Hello Android :)

I thought Mobile carriers had the last say in this..

While Apple still makes the products, the mobile carriers are the ones you connect to use such devices.

People can be cute with threats to abandon iOS and switch to Android, but we know you're not going to do that. So what if you have to pay $100 more for the best smartphone on the market later this year? You'll pay a whole lots more if you switch to another platform and have to buy all your apps, books, movies and tv shows on a different platform. That's the lock-in baby, and hundreds of millions of iOS device owners are locked in for good. :D

So it'll actually cost you more to switch to Android. Add in all those nasty security risks and subpar user experiences and are you still thinking that $100 price rise is not worth paying? :)

Bottom line a profitable Apple is good for all of us. It ensures the team can continue investing in and creating best of breed products across multiple categories that thrill us all.

I'll be happy to pay $100 for the new iPhone later this year, and I'm sure 99.99% of current iPhone owners will feel the same.

Words from a user smoking the same stuff that apple does.

$100 more. Jony's iOS 7. I can't resist!!!
Samsung here I come.
I know you're joking (mostly), but don't run to Samsung. TouchWiz is still a horrid Android experience, even with their recent tweaks. The ONLY acceptable way to use Android is via a Nexus phone/tablet.

You're high, lol.

I switched over to a Nexus 5 because of how crashy iOS 7 is on my 5S. It's terrible. I may switch back to the iPhone in time but I wanted to see how life was on the other side.

how are you liking it? I love my Nexus 5

Honestly, I think Apple is just late to the party. They probably didn't think that the larger phones were going to be as popular as they are and it takes them a longer time to bring something to market than some of the other companies.

Are the larger Android phones the most popular ? Isn't this a case of "the only available high quality phones are the larger ones" ? So that's why they are popular.
Because maybe the Android companies don't know how to manufacture expensive high powered small phones ? I'm guessing it's harder to cram larger batteries, powerful quad core processors in very small phones.

Are there expensive small Android phones with the same specs with the larger ones ?

I haven't seen any statistics for small screen vs large screen phones here in the US. From what I have seen, the Wndows phones are 4.5"+, as are most of the Android phones. Even the $199 Moto G is 4.5". The Samsung Galaxy and Note series are probably the best selling Android phones and they are also Samsung's top end models, so you may have a point there. The iPhone isn't noted for it's battery life and a larger phone does allow for a larger battery. I don't see any manufacturer trying to make the most powerful phone as small as possible, Apple included.

----------

Both the GS5 and the HTC One M8 are $300.

Here in the US they are both $199.

There's just too much competition and good phones out there. If Apple ups the price, they're just getting greedy and will reduce the overall interest in the iPhone 6. Its a huge mistake imo

People will buy the phone they LIKE best regardless of the price.

It is way too important to skimp on.

Face it, your phone = your life.

Following this logic, ipad mini retina with 3g, starts at 500$ , and has 7.9 inch display. Therefore, iphone 6 with 4.7 inch should cost 300-400$ non-subsidized

It's funny how you americans find 100$ increase a bummer. As you should. But here in Europe, we pay way more. Even on contracts. I've paid mine iPhone 5s about 400€ with 2 year contract. Almost the price for your unlocked version :D

And I also think I'm gonna switch from Apple if they stick with 1GB ram memory. But not to Samsung, used their phones in the past, don't want that experience anymore. I'm gonna go for Xiaomi, friend has one and it's great.

1GB is simply not enough anymore. But Apple be Apple, too greedy.

Sony Z1 Compact. A fantastic phone.
And Xiaomi mi2s, even tough it's a little bit older, but still a great phone for a silly price.

How many electronic devices do you have with sapphire screens now?

This is something I don't really understand as far as comments. People willing to accept $100 for (only) a sapphire screen. Do you think it's that magical to resist breaking, scratching, etc? I think it might be "better" - but is that really worth $100?

In my opinion it is worth an extra 100 dollars, imagine not ever having a single scratch on your phone? No more screen covers, worrying about keys being in the same pocket of my phone. I know how expensive this technology is and how it would differentiate the iphone even more.

I'm okay with it as long as it plays with the new iWatch, I use a Suunto Ambit that ran me 500.00, I would love to replace this with something user friendly and have it sync with my phone. So it really depends on the feature set of the 6, as far as a price increase is concerned.

The "lock-in" argument is getting thinner by the day - the only lock-in you have is on apps, for all the other categories (music, books, movies, tvshows, etc.) there is an alternative.

But lets face it, if you can shell out another $100,= for an upgrade than the value of your apps too will not be the biggest hurdle to take.

If I can't get a subsidized 64GB iPhone 6 for $300 or less this year, then there is NO way I'm upgrading. Simple as that.

There is NO WAY that I will upgrade to an iPhone 6 if they don't lower the price by at least $73, add in a $150 iTunes gift card, a MacBook Pro (17 inch), some land property on an island in the Carribean and a gift certificate for one organ transplant of my choice.

Seems like I will switch. Yep.

Thank you. Sony Z1 Compact really looks like a fantastic phone.
- Not expensive
- 20.7 megapixel camera with Sony Exmor RS for mobile image sensor
- Waterproof, you can make movies underwater - this is great

A website article said that you really can't find high end small Android phones, but it seems that's not true anymore. It's not very small, but with the 4.3 display I guess it is very close to an iphone. I still prefer the iphone 5 and 4s design, but the Sony is definitely not ugly.
