And I misspoke. I meant to say the last (not only) time Apple had a YOY increase that high in the March quarter was 2015. But even some bullish Apple analysts on Twitter are saying March guidance is soft. Again, soft based on what?
That March guidance being soft is ludicrous. That's based on nothing but analyst dreams.

it's not popular in Europe as the price is much higher than in US. I know quite a lot of people with Appl phones, but none of them bought IPX.

Nothing like anecdotal evidence to counter the cold, hard reality of the Q1 numbers, right? Face the facts, X is a smash hit.

This is insane. Majority of people are not that crazy and this will be nicely visible in the next Q report

It‘s always the next quarter proving Apple is in trouble, isn‘t it?

Anybody want to speculate what, if anything, Apple will do for the stockholders with the money they bring back from overseas????

Nothing?
Increase dividends?
More stock buybacks?
Etc........

They are holding their own with much higher profit margin products than the competition. So greed.

It's possible because the naysayers are delusional. The only significant negative is related is 1M less iPhones sold (possibley because the X was late in availability compared to earlier product cycles, and a few buyers waited).
1 million less because there was one less week compared to last year.

It is not him who needs to do anything, but the critics and the detractors who have been dead wrong time after time, year after year who really ought to examine their own sources and bias. Maybe try to understand Apple a little more before shooting their mouth off. They may not like Apple very much, but Apple is not going to fail because of a few hurt feelings.

Why do people here get themselves all worked up over this nonsense that has no effect on them? Who cares if the critics are wrong? Why lose sleep over it? Why not enjoy your iPhone etc and laugh at them?

No one is doubting that iphone x sells on 1st quarter and apple made record quarter.

the issue is 2nd and 3rd quarter NOW that all the FAN boy bought the Iphone X.... their numbers in the next few months is very questionable.

That’s ridiculous. This week, and every week before, iPhone X outsold all other iPhones. Anytime you use the word “fanboy” to support your argument you should know you have nothing to support your point.

It’s not about being right or wrong but about knowing enough to engage in a meaningful and informed discussion. How would you feel if you were similarly involved in any conversation with a person in real life who clearly has no idea what they are talk about and are blatantly making up random pieces of information as they go along?

I can ignore critics on other blogs and forums. What about those here? When you try to reason with them, they just stick their fingers in their ears and go “Can’t hear you. Apple is doomed. Lalala.” And pollute the thread while they are at it, making it next to impossible to have any sort of meaningful conversation in any thread here.

Or have you not noticed?

Since when did ignorance become a point of view?

As a stockholder I'm obviously very happy. Stock price way up after hours. iPhone X not just a great phone (love mine) but a blockbuster, especially considering its late release.

Good times. Except for those here who, for some sad dark reason, want to spin Apple's best quarter in history as a negative, lol.

Ditto. Hoping the dividends trickle up a bit more than the 10%/yr pace.

In real life, I break off the conversation and move on. I can only control what I do and say, not anyone else. Ignore them and discuss with people who are interested in conversation, even if you disagree.

Sadly, the number of people here who belong in the latter category seem more the exception than the norm.

Fake news is annoying. And the fact that it’s the same fake Apple news every single January and it still turns investors into nervous nellies is even more annoying. And rumor sites reporting this garbage as if it’s legitimate news. I can be annoyed by something without losing sleep over it. ;)

That’s a good question and it’s too bad Apple wants to keep the answer to itself. If I had to guess, I would say the 8/8 Plus probably outsold the X.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the “iPhone X surpassed our expectations and has been our top-selling iPhone every week since it shipped in November,” which likely contributed to the shift in numbers.

Okay, wish there were actual numbers, but it’s better than nothing.

It would be lovely if this rather greedy company would invest its profits into helping or indeed preventing people from becoming homeless. Every where that I look now on an evening I am seeing people in doorways. The system is not working and being honest, just hearing about Apple's greed is repulsive.
I've been an Apple customer for 23 years and I own two or three of their products but damn, they are obese, greedy in their entire business.

Apple products have been expensive since it was founded. This is nothing new.

Go now Cook. Apple is rudderless under your control.

This means the CEO is clueless if he's giving divvies. Apple never gave them under Steve for a very singular, fundamental reason. Steve had a roadmap for USING the ca$h but Tim is just a bean counter.

Average Sales Price is revenue divided by units sold. Apple does not keep the taxes, duties and tariffs they collect as they are passed on to the applicable government agency. So they would not be considered part of the ASP.

Are we absolutely positive the tariffs are not inclusive to the ASP? I’d suspect the tariffs are since they most likely have a discounted max total based on a certain threshold in tiers (say $1mil for every 10mil revenue). Is that something disclosed in shareholder meetings during financial quarterly reporting?

False!

Apple gave dividends when Jobs was chairman and a new CEO (me sugar water) was hired. Then stopped for a few years after his return until 2012.

Proof: since you 1992

I dont believe that at all. Steve wanted to hold onto cash in case the business started to decline so it had a cushion. Fact is Apple is MUCH larger than when Steve was around, even steve would have loosened the purse strings by now.

1992? Steve left Apple in 1985 and didn't return until December 1996. He died in 2011. What are you gibbering about?

You're entitled to your opinion but you've no proof whatsoever that Steve would have approved any dividend. There is zero historical data to show otherwise.

Despite everything I’ve said and I’ll admit I was slightly too bullish on the quarter, I just want everyone to understand how insane $20B of profit in 90 days truly is.

This was a double digit increase (13%) over last year.

From a business perspective, Apple is literally the best company in the world. This was the most profitable quarter in corporate history.

Dividends, buybacks and M&A. Luca Maestri told the Financial Times that they see Apple reducing its net cash position to $0. It’s around $135 billion right now after the one-time repatriation tax and the EU fine.
