*holding off buying Apple stuff, just to be able to buy Apple stock instead*

Yah - delayed gratification. Make your money work. Then you can get "free" Apple stuff from an investors perspective I guess using profits or dividends or whatever. I get all the latest Apple toys, and don't blink at the prices - maybe because they can be considered as 'free' - sorta.

203.45 to reach the trillion valuation. Already at 197 after hours now. Champagne status is upped to on ice.

It might be lower? (or do I mean higher?) Reason would be that Apple spent $20 Billion last quarter on share buyback - so there are that many less shares.

If 10% of sales are Macs, isn't it time to trim the price on them? Doing so would boost sales, market share and overall revenues. Computers aren't going away, and tablets will never fully replace them - not for another 10-20 years, anyway.

Apple never goes after revenue. They only want that sweet sweet profit.

Tim Cook mentioned how he's seeing more and more people wearing the white AirPods.

I'll never use white earphones. Not the wired Apple ones, and not the white AirPods, either.

When I see someone using white Apple earphones, those people look like clones to me.

Sorry, Apple. Make your earphones in some color other than white, because until you do, I'll buy elsewhere. I won't wear something so tasteless and garish to help you advertise. Not at those prices.

Uh No.

REDMOND, Wash. — July 19, 2018 — Microsoft Corp. today announced the following results for the quarter ended June 30, 2018, as compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year:

· Revenue was $30.1 billion and increased 17%

· Operating income was $10.4 billion and increased 35%

· Net income was $8.9 billion GAAP and $8.8 billion non-GAAP

Yeah your right 8.9 for the quarter.
16 billion for the year.

The TL;DR is this:

Apple made a lot more money overall. Sold about the same number of iOS devices as last year's 3rd quarter, but more expensive iPhones. Sold notably fewer Macs. Services up a little, other devices down a little.

30% YoY on $9 BILLION is A LITTLE? I'd kill to run a business like that.

Tim should probably stop attempting to please Wall Street's incessant demand for increased revenue (and profit) seeing as Apple will eventually run out of room to raise prices. Apple should be inventing the future, not trying to wring out another 30% from the iPhone.

Apple could care less about what Wall Street wants. That should be about as obvious as getting smacked in the face with a tennis racquet, but somehow you totally missed it.

The more money this company makes the worse the products seem to get (maybe not worse but “meh” compared to the quality they used to put out), at least that has been the case under Tim Cook’s Apple. They seem to be good enough for most people though because it is still Apple and the brand more or less sells itself at this point with some of their stronger points still in tact, like their; ecosystem, stance on privacy, customer service etc that keeps users ‘locked in’. Doesn’t mean their products and software are as good as they could and should be though.

Anyway, I don’t know why we should be jumping for joy over this, they are just numbers. I kind of wish they tanked so then Apple would be forced to make some much needed changes, like reconsidering Jony Ive’s importance within the company and, oh I don’t know... rehiring Forstall so the software doesn’t suck for another 5 years? Their hardware has been WTF’ery as well with their inferior keyboards, severe lack of ports, notches and protruding camera lenses... Jony Ive just isn’t as good without Steve Jobs as his filter. He has become a burden within the company for me by having talented guys like Forstall fired because the poor fella doesn’t like working with him. I’m sure there’s a few other board members there who need to be canned, Cook just seems to can the wrong ones.

Thank your for providing us with excellent examples of circular logic, internal inconsistencies, and self-fulfilling prophecies.

I’m not wishing them to lose money but frankly I don’t care how much profit Apple, or any other company for that matter, makes. A company can sell crappy product and make a ton of money while another makes a good product and can’t stay afloat financially.

In the 60’s and 70’s the big 3 auto companies figured out that they could skimp on quality and still make a killing profit wise. Until it finally caught up with them in the mid to late 70’s. Chrysler was basically bankrupt by the early 80’s.

Don’t use money as the sole barometer as to how good a companies product is.

Aside from profits, which barometer would you use to measure the success of a for-profit business enterprise?

On a side note, notice how no one is talking about smart speakers anymore? Seems like it just wasn’t the new computing paradigm people hyped it up to be. It was simply another vector of attack for Apple haters.

Another quarter, another “Apple is doomed” narrative quashed.

No, we take the word of corrupt "reviewers" on YouTube that are sponsored by the competition, and people on the forums that simply hate Apple, and don't say anything but hating on Apple.

That's how "we" accurately measure the success of a company.

No... every Apple product I have purchased has been much better than the one it has replaced, based on a variety of metrics.

Hat tip to Mr. Cook leading Apple!

How much more do they have to earn before you people accept that the majority of people loves Apple's current products?

Popularity isn't necessarily a measure of quality, true. But having this popularity year after year - every brand, no matter the loyalty, would've erroded by now if the customers weren't satisfied.

And with good reason, in my opinion. Because they make some really great stuff. But since you don't seem to like it, it must mean that it's just brand loyalty and ecosystem locks, right?

Yeah, you're exactly the kind of thinker that drives Apple these days.

You’re not allowed to complain about the company losing its soul and gouging it’s customers. The stock holders will hunt you down; they’ve gone mad on their greed.

Anonymous commenters on tech blogs in no way represent the real world. You should know that by now. If we took any of these hater’s comments seriously Apple would have disappeared a decade ago.

So, Macs bring more money to Apple than the iPad? Even though iPad is outselling Macs by large margin.

It is all in the price per device. But also, people still want Mac. Apple, it is your move. Give us some nice Mac hardware, and watch the Mac sales explode.

A drop of .57 million in Mac sales reflects the keyboard failures as well as the messup of the newer systems firmware.

Apple needs to regroup and think outside of the box if they want to grow the Mac sales. I’m suspecting they are becoming bogged down in the design process and mis-readinging the market.
No, the drop reflects that the 2017 MBP launched in Q3 last year, but won’t hit this year’s financials until Q4 (July-Sept). So last year’s Q3 had a bump.

Plus some potential buyers held off this year, knowing a refresh was imminent. So this year’s Q3 took a hit.

Basically a double whammy. I’m surprised they sold as many as they did.

Based on total outstanding shares in May. That number is less now that Apple has bought back shares. So the new share price is definitely higher than $203.45.

definitely! It's not a pleasure to use new Macs any more. But some people have just money restricted vision. Nothing better can happen than replacement of that weird person.

Meh. Love my ‘17 MBP. Best computer I’ve ever owned. 1TB SSD that is fast AF, and all in all, sexier than hardware has a right to be. Oh, did I mention that the keyboard is flawless?

*SuperCachetes holds long positions in AAPL.

That's quite a dip in Mac sales. Hope to see some really good numbers in the 4Q 2018 and an even better 1Q 2019 with the rumoured updates for the remaining Mac lineup.
That's a very bad optic for Macs, the only major product line that decreased significantly. Even the crappy iPads did better (slight uptick in sales).

Still better than 2016, which saw continuously steeper drops every quarter before rebounding in 2017. Average price per unit is the highest it has been in some time (and iPad is at it's lowest).

I’m very happy as a shareholder, but I’ve never been less enthusiastic as a consumer of their products. I’m using a Mac from 2013, an iPad from 2014, and an iPhone from 2016, and I can’t see upgrading from any of them in the foreseeable future because I don’t see anything being sold that is a both a decent upgrade and reasonably priced. Do love my AirPods and Apple Watch though. I can see why their wearables business is booming.

Well, none of those items are very old. Maybe the Mac releases in the Fall will do it for you. But a 2013 Mac isn't too old. I'd upgrade that iPhone for the camera in this Fall's release, but other than the camera, the old iPhones pretty much do the same thing as my iPhone X.
But not upgrading your devices isn't the issue. Apple will have a problem when you buy a Windows PC, and an Android Tablet and Phone. As long as you don't do that, then eventually Apple will get your money on those items.
