what happens if you have a case that covers the logo
Something like my current 6S+ case would allow for the finger id on the Apple logo. I have an LG V40 with a sensor on the back. It has a case with a cutout for the fingerprint sensor and cameras. Here's my 6S+ case from the rear - also has camera and Apple cutout.

Apple can keep faceID instead of forcing it on users, the fingerID worked perfect with no complaints and we didn't have to pay more or deal with the notch. FaceID is like the touchbar of the MBP, forced on you without asking for it.
This was a similar argument by many (like me) who wanted to retain the phone jack. People who preferred bluetooth headphones and speakers were not inconvenienced by the phone jack. They didn't use it, but what harm did a 3.5 mm jack do that offended them so? Don't know, but once the jack was removed, no one with nice wired headphones could make use of them with iPhones without some weird, latency enhancing dongle. Wired headphones still outperform wireless by an order of magnitude, especially at the mid- to high-end. Apple just isn't interested in high end sound playback. Even with headphone jacks, my PC laptops (Linux onboard) have superior DACs to the one in my iMac. Ditto for my LG V40 compared to my iPhone 6S+. For sound, I've left Apple. I'd buy another iPhone if it had a phone jack and touch id, and I bet I'm not alone in that regard. With all that "outdated" technology, they could sell it as a cheaper alternative to the X... lines. We jack loving finger fetishers would still at least be able to find something we could use with iOS rather than Android. Oh well ...

That's a valid point and it did strike my mind. Maybe just use cases with a cut out in the back that allows access to the apple logo. But I can see why everyone wouldn't like that.

How about making that Apple logo into a Touch ID sensor? It's the natural way to hold your phone and it's always within reach. Just saying..
been saying this for years

Cutouts for the logo. It wouldn't be an only way to unlock just an additional option you can use.
