it’s a novelty idea for me.. fun for a few days and then pointless. you cant beat old fashioned laptop
Yes, exactly! Old = gold!

With some things, and laptops are one of them, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Apple tried doing exactly that with the touchbar, butterfly, and fan-less Intel Mac designs, and it didn't work out. Maybe just stick to the tried and true designs of yore?

Steve Jobs and Apple have been absolutely right to date, why mess it up now? A lap top is not designed for touch screen it's not natural and u have a screen full of greasy finger marks 😡
It will sell as well as the 14 + 🤣

I was a Surface Pro early adopter. it was super cool on paper, but once you got the keyboard/trackpad cover and a wireless mouse, my fingers never touched that screen. At that point it's basically.... a laptop.....

Tablet mode wasnt as ideal either since there weren't many Windows 8 Metro apps and the desktop was obviously not optimized for it. Windows 10 didnt solve any of this either, if anything it made the touch experience even worse. So unless Apple starts making some major design overhauls to macOS, this wont fare as well either.

Yep this is it. The end of Apple dominance as the best and brightest. It’s been showing in numerous ways the past several years. They are now being led by people with a lack of logic and high intellect.

Sad to see Apple go from the absolute best to retreading to old and terrible ideas. There’s no getting it back either, once it’s over it’s over. The transition already started many years ago and now you’re starting to see the leaks in the ship.

Look at notifications on iOS 16 moving to the bottom of the screen. Simply embarrassingly stupid. Look at the new iOS 16 dictation microphone that pops up overtop of text so you can’t even see to read back what it entered when you’re checking for mistakes it might’ve made.

So many incredibly incredibly stupid moves. Moving to ads now because that’s all they’ve got left to do. Pushing their absolute garbage services. Not even increasing iCloud to 10GB after nearly a decade at 5GB. An iPhone with square edges which is horrible ergonomic design compared to what they had before it. Now rumors that they’re changing the back edge to rounded again. Absolutely hilarious and sad. The Dynamic Island that is a worthless and highly distracting gimmick. Border bezels that are at least 2x larger than Samsung’s. Switching the mechanical buttons to solid-state and in doing so, having to add 2 additional space-consuming Taptic Engine’s for…. Meanwhile if a user has a case on their phone they won’t even remotely feel like they pushed a button because the Taptic vibration will disperse through the case and just feel like a vague vibration all over.

Because everything in the OS is going to be dumbed-down (even further) for morons using their thumbs instead of a pointing device. We don’t need an inch of dead space around every UI control.
Agreed. Take a look at Windows 8+ UI. Why even in Windows 11 is there so much whitespace in Settings? Windows 10 is even worse. On a 32" 4K monitor, why is 40% whitespace when I look at settings? And more items are locked behind more windows where it COULD be placed in the main view to begin with?

The newest laptops have been the best ones since 2015. Macs have never been greater now than before since 2010. But yes, this will be the Touch Bar all over. I will get the absolute last of the current style of laptops like I did in 2015.

Why is everyone complaining? It's not like they're going to take away the trackpad. Just don't use the touch screen if you don't want to.
Did you ever experience windows 8’s tablet mode? I think a lot of folks are afraid of that

I doubt it would go down that way, but… yeah

Also touching your screen in vertical orientation is a recipe in arm fatigue, and it’s useless for clamshell + a dock

A better answer would be allowing iPad’s to run macOS and become real convertibles

I mean, it could be cool. Lets see if and how they pull it off.

It would already be similar to running an iPad with a Magic Keyboard docked on (which many people do) but running MacOS instead (which many iPad users wish was the case at time). All that but more robust.

And no detachable screen to really take advantage of the touch screen part…

We need a new direction, recycling or re - using old tech is not innovative. Especially when Apple markets it as their key feature.

Some of you realize that no one is forcing anyone to touch the screen. It will not be mandatory. You will be allowed not to touch it.
Options are good. Getting loopy because you do not want others to have choice is not.

They have been toying with this since pre-ipad days. They’ve even mentioned it. Nothing surprising about that. The only thing startling about it is the choice of words in this title,”Reportedly Working On…”

We all know they’ve made test devices trying it out - and continue to do so — so nothing has changed.

They told me I was crazy for wanting a large screen on a phone, then they tried to sell me one.
They told me I was crazy for wanting a small screen on a tablet, then they tried to sell me one.
They told me I was crazy for wanting a phone with wireless charging, then they tried to sell me one.
They told me I was crazy for wanting a laptop with a touchscreen, then...

yes, from Apple not anytime soon. But innovation does not wait for Apple anymore judging by the Lenovo hybrid shown at CES as reported by MacRumors.
there are still plenty of non Touch Windows PCs because they are cheaper to manufacture and many people dont need or want touch.

the more expensive Windows laptops I have I buy for the better screen res and faster processors. Sadly I'm also paying extra for touch I dont want or need. If they add this, I hope it is an extra cost item not the default spec.
