise at least) competing with the Note 3 it actually makes sense, the Galaxy Note 3 is quite a bit more expensive than the Galaxy S line

If this is true, what was the point of that report where Apple says they "don't have" the larger screen and cheaper phone market?

No way they increase their prices (especially now that there's more competitors).

Plus, let's look at the source of this "info".

Besides, when was the last time you saw Apple *increase* the price of an already established product?

Last fall, when they renewed the iPad mini. And yes, that already was an established product at the time.

Hm.

Hate to say it but this time Samsung has a compelling offering with 4k video, 16 megapixel camera.

People aren't going to cough up an extra $100 just because it says iPhone on the back if they don't measure up in terms of feature set.

Just sayin'.

... they are demanding $100 more from carriers, who are then forced to absorb the difference?
If I understand the pricing arrangement correctly, the above is what the source was talking about...

Then again, this:
Carriers realize that the iPhone 6 will likely be the only headline-worthy high-end phone launched this year...
...may be ok if posted by us fans on a forum like this, but from an analyst? Makes him sound SLIGHTLY biased...

This is one reason why I've already jumped ship.

The price in the UK has kept on increasing. Guarantee the iPhone 6 will jump up too.
