to me it looks like the iphone sales are flat and not growing. sure it went up 600k but that for iphone is flat
Stock up over 6% now after hours. Clearly Wall Street likes the numbers, especially guidance.

Figure 1 and 2 seem contradictory. For instance, in Fig. 1, top revenue comes from iPad (gray color) and then similar for other (purple) and iPhone (red), whereas on Fig. 2, it comes from iPhone (red) by huge difference with all the rest. How to explain that?

Even if sales were down Apple still makes a ton of margin selling devices with surplus components like 750p old gen LCD displays.
Yep, people are buying. It's a great thing that a company is producing a product people want to buy, while others want to throw the CEO out. Good job Tim.

That first chart is stacking the category revenues. The iPad being on top doesn't mean it has the largest revenue. Its revenue is represented only by the gray portion of the graph.

And yet MacRumors members claimed the new iPad was a dud and wouldn't sell. They claimed the new MacBook Pro was garbage and wouldn't sell. They claimed the lack of other new Macs meant Mac sales would be nothing. They claimed the iPhone 7 wouldn't sell because people were going to wait for the 8.

And as always MacRumors members were completely wrong.

Nonsense. I bought the 10.5 iPP and love it. I got my mom the new iPad -- different use cases, different products, different sales.

But I have to give you negative nancys credit, now you're complaining about cheap iPads. LOL

Exactly. Why do some always have to be negative.

Extreme difference between sell and like. They may have sold.. but how many hated the devices and resold them or returned them? Those numbers won't be mentioned today. Not saying your wrong but there's plenty of other factors in this game. At the end of the day Apple only reports numbers that make them look good. You're not going to see anything other than pat's on the back and bottom dollar totals..along with the same business model of hyping products prior to release such as the mention of homepod.

I think the iPad 5th Generation is a very good value for most consumers, so it doesn't surprise me that there has been a boost in iPad sales this quarter. I bought mine for $300, and it does everything I need in a tablet. My needs are pretty simple, but I can still use it for light productivity and some simple content creation.

Loved Tim's comment about a pause in upgrades. Have to a 100% agree with him there. Future-wise it's great because end users have stopped or are stopping the upgrade yearly routine, some what bad for Apple but then again putting it out there saying well we can see the pause and it's not terrible is definitely the way to say it. I'm one who will not upgrade to iPhone 8 even just based on rumors, I see nothing exciting about it. The last few devices have all been basically the same with very little changes or 1 big change only to see that not completely be followed through (portrait mode, another lost piece of the Apple puzzle, 7plus camera system). Software is beyond hurting and needs a major shake up going forward. iOS 11 iPad updates were pretty big, the phone.. not so much.

I'm not surprised by the iPad performance. I finally upgraded mine to the Pro after 4 years.

It's funny how offering a great product (iPad) at a lower price, results in increased revenue and sales.
Add to that, an iOS that has a decent file system makes the iPad truly productive in the eyes of many who saw it previously as just a consumption device.

I think a few things helped the sales. I only bought the new iPad because the 10.5" model had a slightly better price and iOS 11 looks like I'd be able to use it for more than just consumption, be that books and movies, et al. I wanted to be able to do more with it and iOS 11 looks like the step in the direction that will enable that.

I think the success of these products on going is tied to real innovation. And what I mean by that is that Apple up until now has been adding minor feature updates that didn't prompt me to buy anything. These iPad Pro models are expensive with pen and keyboard. The software needed to justify those things.

The effects of any returns are included in the financial numbers. If they don't report numbers that make them look bad, then the forecasts for the next quarter will turn out bad and kill their stock.

Yes in the numbers.. not discussion. You won't hear them say anything about those, which is a business tactic to just shadow the negative with positive totals. I get that, I'm not saying they are hiding anything...these meetings are always about pat's on the back, not grime and grit. But this is Apple post Steve Jobs we are talking about here, so easy street is what they are on these days. Wish they would push the envelope but you can't always have massive changes, I still like them as a company.

Tim said that the demand was slowing down because of the talk the future models are getting, so flat sales don't look bad at this moment. I expect the next iPhone quarter to be flat also.

Unless everyone bought their Mac and iPad in the last 14 days, returns would be accounted for. And if they resold them, what does Apple care? They still sold the unit at retail price and even if the person who bought it didn't like it, someone else clearly did since they were able to sell it.

Exactly. Why do some always have to be negative.

Because they want Apple to take a financial bath to force the Board to oust Tim Cook because they operate under the delusion that once he is gone, someone who loves the Mac and doesn't care a whit about anything else will be named CEO and the Mac will be the sole focus of the company and made "great" again.

It will come crashing down once when the iPhone 8 fails to meet expectations in September

Another ill-sighted prediction from the Macrumors consensus. Fortunately These types of comments are not indicative of real world results, which we all know the success that will follow the iPhone 8 launch and you know it.

Someone always has to make everything negative. So Apple offers a lower priced iPad. So what.

Heh. Someone always has to have their pun detector off -- even as a flaming smile emoticon is part of the sentence -- and then get offended because they miss interpreted what the OP was saying.

Let's look at what OP said and I'll bold for emphasis to make it easier for you to get his joke --

The new cheap iPads are selling, got to pad those unit numbers :)

Also there is nothing negative here. Now go have a candy bar or a bourbon and have a laugh.
