This gives me hope that they will continue offering a 4" model at existing price points... and the way they did the iPad rMini gives me hope that it will not compromise any features. Should be an interesting year for the iPhone.

Even if they continue making the 5S it won't likely have up to 64gb storage..

It will probably either be decontented or they'll make a 5SC

Noooo!!

I'm very sorry Apple, but if you increase the price of the Base Model iPhone by $100 and don't give us more storage capacity as standard, I'm looking at your rivals products.

The iPhone is great, but it's not so great that you can ask any price for it.

If Apple does do this, then I think this is a serious mistake. Having said that, I think plenty of people will pay it. Probably (if I'm honest) myself included.

I'll wait and see what really happens before I make any judgements or post something foolish

Drawing conclusions based on incomplete information and speculation is very risky

It's not risky. Nobody really reads these forums or takes any of the "predictions" seriously. So, go ahead, conjecture away!

Whyyy? That seems like a not so brilliant move. ESPECIALLY with carriers trying to get us off of subsidized plans. Shouldn't Apple be trying to make it CHEAPER to appeal to those that pick up "cheapy" Android phones over iOS because of cost??

No way they increase their prices (especially now that there's more competitors).

Plus, let's look at the source of this "info".

Besides, when was the last time you saw Apple *increase* the price of an already established product?
The iPod bumped prices when it went to the iPhone 5 form factor.

The only time this might be fine is if they double the space. Like make the base model 32 GB for $300. This is actually what they did with the iPod touch 5. They got rid of the 8 GB. But if they are just going to raise the price and not the storage, apple can say bye to me!

What I'd like to see is an iPhone 5S or even 4S size with feature upgrades, touch ID, sapphire crystal display, A8 chip, and 128 gb storage..

The price doesn't matter to me. What's another $100?

It could just be that they want to increase the subsidized price. That's the only way I see this making sense unless they introduce the 6 as a larger screen high end phone and also have an updated smaller screen one at the same price.

Everything and everyone is pointing to consumers wanting a lower priced iPhone and Apple still doesn't get it?

This is probably the one and only time I back the carriers.

Maybe they're trying to move "upscale" like some luxury goods/watch manufacturers are. It's nothing for certain brands to have a 5-10% increase every year. A Rolex Submariner (stainless streel) was $3950 in 2004, and is $8500 now. Maybe Apple wants to be more "exclusive". Next, they'll only sell in Apple Stores (their version of "boutiques").

At the end of the day, people will still buy their stuff, so i guess they can do whatever they want.

So Apple is going to MAKE me get a larger phone whether I want it or not?

That's just great.

Who is "making" you buy an iPhone? I don't want a 6" phone, so I will not buy one. If they discontinue everything except that size, I guess I'll use my 5S until it no longer works then look elsewhere.

The price has to be on par with the competition devices.

That is it. Apple is no longer in the dominant technological position to demand higher premium pricing for their products over the competition who is regularly adding more and more capabilities to their device.

From the rumors I've seen on potential new features and sizes, I don't see any wow factor that would make me happy to pay an extra $100.

if they make a larger phone that i can still hold and work with only one hand and it includes all the usual upgrades to the camera and A8, iOS 8, etc, I could probably handle an increase for on contract. Off contract it would be harder to justify.

Please do not make a phone that requires two hands like samsung - that alone would be a deal breaker for me. Doing that and increasing the price -- for the love of all that is good in the world, don't do it Tim; don't do it.
I understand that, for whatever reason, you want a small screen. That said you are in a vast, shrinking minority. Screens smaller than 5" are simply not going to satisfy the masses...the large screen smartphone is a new standard, Apple either joins, or gets left behind.

We've already had price increases for the last two updates in the UK.

The 16G model went from £499 (4S) to £529 (5) to £549 (5S). Another £80 on top would be pushing it.

Let's hope this rumour isn't true.

1GB ram...there is already enough low memory app crashes...what is wrong with these people.

I really have no idea what's wrong with analysts.

The Galaxy Note 3 is $300 + a plan. If Samsung can get away with selling their Note 3 for that price, Apple can sell a much higher quality large iPhone for the same price.

The iPhone 5s off contract is $650. Comparable off contract Android devices are $700 (HTC One M8; Galaxy S 5). This gives Apple wiggle room upwards in price. Yes, some consumers will complain but people would still complain even if Apple gave iPhones away with no strings attached.

If 32GB isn't the bottom end, then fail. 16GB needs to go.

What happened to getting more storage we go on like hard drives and everything else tech?

16GB has been the bottom end since 2007!

Agreed, I'm on a windows phone and its cheaper then the iPhone as the same features (especially with 8.1 loaded) and it has most of my apps. I miss some of the things of iOS but not a lot.

My point - why pay more $$ when the competition is doing the same thing for less.

Capabilities that don't even work right half the time.

It's possible that they are working with exotic manufacturing processes like that liquid metal and sapphire glass, which is fairly expensive in terms of R&D and manufacturing, and so will jack up the price of the iPhone for now.
