2. Install Linux on your desktop
3. Install CM or Ubuntu Touch on your mobile device
4. Spin up your own server (or VPS) running Linux or BSD
5. Install OwnCloud or Syncthing on your server
6. Ditch Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo and set up your own Dovecot/Postfix email server
7. Polish your tinfoil hat and try to convince others to do so.

Otherwise, stop whinging. No vendor of proprietary software has *your* interests at heart unless you are a major shareholder.

Making money and caring about customers/clients/users's privacy is not an oxymoron. Some companies make money off of that data (looking at you Google) but MANY don't (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavabit).

Oh, I did. All of the patents had Chinese names on them. I guess they don't put those patents on display that they might have acquired.
