Man, I like Apple products as much as the next guy here, but this is seriously getting out of hand. Stuff like this is way, way beyond reasonable. It's disgusting, in fact. If and when Apple keeps acting so arrogant, I don't know if I'll be able to ethically justify supporting them anymore. I'm holding off any product buying decisions until they rethink what they're doing and decide to act reasonably again.

Yes, please do so, lest the world think you're a horrible person. By the way, in the spirit of helping you cleanse your conscience, can I have your other Apple stuff? I mean, if you get rid of pretty much all things Apple, you'll be absolved completely from the serious moral implications of owning certain tech products. Promise! I'll be more than happy to take ownership of your "sins."

Oh yes it is, it has been for some time:

ironic, isnt it?

No, the video is STUPID. I remember a viral video about Hillary that used the same over-dramatic image. It was stupid about Hillary, too. In fact, it was a little stupid idea when Jobs used it about the Mac, too, but it was new, and directed by a great director, so it worked. But an icon like the Big Brother screen is not THINKING.

Big Brother meant a political idea of force and the total subjugation of the individual, the destruction of History, and the poor, toothless, frightened Winston Smith actually coming to Love Big Brother. It's about politics.

Big Brother today might be the tendency for all big business to buy our government. It is also the National Security State, which I believe that both parties are not doing enough to open up. Big Brother's relationship to a large corporation that makes consumer computing devices that a lot of people like? Not so much.

I have the same feelings about Samsung and Google. I'm not alone.

Apple is all wrong ?!!!!???!!

So, when Apple starts a litigation against thoses who may have allegedly infringed on their IP, people scream "Apple is a B!tch.......!!..." and when it is defending itself from others who file a litigation against Apple, people still scream "Apple is a B!tch.......!!.."? So seems like Apple is in a no win situation :)

I'm not really sure why anyone is outraged to be honest. My wife works with lawyers and they want to win so they do everything legally allowable. I'm quite certain no company ever tells their lawyers, "we don't really want to win so don't try too hard."

Just on tech sites that have nothing to do with market realities. MR is its own self-contained little community, closed off from the rest of the world. But it's such a fun place to visit. ;)

and their image just keeps cracking. by the end of 2012 apple will be the lindsay lohan of gadgets. trashed by the media for their redic behaviour and abonded by many ppl out of principle. it already shows even on MR, ive never seen so many anti-apple fights on here than recently

keep the down votes coming ;)

Show me with logical, well thought-out arguments as to the great blunder that Apple is committing. As I see it, Apple is telling Motorola that they had better be prepared to face the consequences of losing the fight. How is that "redic behavior?"

I am amazed that people accuse Apple fanboys of being illogical and irrational in their love of all things Apple. Apple's critics are just as bad. All I have seen on this thread is, "Apple is worse than Microsoft" or "They're so arrogant." Not one person has backed it up with some logical argument. What is so bad about what Apple is doing?

I'm fascinated by the planet you live on. Do you guys get broadband there?

You're way, way out of touch with the market, never mind basic consumer behaviour.

Apple doesnt have a case, they'll lose time, money on their new team of lawyers, etc.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you were the judge. Seriously, the courts will decide on the outcome and it will vary based on where it is heard. People are trying to sound like experts but, the only guaranteed outcome is that the lawyers will make money. At the very least, please add a "In my opinion" to your post so you don't look foolish when you are wrong.

You need to remember that the people you are referring to are baiting for downvotes to validate their non-conformist sense of self worth. The no-win situation is reading comments to macrumors news articles. :p

Just look at Apple's numbers, customer satisfaction ratings, and brand loyalty. Apple is in a very "win" situation right now.

Sorry. Apple is *nothing* like Microsoft. Nothing they've done to date even approaches that.

apples-flawed-evidence.jpg

According to Dutch IDG publication Webwereld.nl, the image used for a side-by-side comparison between the iPad 2 and the GalTab 10.1 is either wrong or manipulated. On page 28 of Apple’s filing, the image of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been cropped and the image ratio has been tampered with. Samsung’s tablet measures in at 10.1in x 6.9in x 0.34in, while the iPad 2 sports dimensions of 9.5in x 7.31in x .34in.

So if you were looking at the tablets side-by-side (both in portrait position), you’d notice that the iPad 2 is a bit wider from side to side, but shorter in length. Based on the specified dimensions, the aspect ratio of the GalTab would be 1.46. In Apple’s evidential image, the aspect ratio is 1.36 (8 percent wider than it should be), making the Galaxy Tab 10.1′s “overall appearance” look “practically identical” to the iPad 2 (which has an aspect ratio of 1.30). And that’s exactly the language Apple used in its complaint — also on page 28.

Clearly you just choose to ignore all the previous discussions on that issue that made the images irrelevant. Nothing like going back in time to be wrong all over again and again.

This is beyond pathetic. Instead of fighting their competition on the market, where they should, they're fighting them in the courtroom! Cowardly, to say the least. Why the hell aren't they fighting all those Asian knock offs as hard as they're fighting Samsung, HTC, Motorola...?
Apple, I knew you were a bitch, but you've just reached an all time low.
[/RANT]

You don't seem to understand Motorola is taking action against apple here and not the other way around.

I don't know what scares me more, how many posts in this thread ranting showing a complete lack of understanding or the fact that 75% of the posters are on my ignore which means the overboard ignorance here is magnitudes worse then I even see.

Once again this is Motorola taking action versus apple. Please at least try to absorb and learn and understand at least the very basics before ranting.

How is apple being arrogant? Do you have any real understanding of what this article is about? Your post indicates you do not.

Correct. It was just some unsubstantiated claim that was born (and died) on the internet.

Apple is blowing off a lot of "good will" with these lawsuits, for sure.

Who's talking about YOU? I'm talking about the market at large, not an infinitesimal subsection of it that turns tech purchases into a moral quandary.

Although it might be counter to your world view - people do consider the reputation of the company when making purchases. And for every diehard fan who's shouting "Go Apple - kill Samsung", there are many more who aren't of the "Apple can do no wrong" mindset who are having their opinions of Apple lowered with every story about these anti-competitive lawsuits.

(Look at the effect of the oil spill on neighborhood BP service stations, for example.)

Wins the award for "arm-chair psychologist-of-the-year". Really?

Numbers which could plummet in a month if the teen-somethings/twenty-somethings who love to show off the fruit logo become embarrassed to have a fruit logo on their toys.

That is because the trolling here with apple hatred and irrational behavior grows every day.

I really hope Arn realizes that the ever growing influence of trolls is reducing the value and usefulness of MacRumors for people who legitimately want to discuss the stories and issues here.

I for one already have a massive ignore list, one that can not possibly keep up with the number of people just playing games and hating on here. It has reached a disconcerting level for me and I know it has for others.

This thread is a perfect example. 70% of the replies are hidden from me because they are made by people who have clearly proven over time are just trolling and hating. 20% of the replies are from people who have no understanding or idea of what the story is about and just mindlessly bash apple and 10% are people looking for some legitimate discussion.

I realize that page views are important for an advertising based website but the continued roughshod trolls are having on these discussions make it almost unreadable.

The funny thing about this is that Apple sells so many gadgets that the cost to Apple for shutting down iCloud in Germany would probably be in the $3B per year range. Apple shutting down a competing tablet might justify $100k bond (if that) due to no sales volume numbers to back up any claims of lost revenue.

Apple is so large and does so much volume that this aspect of the law really favors Apple because their potential losses would be huge.

What is annoying here is that folks think Apple is wrong for defending itself when Motorola is being the aggressor saying Apple is using their IP and they think Apple is wrong for being the aggressor when others use their IP. Which is it? What is Apple allowed to do in conducting business? The real answer is they don't give a darn what the out-of-touch folks on this forum think, they are going to do everything possible to defend their market position and seek out a greater share of the market. This is what I would expect Apple and every one of its competitors to do.

I didn't know about the bond aspect until it was posted on here. That's a good idea - if someone really wants to put a company out of the business, they should be required to put some skin in the game.

No problem with Apple doing this (or Samsung doing the same to Apple).

Apple loses nothing by employing these tactics. They have the financial wherewithal to continue with this, and the consumer ultimately barely knows about this, nor really care even if it was known.

Apple knows they have a case and are pushing it. More power to them.

This also serves to put Google on notice that Apple is willing to play the game long-term.

Precisely. This is a message to Google. Google has always been the end game. Android was simply the On-Ramp being used be HTC, Samsung, Motorola.

Eric is sitting looking out the window as we type wondering how they got in this position.

Google and Android will be funding a large portion of Apple's R&D by the end of 2012 (assuming we are all here still. Apocalypse and such.) :apple:
