Apple WILL NOT release a 12.9" iPad because that would just be stupid. I CAN imagine a HYBRID between the MacBook Air and iPad that has this larger screen and some type of built in (possibly removable) keyboard/screen protector (much like the MS Surface keyboard) for the business people who insist on having a tactile keyboard. Imagine a Macbook Air running iOS7 but even thinner and you'll get the picture.

Steps in the right direction, but they’re not there yet. That’s not to say they won’t release something fantastic that addresses all finger related usability issues at WWDC. In fact, I bet they probably will, since a tablet that size needs a desktop quality os to be tempting. But they will not throw OSX on there as it is. Because that would be terrible.

Agreed, there are some fundamental interface issues to work out. I'm sure somewhere in Cupertino there is a lab full of people testing out touch-enabled OS X right this moment.

Apple has a tendency of sneaking things in and not making a big deal about it until later on, and then when it's announced, suddenly everything makes sense. When they introduced the iPad, for example, we all instantly already knew how to use it because we were so used to the iPhone.

So if/when they introduce a touch-enabled OS X, I suspect we'll say "Aha! So THAT's what that feature was really for." (Again, I point to Launchpad.)

for what? A tablet doesn't needs file system!!

And about the size, i'm trying to wonder how will be typing on this device... With this size (and price) i will prefer an Air better.

I agree with you that a file system is not necessary for 95% of things we do.

What about writing codes?

Am I in the minority who wants a large iPad to replace the laptop? As I see it, laptop has no future.

This would work really well with my e-textbooks. My school forces us to use ebooks, and 9.7 is just a bit too small and I am constantly zooming, scrolling, etc. A 12" work work great as a text book substitute.

Completely agree! Zooming should be kept to a minimal.

On a side note, I foresee a generation of people learning to type again with two fingers. I have been writing a lot on iPad, and truthfully I don't mind the two finger pecking.

Indeed. Add a Wacom pen with very high precision and a very responsive PDF annotater app - and you don't need to print ebooks any more if you want to annotate them.

This is what doesn't really work on a 10" screen, not even with Wacom. Back in the day, I used to use Windows tablets (with Wacom) like the legendary 10" HP TC1100 to annotate PDF books. While the Wacom support has been great on that model, the screen was just too small (in addition to the device being slow), which was the main reason for my ditching it as a PDF annotater.

Kinda like how the 13" MBA isn't more interesting than an 11" MBA, or 15" rMBP isn't more interesting than a 13" rMBP, or a 27" iMac isn't more interesting than a 21" iMac? Point being, for the Mac line, you have many Macs, one OSX that scales through all the sizes. You pick the device based on the hardware capabilities and screen size that YOU need.

There's no stopping Apple from doing the same with the iPads - many iPads, one iOS. It might not be interesting but not out of the realm of possibility.

That's a slightly different scenario with the MBAs. When you think of tablets, the first thing that comes to mind is their light weight and ease of use. It's one of their major selling points. It's a given that a 12" iPad is gonna be a bit heavier and a little less comfortable to hold than the smaller models. So if all things were equal save for size, an iPad Pro wouldn't offer any particularly compelling reasons to choose it over an Air or a Mini.

But if Apple were to throw a stylus digitizer on it, give it a couple more GB of ram, and a higher clocked processor, it'd be able offer something the others don't besides more screen, which isn't all that necessary by itself. While you're sacrificing a bit of comfort, you're gaining a more powerful, capable machine in the process.

I would love a bigger iPad. Would be a great productivity tool...

...If Apple got iOS right. I'm not sure the Mac OS would work in an iPad. But just using the current, iPhone-based iOS, would be a massive failure (can someone imagine having the little folders in a 12.9 inch iPad?).

I would really like real multitasking and real productivity apps. Without those, though, just a bigger size wouldn't be that interesting.

I never thought a 12" iPad would be possible or useful, but having experienced of missing the ability to use the iPad like a a yellow pad of paper for scratching notes, I'm looking forward to what Apple does in the space.

It will require that I purchase a larger man-purse.

Well, I was about to be against it, but then I tried holding my MacBook Air's screen as an iPad, and... HOLY CRAP I WANT IT!!!!!

I soooo want this to be something like that new Asus tablet/laptop combo device. Grab the screen and go as if it were an iPad.

If Apple convinced all Mac users to drop their Macs for iPads, that would only be 20% improvement in sales, and a huge drop in revenue and profit. Convincing all PC users to drop their PCs for iPads would be a massive improvement in sales.

Only that you can't do any general productive work on a 10" or 12" tablet, and you never will due to the limitations of the input method and the screen size.
i devices are fine for read-only use and a helpful crutch for some typing when you're on the road, that's what they were designed for and that's what they are good at. But they will never replace computers that are used for other purposes, or your productivity would go through the floor.

If the only tool you use to solve problems is a hammer, all problems look like nails.

Now if Apple could come up with a tool that could act as hammer AND screwdriver, that would be a different story.

iOS doesn't necessarily need a "file system" but it would be nice to be able to organize things better. App submenus within app submenus. Photo albums within albums. That could be done using traditional folders that are hidden behind-the-scenes or via hierarchical tagging. But having everything in one flat list view all the time breaks down when you have lots of items, like thousands of photos.

I love the concept but unless it can connect to a Thunderbolt display it won't replace my Air, hybrid OS or not. I do hope we see that in a few years--an iPad that can drive a large monitor and use a mouse and keyboard. It's the ultimate first world problem to HAVE to carry around and Air and an iPad, but still. It would be cool to only use one.

iPad Pro runing iOS is not needed. It should be able to boot up to OSX, otherwise, forget it. I think regular iPad should also be able to boot up to OSX. Only iPad Mini should stay with iOS

But if Apple were to throw a stylus digitizer on it

"Who wants a stylus? you lose them, yuckh"

I am waiting for the 25.9" iPad HyperPro.

12+ " tablets seem unwieldly. For optimum use you seem to need a dock and a keyboard. I love my phone and ipad mini, in fact they have replaced 95% of my normal computer use, but I find even the iPad/iPad air factor a bit large in some circumstances.

My original apple ii rip off franklin ace came with a 13" monochrome monitor. Obviously this would be much, much thinner and lighter but still not sure.

I guess these would be good for fixed displays, wall mounts etc and not necessary mobile devices.

Yeah, huge.. All the same products with small spec bumps. And the same trick they have been doing for years, stretch the screen a bit more and call it revolutionary. :p

Oh and that watch I don't really care about.

Wat. There has only been one ios screen size bump ever

Enough of this nonsense. A big-assed iPad with iOS for enterprise users. It's like putting a Honda Civic engine in a Lamborghini. If Apple thinks size is the only reason they haven't gone beyond the kiddie market then somebody there needs to hit the road.

I don't think you understand the enterprise market nor do you understand arm processors.
