Interested to see who takes over the Apple Card. I wouldn’t apply for a new Apple Card if you’re on the fence.
Agreed. I had to cancel my card when I got rid of the Apple ID the card was tied to, and while I really liked the card, I won't re-apply until the new partner is established, especially since that would involve unfreezing my credit, yada yada.

Why is Apple’s statement crossed out? Is that a posting mistake?
It's because Apple has since issued a new updated statement:

"We are aware that a small number of users were having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard Apple Card and for that we are sorry. The vast majority of Mac notebook customers Apple Card holders are having a positive experience with the new keyboard Apple Card."

"Specifically, the CFPB found that Apple and Goldman Sachs violated the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Act and the U.S. Truth in Lending Act by mishandling transaction disputes and misleading iPhone users about interest-free payment options available when purchasing Apple devices with the Apple Card. These failures impacted "hundreds of thousands of Apple Card users," according to the agency."

I bought a refurb MacBook from the Apple Store with my Apple Card. Was not notified that the purchase would not qualify for interest free payments. If there was info about this I sure missed it.

This is shocking. I’ve had nothing but extraordinary service with my Apple Card.

We had an incident where someone was able to impersonate my wife with Chase bank and get access to to our checking account. They started reversing and disputing all kinds of transactions in that account, including payments to my Apple Card, and trying to transfer the returned funds to a savings account at another bank.

We noticed quick enough for Chase to get all but $1800 back. They said they would un-reverse the the transactions, which they some how screwed up and the money was not in our account nor returned to many of the payees it was originally sent to. Suddenly I had a huge past due balance on multiple accounts and all Chase would say was they returned the money and say I had to take it up with my other accounts. In the process of trying to work the issue with Apple Card support our case got noticed by someone at the executive level. I got connected with someone in Eddy Cue’s office that then got us setup with a dedicated specialist at Goldman Sachs. That guy freaking went to work and got crap done, and he did it for every account he could, not just the Apple Card. When Chase basically threw their hands up at us, he went to work through back channels of the banking system we didn’t have access to as a consumer. It was fun because I got to sit on the phone with him as my authorized representative ripping into someone that handled inter-bank transfers at Chase for screwing it up.

When it was all done he even checked up on us about a week later. We were talking about how inept Chase was. He suggested I switch to a ‘real’ bank but noted I didn’t make enough money for that.

TLDR: When I had trouble with my Apple Card, they gave my middle class butt access to the kind of banking support the 1% get and it was AMAZING. So I find reports of them failing consumers very surprising.

Apple should trademark a 'small number'.

I don't use the Apple card much because the reward system is horrible compared to other cards.... You are leaving so much on the table in terms of reward if you are just settling for 2% cash back (and that's if you use tap)..... I do use it sometimes because of the convenience though..... I've had several cases where I've needed customer service and it has gone really smooth every time.

I spent nearly two hours yesterday and almost an hour today with both Apple and Goldman Sachs trying to pay for an Apple Watch band purchased from the Apple Store online using Apple Pay. When it came time to ship I was informed I needed a different form of payment. The Apple Card was declined even though the card has plenty of headroom and is in good standing. Goldman's end advice after MUCH screwing around: "Use someone else's card." Eventually an Apple advisor resolved the issue this morning by having me read her my Apple card number & expiration date (obtained from inside the Apple Wallet application, as it isn't on the physical TITANIUM card). I've had American Express handle several issues over the last two decades and they have NEVER, EVER, recommended that I use my VISA instead. This is something I'm certain they could rectify in a minute or two... Why on earth would I enter all that info if I didn't have too? After all, that is one of the main advantages of Apple Pay - something you certainly have a reasonable expectation of working at an online Apple Store! Another nasty aspect of this event was that the initial Apple advisor (Ron, that's you) promised me the moon and recorded every aspect of the incident, assuring me that some crack department would quickly resolve it. The next day, with the order still on hold, I call Apple and they say, we have no record of you ever calling us about this. Grrrr If it is one thing I absolutely detest, it is cranking out a description of an issue four or five separate times over the course of making a support incident report. While this issue was resolved, I have a very, very poor impression of the card issuer.

I have not been able to use my Apple card since my wife and I merged our accounts. 🙄.. month and still counting... they call me to tell me great news!! We are still working hard to resolve your issues and get your account up and running.. but while you wait, is there something I can help you with? Yes, fix my card 😒.. has anyone run into the "invalid Card" check the information on your card and try again? when adding it to the wallet app?

I had my AmEx gold skimmed at a gas station a few years ago and the resulting fraudulent charges were fixed and completely gone in less than a week.

My point, however, was the how did my Apple CC number get used half-way across the county when I had never physically used the card online, offline, otherwise, or even used it will Apple Pay?
That’s a good question. Compromised iPhone?

I love Amex and most of the banks I use but I also realize many of them for some reason make claims difficult sometimes. It’s par for the course.

I endorse AppleCard for normal small transactions.. particularly like I used it in London for easy ApplePay/TOL (transport of London) wallet access (just tap and go).. handy. I do not use it for major purchases (instead my Amex or even BofA Visa). Why? A couple years back I realized that don't give you yearly summaries like Amex for-instance (for my CPA at tax time). However I called GS and the agent was gracious enough to send me all the individual statements in PDF form so I could easily forward to my CPA. Since then I believe they now provide an Annual and/or year-to-date summary; although I'm not certain. If Apple goes with an experienced bank with consumer products it should be fine. I DO use AppleCard for the benefit when buying a new iPhone or MacBook Pro. I just wish (an aside) that they'd bring back a 27" or even 32" iMac.. but I digress.

I’ve personally experienced Apple Card’s abysmal customer support when dealing with disputes. This was when Apple Card was brand new, so I figured they would have addressed it by now.

When it was new, I made a single online purchase using the actual card number. A week later the card had 2 fraudulent charges totaling several thousand dollars.

Getting these fraudulent charges disputed was a nightmare. It took over a month to finally get disputed. But it was nerve wracking because it started with a very confrontational initial fraud claim. This had to be done thru messages, and the support reps essentially acted like I was lying and full of crap. Kept telling me these charges went thru therefore they were legitimate charges and couldn’t help me. I kept begging them to understand me…I am trying to tell you that these ARENT legitimate charges and I did not authorize them. They were acting like well that’s your problem, don’t lose your card number, we can’t verify your claims.

I was honestly shocked and terrified I’d end up footing the bill. Until I finally got through to someone who understood I’m just trying to make a basic transaction dispute that is standard with any other CC service, they charges had to remain on my account and I had to continue paying my monthly dues while the investigation took place. It took over a month, so I had to pay these charges until I eventually got credited back.

It was a nightmare, and I never use Apple Card for anything OTHER than Apple Pay transactions now because of that. I have zero trust in getting a fraud charge disputed ever again, so I’d never risk the card number getting stolen ever again.

I'm all in favor of spanking misleading consumer credit activities. This article surprised me because Apple Card gets so much right - such as showing the impact of bigger payments on total interest paid.

Too many people simply don't understand what they sign - they only understand payments. Case in point, a friend just revealed to me that he didn't understand why his 4-year $40k car loan has a payoff balance of $38k after making monthly payments of over $1,000 for the past year. I asked what interest rate they got and he didn't know! People don't understand credit at all.
What? You need to read the article again.

The main point of the $90 million dollar fine is that customers fraud charge reports were being denied and customers were being stuck with paying the fraudulent charge.

One user on reddit shared they had six fraudulent charge reports denied. Thats insane.

As others have said on here, Amex waves a wand and it’s cleared with little effort.

Why use the term "alleged"? If they were fined, then the issues were real not fabricated. Lol.

Secondly, this thing becomes typical of Apple. Why am I not surprised?
Agreed. This is bad journalism, respectfully.

A government agency performed an investigation and found Apple and GS complicit with abuse of customers and were fined.

You would use the term allegedly if the agency announced they were starting the investigation.

It's a nice card and is easy to use. I use it for all my Apple purchases.

The benefits are pretty mid. It's not the worst card but its not that amazing. I still like it though

The Apple Card is the best credit card I've ever owned, and it's my favorite. I love that payments show up instantly, that I get instant cash on transactions, and that I have a pretty high-interest savings account, among other card features.

But that doesn't mean that it's perfect. I haven't had any issues, but obviously others have, hence the CFPB's involvement. Apple and Goldman should stop fighting, pay the fines, stop the illegal conduct, and move on.
If you have other then very short term money in a savings account, you are giving that money a vacation from working. I haven’t had a saving’s account in years since you can get better returns elsewhere.

Feedback noted. Headline updated. Thanks!

I love my Apple Card and regularly spend $2-3k monthly with it. HOWEVER, the two times I've had disputes, Goldman doesn't do **** to help you.

I put together 10 images showing exactly when I returned an item to Amazon and I begged them to call Amazon to confirm they had received the return and they refused. Amazon didn't want to issue a credit because they thought Apple had already given me one, but 3 months later, Apple took it back. Those sneaky bastards. Just a quiet email that went to my spam to say I'm getting recharged. Easily spent 20 hours trying to reverse this $100 charge. Finally got the BBB involved and it worked, but my first dispute for $700 also went awry and I never recovered that money.

Grrr.... the card is great... until it isn't. $90M isn't near enough to cover the damages they have caused with their shenanigans

I’ve been an Apple Card user since the beginning. They resolved any charge disputes immediately, and I’ve not had any issues whatsoever. I’m very happy with the card, and use it as my primary method of payment

Now if they would add Tap To Pay on the actual, physical card that would be an improvement, but it’s not that big a deal really, since it works with the phone and watch
