Yeah I liked how those looked too. Way better than the white. Damn top cases wouldn't stop chipping through. One of Apple's all time worst fails was that top case.
I have a 2009 white model and it has chips all over the case. I wonder why that type of plastic was so prone to that.

I would trade one black matte finish and .25” of additional bezel around the screen for at least 3 USB-C/thunderbolt 3 ports, function keys & touchbar at the same time, the return of at least one USB-A port.

My main concern is that they're talking about micro-pores to scatter and absorb light. I can *easily* see those pores filling up with body oils from hand sweat etc. and you'd have glossy smudges all over the matt surface in no time. Cleaning that would likely be a nightmare. It'll look great new, but not so much the next day...

I definitely would NOT like a true black. Definitely not. But I would take a slightly darker space gray any time.

Have you found that the Space Grey Macbooks finish wears easily? I have pretty acidic skin so don't want to wear out the areas where my palms rest but always gravitate towards black/dark colours for my tech.
I haven't tried to be honest. I just look at the display ones at the Apple stores, and see that the edges are all worn and you can see the shiny silver underneath. May as well start with silver then, imo.

This is EXACTLY what I want in a 12 inch MacBook with M1/M2. Funny, I was just saying to someone earlier how I would love it in matte black, but I know that won't happen.

Its also been a while since we had a "apple has put their attention on actually reducing bugs in the OS at the low level, starting with SMB and over all system stability"

I wonder if now at least there will be internal teams competing - the chip guys saying the reason this app doesnt run well is no longer an intel problem, its the software arm. Please god.

My black iPhone XR is decently matte black on its aluminum band. But sure, by all means, go nuts with your extra super black stuff Apple. Just please don't forget to charge us an extra $100 for the color option.

This would be pretty bad aers.

I would put up with my wife jawing my ear for a month to buy one of these...

Black will make this laptop slimmer??

Seriously, I wonder if the MacBook with such finish, which would absorb all wavelengths of light and thus appearing to human eyes as black, would generate excessive heat.

Regarding the comments about it getting hot because it absorbs all wavelengths of visible light... is this correct? I remember from school that the better something absorbs energy, the better it radiates it (otherwise things would just get hotter and hotter). I am fairly certain that if you have differently coloured blocks in a room, they will all be at the same temperature as the room and hence each other. Happy to be corrected by a physicist out there!

What about matte display? Wouldn't that be better?
Courageous, maybe?
Yes! One of these matte black machines with a matte display would be awesome—I had a matte version of the mid-2012 MacBook Pro and it was sooo much better than my current, glossy 16" MBP. I'm feeling pretty impatient about jumping onto the M1 ship, but if this rumour is real, I don't want to jump too early... I suppose first-half 2021 could be possible... maybe... Mind you, I'm definitely holding out for at 16" machine anyway.
