I’m going to catch some hate on this….

I get the NFL is the most popular sport here in the US, but Apple would have succeeded in getting more subscriptions by going after UEFA. After all, Fútbol (Soccer) is the world’s most popular sport.

And let’s face it, the NFL won’t bend down and loosen its restrictions.
I’m a football (Soccer) fan. Believe me I think Apple should get as many streaming rights for football as they can. They already have with the MLS, and I can’t see how they won’t in future with both UEFA competitions, and certainly Premier League competitions. Just this week here in the U.K. it was reported that the EFL was considering dropping the Saturday 3pm TV blackout rule and allowing every match to be viewable in their next round of broadcast rights sell off. If that is true then Apple amongst others should rightfully be all over that.

In saying this, the NFL is a massive sport in the US which is Apple domestic market, and some would say where the majority of their products, and services are targeted. It would be unwise to suggest they go after every sport in the world and neglect the NFL. Even here in the U.K. the NFL is growing in popularity. Ok we probably don’t have diehard fans, but more casual viewers, Super Bowl viewing parties are now a thing over here, and you can now see people occasionally walk around in NFL merchandise. I’m so sick of seeing Patriots, Packers, and LA Rams stuff over other teams.

Collectively, the value of NFL franchises, including team-related businesses and real estate held by owners, is $132 billion. The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in football and across all of sports at $7.64 billion, $630 million ahead of MLB's Yankees. (Aug 1 2022)
If you are talking about each team owners wealth then I’m sorry but my teams (Newcastle United) owners absolutely takes that all apart. They have a total worth of approximately $1.5 trillion.
Accounting for owners wealth, we are the richest sports team in the world.

Get yourself the jersey of the next NFL Super Bowl winner, the Eagles

You are correct, but to be fair 95% of the world's population doesn't watch it either 🤷🏻‍♂️
You are correct, but to be fair that 5% of the world's population is worth $110 billion in TV rights. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The Top 100 live events on US TV still haul in more money than ever before. Guess what the vast majority of content aired during those live events? American Football.

Apple is right to push back against local blackouts, which is stupid gatekeeping nonsense that pre-dates the internet.

The NFL is not going to streaming control to Apple. I don’t believe the deal will go through.

It would not be surprising if Directv ended up with it again, they certainly love giving out free Sunday ticket subscriptions as a method to keep subscribers, they give them out free even when you never ask them for it.

I don’t know how it is in each possible situation with each individual station/sport, but I have noticed in the past that you often can’t stream from certain apps like FOX or CBS unless you log into your cable/satellite/streaming account. This can be particularly true for sports. Some of them offer free steaming of their station, but when I have tried to watch college basketball/football on network apps that offer free streams of their network, they tell you that the live event you want to watch isn’t available.

You can always watch your local stations with an antenna for free, but that is location dependent. If you aren’t near enough to the city that your local affiliates broadcast in, that isn’t necessarily an option.

On a related subject, I live in Connecticut, which is in the Jets/Patriots “home market” but have problems all the time due to blackouts and station availability. The Patriots and Jets will both play at 1pm on CBS… and the Patriots are the team that is shown. Yet a long time ago when I had Sunday Ticket, I couldn’t even watch the Jets, because I was in their home market even though CBS literally was showing the Patriots. They did fix that particular scenario years ago, but sometimes blackouts can be a pain in the ass. Same for the Knicks. I am in their home market, but YouTube TV doesn’t carry MSG. If they play on say MSG locally and NBATV nationally, I will be blacked out on NBATV, despite not having access to MSG…
madness. this DEFINITELY needs to be sorted out if Apple gets onboard lol.

Currently most local sports bars have DirecTV and Sunday Ticket. Many that I know of would probably need to shell out a lotta bucks for Wi-Fi upgrades since in many you can barely update a web page. Will Apple provide sports bars with some sort of commercial version of the Apple TV that supports multiple screens or will they need one for every screen?

I don't like baseball. Haven't watched in years. Let's get rid of baseball. Oh, I don't like soccer either. Let's get rid of it.
Their comment was ignorant but in all fairness, that was kind of the point. They profess not to understand the NFL’s value because they don’t watch it. No one said anything about getting rid of any services except for your sarcastic reply.
