I think in some time we'll see news of Apple scraping the entire Vision product line... Horrible product unless they can make the cheaper model less than $1500
Of course they can’t do that. This space is actually real and will replace a lot of what we do today, it’s not going to be a niche market like the Apple Watch. They must find a way to make it affordable or to make it be worth 7 times more than the competition

It’s not gonna be anything more than a niche unless the form factor gets dramatically more pleasant, fashion conscious and enjoyable to use

Since it is a companion device anyways, it really shouldn’t be bearing the brunt of the hardware processing. Something with a swim goggle-like form factor that is focused on just the display component while the iPhone or Mac handles the processing. The Vision Pro should be nothing more than the optical equivalent to the AirPods. I suspect Apple has already figured this out or will figure this out. This thing is just trying to do too much in a small space.

Not sure this will happen... Unless they can fit a R1 co-processor into a phone. No phone can process the amount of different sensors it carries.

Apple currently see / position the AVP as an AIO computer, like a laptop or iPad, not as a monitor (or, more like a Meta Quest than an HTC Vive).

From the discussion here, it sounds like one of the AVP's 'killer apps' is to act as a large virtual monitor / cinema screen. But Apple are trying to create something much grander - a platform, with (monetisable) apps, to ultimately take over from the iPhone when that runs out of steam. Not just a fancy monitor to plug a MacBook or PS5 into.

Wow this article is almost 3 days old and the comment section is at page 22 and still going strong (although it looks like it may be slowing down today). Has Apple ever released a product that elicited this much debate? If not, what is it about this product that is so conviction-stirring and polarizing?
have you even seen the level of discussion when reddit removed 3rd party API access? That thread went on for months, this is nothing in comparison! So glad reddit finally won and got rid of apollo

And that will happen in she short term, the question if Apple is going to do it or will let the competition surpass him like in the personal assistant space

I've never considered buying a 1st gen device, i believe every product they make for the first time is a test. they work all the flaws for the real product they want to introduce at some point in the future, I think the vision pro isn't convenient to be used regularly during the day or even work. we might see a device that will merge some devices together (vision pro + iPad + apple tv + Mac) maybe some kind of good looking glasses .... we'll wait and see.

can't believe there has been 20 pages and many are simply seeing this as vision pro has failed just because they are focusing on a cheaper model.

Gurman said months ago a vision pro 2 would be pushed back to focus on the cheaper model. this tech isn't going away it's just the start of developing this tech

So one "analyst" claims the next Apple Vision Pro will be cheaper while another "analyst" claims they're pausing the Apple Vision Pro 2 in favor of the non-Pro Apple Vision
Setting aside the fact that this is basically reading tea leaves aren't the essentially talking about the same product?

There's no way Apple was actually thinking about releasing a second AVP for a cheaper price, they were always gonna release a non-pro version that's more affordable
Why are we giving legitimacy to people essentially making **** up based on educated guesses on what Apple is going to do?

😂😂 they aren’t scraping something that cost them like millions to create

It’s not a horrible product it’s just a horrible price which isn’t even close to being the same

This Vision Pro was never intended to sell out. It’s the start of what the future may look like. The next version clearly is marketed at a more affordable market in that 1600-2K range where many will buy it.

It’s a slow start to something better down the line. It’s not close to being a finished product and won’t be for most people for a while

This is certainly a tech enthusiast device to try and see what comes next

If you have never experienced it, you should just ****. It is an amazing device packed with amazing technology. It is by far the best way to consume movies. 3D movies are actually enjoyable and 360 immersive content is downright stunning. Cheaper than a high-end TV and better image quality. Makes every flight feel like business class. You can carry your widescreen 34-inch monitor with you everywhere. Coffee shop, hotel room, airport lounge, you name it. VR googles also transform gaming and fitness (but that is what Quest does for 1/7th of the price and half of the weight).

What Apple needs is to make it lighter (remove the silly front glass screen), cheaper, and more compact. Just getting rid of the speaker horns and replacing them with flexible or foldable component will make it fit into a normal briefcase and allow you to actually carry it with you.

I wonder how many of the people around here who are bemoaning the so-called isolation of VR headsets have actually experienced watching video on an Apple Vision Pro.

Earlier today, I watched the "Battle of the Bastards" episode of Game of Thrones on my AVP. I watched it on the Max app using the Iron Throne Room immersive environment. The experience of watching one of the best episodes of one of my favoriate TV series in that environment far surpassed any experience I have had watching TV in a conventional home theater. It's not even close.

Does that mean I'll become a shut in, isolating myself from the rest of the world 24/7? No. But there's nothing wrong with a little escapism. And the AVP is an incredible entertainment device. It's not going to sell in large numbers at $3500. But if Apple can get the price down while preserving the visual quality, I can see this becoming the "walkman for the eyes" that at least some of us has been waiting for.

I agree with you. It’s a great experience watching video if you can tolerate wearing it that long.

But this isn’t hard to do. Meta could solve for it in quest 4 jumping back to oled with lg and getting the usual streamer apps. And at a much lower price along with games. Google and Samsung are still rumored for one using Sony micro oled and Qualcomm chip.

I’d rather wait and see before spending 3500 for sure. No rush. But regardless Apple will need something other than video as the lure. Ecosystem sure but there’s no games and the avp just isn’t made for them. Then that price. If avp cost 2k to make and apple has to mark that up 1500 then I’m guessing it’ll always be overpriced and a hard sale.

The Vision Pro haters are on suicide watch. It seems reports of the product’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. From Mark Gurman’s latest edition of Power On:

… Apple already has been working on such a device for years, aiming to sell something for $1,500 to $2,000. The plan was always to introduce the Vision Pro at the high end, and then roll out the cheaper model — let’s call it the Apple Vision — sometime afterward.

This cheaper device, codenamed N107, is now the focus of Apple’s Vision Products Group. The company hopes to bring that product to market as early as the end of 2025 — a plan that’s been in place since before the Vision Pro was first unveiled last year.

The company has no plans to abandon the high end of the headset market, but this second-generation Vision Pro will take longer to arrive. Months ago, the company shifted a planned 2025 release to the end of 2026 at the earliest, as I reported in April.

Meanwhile, the company has renewed efforts to develop AR-only glasses. These would be lightweight spectacles that users could easily wear all day, and they’ve long been a holy grail for the tech industry. But it’s still early days. Though a launch date around 2027 has been bandied about, no one I’ve spoken to within Apple believes the glasses will be ready in a few years.

No one 'hates' the AVP, let alone feels suicidal about the prospect of a second version. Most people are indifferent, and have largely forgotten about it. Those on the forum who dislike it mainly do so as they see it as a waste of time, and a distraction from concentrating on products they'd actually want to buy.

At the end of the day, Apple are a massive corporation that's expected to demonstrate constant growth. They're not stupid, and understand that minor iterations of the iPhone won't maintain the current trajectory forever.

Apple are doing the right thing in trying to create new product categories, it's just that this type of device is too ahead of the curve. It's like the Newton in the 90's, not the iPhone in 2007. The 'spectacles' AR product would require revolutionary technologies on many fronts; it won't be an evolution of the current AVP.

I doubt anyone unimpressed with the current AVP will be excited by a feature-reduced version at $2000. Except perhaps those intending to use one as a personal movie theatre / virtual huge monitor.

this has always been the case though.

this thread is a joke really as the cheaper version was always the road map after the vision pro release. apple knows it needs to be alot cheaper for most people to consider it. vision pro was getting the tech out the door and going from step to step to improve the tech. it's the starting point for a level of tech good enough to range glasses form long in the future

This is the device they be should rushing out

A lot of people would find actual usefulness out of this product (assuming the price is reasonable)

A super compact and lightweight personal movie theater/screen that could be driven by your iOS or Mac device would be exceptionally interesting.

I’ll stick to my original prediction that a second generation in any form won’t see the light of day.

Only way this thing sells is if it drops to £500 same as most VR headsets currently available.

It’s a basic VR headset they’re trying to ham up as something special.

It’s often the case that people in the same space are watching / reading different things on different devices (phones, tablets etc.). Watching the same thing together on multiple VR headsets, in a virtual movie theatre, could potentially be more communal than a typical living room situation, as everyone would at least be engaging with the same content, with no distractions (unless you opened secondary windows I guess...).

The existing creepy AVP style avatars would be fine in such a situation, as you'd be watching the content 99% of the time, with only the occasional sideways glance to others. Hardly a use case that warrants multiple $1K+ headsets (just deciding on content everyone's interested in would mostly be as effective, and would be necessary anyway), but perhaps a silver lining. A sort of enforced immersion / isolation, like being in a cinema - so you're not able / tempted to do anything else at the same time. It would only work in full VR, not AR, though. Not much point if you can still look at your phone.

We'll definitely get something better than what we have now. This is how tech works, right? And, anyway, Apple Vision will be lighter, and more affordable than Vison Pro - so arguably it's 'better' in some ways.

And after another generation, the follow-up Apple Vision will provide a much better experience than the original Vision Pro, with faster SOCs, etc. So it's all good!
...
I've never heard anyone complain the vision pro was slow or laggy.

I’ll take that bet.
