iPhone app binaries 'contain' iPad versions and just adapt to whatever software identifier they are given. It shouldn't require any work to have iPhone on the outside, iPad in the middle from devs.

Add four years followed by “they decided not to”. He’s paid because he gets attention which means folks view their ads.
I'm very skeptical. We have had the same phone design for the 12 through the 17 (Except for the Air of course). I guess they have to guess the customers something different eventually but Apple seems to be in no hurry to do so and I don't have much hope in Apple anymore.
On the other hand.....I still think its funny that they are going to copy Samsung's failed edge design phone after all these years lol. Ok, so they will put a curved edge on the top and bottom also and not just the sides but I just don't see it working that well. There is a reason Samsung abandoned that design and Apple users are about to find out.

I had one curved edge phone a few years ago, I would never want one again. Its a negative thing with no advantages as you said.

It doesn’t make sense, because it would mean running two versions (iPadOS and iOS) of the same app on a single device. How would those two versions manage their state when the user switches between inner and outer screen? How would the average user understand that these are really two separate instances of the app? For example, after logging into an account in the iOS version of the app on the outer screen, the iPadOS version on the inner screen would still be logged out, or logged into a different account. Data you entered in one version wouldn’t be automatically available on the other version. And which of the two would handle push notifications for the app? Would you get every notification twice? Would Settings have two entries for each such app, one for the iOS version and one for the iPadOS version? It would be super confusing for anyone but power users.

Let's hope so, the 17 and 18 Pros are cheap and ugly and nothing but a 16 pro in a cheaper wrapper.

And if you use a case, it will cover the edges, anyway. I've always found iPhones to be too slick to trust myself not to accidentally lose my grip on one without a case.
That's me. All that 'coolness' would be covered by my case. Anyone buying this phone would not use a case. It would be a showcase phone for them. A fashion statement of sorts. That's so not me.
A wrap around display would require the phone to be constructed out of a material that was durable enough to no longer require a case, and to survive drops onto concrete etc without damage under normal conditions. To me that would be more interesting than the display.

Foldable, smooth wraparound display, no ports, etc. Many different ways to make a fashion statement, but, not what a lot of us require. Practically speaking, we need something that is functional inside a protective case. And the case will be protective enough so that the phone is not harmed when dropped 4 feet onto asphalt or concrete. I can say with total certainty that I will never buy a cell phone that can't be protected from a 4 foot drop.
Yes, the technology required to do portless smooth sculptures that happen to work as cell phones is amazing and indistinguishable from magic. But, if they want to do some real magic, make these devices more robust when dropped.
OBTW, those 2009-2012 15"-17" MBPs with, depending, combinations of magsafe power Dual-link DVI and/or FW 1.x-2.0 2-3 USB-A TB1-2 audio in/out SPDIF MiniDP SDXC -- now, those were "magic". How about anniversary edition MBPs and Minis with a full complement of -ports-?
Though to be fair, you can't accuse Apple of shifting the goal post when then haven't announced ANY of these things.
From what I read, the eu regulation only applied to the charging port and not to anything else. Such as wireless charging. It doesn't apply too.
As I pondered this new phone having only wireless charging it made me wonder if they'll ever release one that can wirelessly charge even with a thick wallet case on.
EDIT: After doing a search it seems there are a few chargers out there that actually can work through a thick wallet case.

I have decided to stick with IPhone. Might wait until 2027 to upgrade. I like the idea of an edge to edge iPhone. I have always wanted that.
That first mock up image is horrible and impractical. Edges will get dinged. People will have cases... so what's the point of the edge being a screen?

That means it will meet Apple's #1 design specification:
"Must perform well in superficial demo scenarios where the words 'stunning' and 'beautiful' are used." 🤣
And there's a place for that, as long as they also make the models that are more practical and affordable. The "show off" devices do two things: they generate positive buzz and they try out new tech ideas that might make their way to practical devices in the future.

Never understood this obsession of losing bezels. At some point the phone has to float on its own just to be able to see the whole screen without obstructing fingers. Apple... forget about edgeless, just keep the bezels. Keep the iPhone simple and rugged. Making it foldable only increases the risk for damage. It's easier to make a smaller model.
Bring back the mini !!!! No need to fold it only to let it fit in your pocket again.
This is already the case if you use without a case. My 15 pro is constantly registering touch just from holding, my palm or fingers slightly touching the edge of the screen. Id love to to go slightly larger bezels. The gimmick of small bezels becomes invisible after a moment of using the phone, but the usability impact of those small bezels is constant.
