Imagine how well they'd do if they innovated and didnt have catastrophic design flaws like bending phones!

Interesting that Apple are throwing Apple Watch into the "other" category before it's even released.

But that is still more likely (I am guessing and pulling this out of my ***) more iPods sold than the combined sales of Zune and other competitors in their lifetime.

Not surprising. Everyone is finally aware that iPads are practically toys that lack the versatility of Macs. Anything the iPad can do is already possible on the iPhone. Until they stop using a phone OS on tablets, the trend will continue.

I think it’s more complex than that. The major reason is pricing. The base price for a full size iPad is $500 minimum. Why should people keep throwing money at a gadget that still gets updated? Wasn’t one of the reasons for buying an iPad was because of the support? And let’s not forget the price drops on the older models. I still see people on Craigslist trying to get $330 for a used retina iPad mini. Makes zero sense. You can get a $250 refurb with a full 1 year warranty.
And without any major improvements (I don’t call thin and making a product faster with no real noticeable differences from last year’s model an improvement.) Apple is just recycling the same old idea over and over again. Ipads have sold in the millions and the market is over saturated.

I'm absolutely thrilled for Apple and all that, but how is this going to fix my iPad, and why did they go to soldered ram.

It doesn't matter that my life sucks as long as Apple is making money, that's really all that matters.

Yup.
Long long time ago, my sister convinced my mom to buy a bunch of shares....I thought it was a really stupid thing to do, but my sister loved the company. I was saying t-bills, she insisted on a part of the portfolio in this stock. I was a PC/enterprise guy and saw it is a toy. We argued, I lost.

Many years later, I shared an inheritance with her and I enjoy her needling me about it...she earned it.

Very well then, enjoy your success :)

I would like to hear a few words in this conference call regarding GT Advanced, the entangled hundreds of millions of dollars, and their resolution.

It may be worth noting that, while the reported iPhone unit sales were up 16% YoY, sell-through was actually up 26% according to their conference call comments. And that's with iPhone ASPs being up about $25 YoY.

why are most of the questions related iPhone 6 and plus? what happened mac computers, 2011 mbp logic failure, solder macs, and mac pros?

Apple made more money from Macs than iPads? Am I reading this right?

There is a difference between profit and revenue. For example, Apple sells a 1,500$ laptop, the revenue will be 1,500$, but the profit will be much less, maybe as little as 100$ in such a saturated industry. A 700$ iPad easily banks 350$ in profits, so Apple is most likely making way more money off of iPad sales.

Just $8.5 billion profit? That's IT? With the slave labor, tax evasion, and other fancy accounting tricks? Cmon....

No way Skippy the Shareholder is going to accept this. I demand finding even cheaper labor as in toddlers who you don't have to pay anything to at all. That'll squeeze out another billion.

:p

Are you a stockholder? If not, why do you care? As a customer you get soldered ram macs with $300 ram upgrades and 16gig starting storage with iPhones. Yet you take glee in it. As a customer, you ought to be offended rather than cheerleading like a schoolgirl.

Why should I be offended by a company that is really good at making money? They sell hardware priced in such a way that allows them to make a huge profit, and people buy that hardware. There's nothing sneaky or immoral behind that. If you choose to buy their product, you do so acknowledging that a good portion of the money you give them is going into their cash hoard. Don't like it? Stop buying their products. Just like I won't be buying the new Mac Mini- I don't need to post countless threads and posts about how awful Apple is for releasing it- I'll speak with my wallet and move on with my life, just like so many other people on this website need to learn how to do.

This year's releases:

  • A new Mac Mini that's actually worse than the older one.
  • A "new" iPad Mini that is basically last year's model with a half-assed gold paintjob.
  • A new iPad Noob (where is the iPad Pro, Apple?).
  • A phablet.
  • The iPhone 6, which is actually nice, but marred by tons of quality control issues (call gate, bend gate, and so on).

Yep, a truly exciting year!:eek::mad::mad::mad:

But hey, Apple has bought Beats! Now they have a woman beater on the staff! Surely that's a recipe for success!

Humor me with this hypothetical situation. Suppose Person A and Person B live a remarkably similar life, with the exception of their attitudes.

Person A: My house isn't big enough, my car is old, I'm all out of the food I like to eat, work was awful today, and my wife nagged at me for something ridiculous.

Or:

Person B: I have a house that keeps my family and I safe, a car that gets me from point A to point B, enough food to thrive, a solid job, and a loving wife.

Which type of person is more prevalent on MacRumors?

I already know the response I'm going to get: "Are you suggesting that we should just be grateful for whatever Apple chooses to sell us?" And the answer to that is no. But if you find yourself viewing Apple through the lens of person A more often than person B, maybe it's time to consider finding other manufacturers that make the products you really want.

So how come we get so many "Steve wouldn't have" comments here?

You'd have to ask the posters who make those statements, but I suspect the context of the respective article they responded to would fill in those blanks.

I just wish they'd put as much effort into delivering on phone orders in the US as they are rolling them out in other counties. I ordered my 6+ opening weekend, and I'm still a couple of weeks away.

My wife wants to order a 6 tonight, she'll be lucky to have it by Thanksgiving.
But some guy in India will have his phone before I do.

So on the conference call Apple says  Watch will be included in a new category called "other products". This category will include iPods and accessories.
Hiding the watch between a lot of other stuff helps to avoid the embarrassment of not being able to create a major new product category after Jobs dead. As long as no one knows how many watches are sold, you can't really make fun of it. Smart move Apple.

And without any major improvements (I don’t call thin and making a product faster with no real noticeable differences from last year’s model an improvement.) Apple is just recycling the same old idea over and over again. Ipads have sold in the millions and the market is over saturated.
I do call thinner and faster improvements to the iPad Air 2.
I also call better screen technology, better camera, Touch ID (and Apple Pay), and lowering the price on the 64GB and 128GB models improvements.

They are not enough to get me to replace my iPad Air after just one year, but why did you feel the need to leave several things off your list in order to make your point?

Really pleased to see both categories doing so well. Bought a Retina Mabook Pro earlier this year. We'll see about finally snatching up an iPad next year.

The retina MBP is a dream of a machine. I love mine. Hopefully this pushes Apple to reconsider replacing their Mac business with iPads.

That could go both ways though. I'm sure Apple makes big money from Mac Pro and iMac sales, especially as people start speccing them up.
