Apple are doomed. Face it guys, it's a fact...
The obligatory "haha look everyone says apple is doomed but they're clearly not" post we get every earnings call. We get it. People say they're doomed and they're not.

The new 'is safari snappier' post

You can measure sales with a pie chart but i remember when apple created demand and drove sales. When they made music cool and every single mac sold was next level. They drove demand to their product.

Now i feel like they follow the market and not drive it. Sure they force the market to change some things but i fell like they are becoming google and just following the next big buzz word; "autonomous cars", "wearables", "bigger displays".

Reality Check, boys!

Mac = +14% y/y revenue
Surface = -26% y/y revenue

Microsoft adopted the PowerBook 100 design pioneered by Apple and still being used this day.

Apple refused to put a TUI on macOS.
Why do you think surface is declining so hard?

I remember a lot of that. And people standing outside apple stores on launch day. And massive nationwide coverage of apple products where you could just feel the excitement. Now we're begging for spec bumps that we probably won't get. What's happened? It may be that we've slowed down and come to a kinda peak...or that apple is too complacent. Or that the next big thing to be excited about is an entirely new product because you can only look forward to the same iPhone and iPad updates for so long. If apple came out with their vision of where augmented reality is going, we might see that excitement come back.

I don't get it. I just don't get it.

I bet on mass purchases of 2015 MacBook Pro refurbs, short of a better alternative. ;)

My takeaway is there is about 3m unit carry forward to iPhone 8 expectations and the prior high unit sales was about 78m or so (I forget). So come October we will likely see 89m units all at high margin. Buy AAPL on any pullback. Accumulate slowly and be patient.
It'll drop like a rock until May 17th, where it will make a spectacular recovery, negating all my hopes of getting more shares with my DRIP from the dividends.

Hope that drives a point home that customers do NOT want to replace their computers with iPads after all.

Yup If Apple would get their heads out of their asses on a 2-in-1 I think they would kill it. I've had my HP 2-in-1 since the end of January and love it. Awesome screen, great performance and battery life and the touch screen on a laptop just works. Even the pen is great. Windows 10 is not as bad as some make it out to be. I really don't miss my Macbook Air at all and I was a Mac user since 2002....

If Apple put their magic on a 2-in-1 I'd be all over that. Until then it's probably Windows for me, which, as an Apple shareholder makes me sad.

He was hinting that a lower tax rate for repatriating their cash hoard would be a wonderful thing for America!

I don't think that's pandering to Trump. All he is saying is lower tax rates would help Apple keep even more money. Those are things shareholders like to hear. I don't think you'd hear any CEO that is concerned with the bottom line and their shareholders profit margin argue for a higher tax rate. He's running a corporation not a charity.

The purple 5% "Other" is cables. ;)
Apple TV, Apple Watch, headphones. Tim Cook said that Apple Watch + headphones would be enough revenue and profit to make it a Fortune 500 company if it was counted separately. (Known names: eBay at #300, Mattel at #450).

haha thats so crap. Apple better get a move on... Pro users have left the Building!
Mac sales went up by one percent, in a market that is generally dropping. Apple keeps its users, while many other companies don't.

Bottom line, the executives are making money hands-over-fists. They all live and work in the United States; benefiting from all the resources the US has to offer. Yet, they refuse to bring the profits they are banking overseas and pay taxes and pay dividends that they owe the investors.

They will when Trump lowers the tax rate. If you moved to Europe would you want to pay EU and USA taxes? Is it okay for everyone else to do the same, but not Apple? Get real.

Apple is basically a one trick pony. Not healthy for a company to rely so heavily on just one product like the iPhone as phones in general are becoming more of a commodity. All phones whether Android or iOS are becoming very similar these days.

I think you don't quite understand how that works. Apple has tons of cash outside of the USA. That cash belongs to the share holders. If Apple moves the cash to the USA _now_ and pays 30% tax on it, that's 30% tax on the money that belongs to the shareholders. Do you think shareholders will be happy?

Do you suggest Apple should stop selling phones to become a healthier company? Yeah, revenue evenly split between Macs, iPads, Services and "others" would be really healthy. I think Cook would prefer to double phone sales and make the company a lot "unhealthier" in your eyes.

I don't think you are understanding the repatriation part.

"company says it expects to spend a total $300 billion in cash under its overall capital return program by the end of March 2019"

This is what disgusts me about Tim Cook's Apple. The stock already pays dividends and grows at the same time. I bet they won't spend 1/10th of that amount on R&D. These shareholders are not loyal, they will sell the moment the iPhone sales fall. The fact that substantial percentage of what I spend on Apple products goes towards this purpose makes me sick, but dammit Steve Jobs built such a strong foundation with MacOS and iOS that there really isn't an alternative. Remember when the iPhone was announced, Apple only had $5 billion in the bank, imagine what they can actually do now if they actually tried.

Dollar cost averaging.

If you go to Google Finance and type in AAPL and click on daily chart (OHLC) format, you will see a gap in the beginning of February at about $120. One would expect the price to drop even momentarily to that level to fill that gap. Put a limit order at $122 and pray.

I find it hard to believe that anyone every really believed this. Tablets are a great supplementary device class, but they are not full fledged computers for most people.

Better believe it. Remember how enthused Apple's brass was during the iPhone SE unveiling last year? Bashing "sad 5 year old PCs" (of which the Mac Pro is turning into), and extolling the virtues of the iPad Pro as the logical next step for personal computing. Uh huh. Keep yapping, Tim and Phil.

Next to that, you'd find quite a few commenters defending Apple's silly twitter campaigning and overall change in direction. I was more surprised by Apple Store employees trying to sell me the same "I can do on an iPad whatever I do on a MacBook" idiocy, until I mentioned batch exporting on Lightroom, Final Cut comps and After Effects projects

if it was amazon or google who had a result like this, the stocks would be up with at least 5%

It is not Google nor Amazon - different corporations with different products / services / strategies

If If If - remember, if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle - but she doesn't and she is not.
