hahahaha! You believe what the spokesperson for Apple is saying? It is not hard to lie and cover up. Sounds like Apple is sweeping it under the rug.

Wake up dude, We are getting played.
I believe the spokesperson from Apple a hell of a lot more than some fake news posted on the internet. If a person from Apple makes such a statement then Apple has to back it up. Sounds more like you just want something bad to come from Apple. SMH. 🙄

I can say there are contractors who are required to appear on camera for a environment check every so often

Full stop - that is insane.
"An environment check!?"

GTFO with that kind of uber creepy crap which has nothing to do with accomplishing the job at hand.

Jesus Christ...
What has happened to Apple?

My god. The last few weeks of news is making me never want to give them a nickel again.
That, of course, if your choice. However, there has to be some basis in this. Apple isn't just waving a magic wand and determining that on Monday, 8/9/21 a subset of employees will have cameras monitoring them.

Read. The. Article.

“A spokesperson for Apple, Nick Leahy, said that the company "prohibits the use of video or photographic monitoring by our suppliers and have confirmed Teleperformance does not use video monitoring for any of their teams working with Apple."
Still. The supplier works for Apple. And Apple also says they “did not find any core violation during recent audit” which is just lol.
Plus, Apple has their own Audit issues regarding supplier on assembling lines etc before. Nothing hugely new here either.

Big Corp does not care about your feelings when most of the money they make on the back end is through gov contracts. This isn't an Apple thing, this is an agenda that all the monopoly companies will foist on the world in unison and they will stick with whoever's version of it worked the most effectively. Apple will play the bad guy so some other bad guy can come along and give you a flavor of tyranny you are more willing to submit to. You will pay to have an extra room for your job or someone else will fill the void. That's their mentality. Mine is this, make your walk in closet your office if the job pays good enough, if it doesn't, don't give them your labor. Just like they didnt pay to keep you at their office so you can take brakes they don't want to pay you to handle any non work related function at home. They are not doing you any favors, you are the one who has to keep compromising your life for them. Its never the other way around. The sooner we know that and the sooner we know there are more of us than there are of them maybe we can take our power back and put them in their place.

I just don't agree with how Apple is handling privacy concerns lately. I love Apple, Trust me :)

If true, this is one of the most disgusting forms of micro management I have ever seen.

A spokesperson for Apple, Nick Leahy, said that the company "prohibits the use of video or photographic monitoring by our suppliers and have confirmed Teleperformance does not use video monitoring for any of their teams working with Apple." Apple said that it audited Teleperformance in Colombia this year and did not find any "core violations of our strict standards,"

Is anyone actually reading the article? This is a contract between Telepresence and their workers. Apple is not mandating this. In fact, per Apple's spokesman they prohibit this type of activity from their suppliers.

Okay Apple, at least an electronic ankle bracelet with a 3 foot square perimeter. Or maybe an electric dog collar. This is not the Apple I came to love. Even if this is a sub-contractor Apple is supporting it, but hiring them.View attachment 1816583View attachment 1816584View attachment 1816585
Yes, but that was Steve's Apple after he came back to rescue it and when he was still at heart an ideologist entrepreneur.

This is now Tim Cook's corporation, or the Corporations Tim Cook - you decide...

First, MR shouldn’t bury the Apple response at the bottom of an article about Apple’s response. Nobody reads that much text on the internet, so filling the article with a bunch of information before the part where Apple says the prohibit that for their workers is just inflammatory.

Second, readers shouldn’t be so knee-jerk. Read to the end, think, then respond.
I did read to the end. Apple's denial seems hollow. Are they calling the Columbian workers liars? Are they actually investigating this specific allegation?

I don't really see the problem to be honest? Cover the camera or unplug it completely when you're done your shift. I'm 110% for WFH but we also have to be flexible. When "at work" having your employer able to monitor you is not the worst thing. Again this is as long as the employees are allowed to physically unplug it when they're off.
I've been in management for a long time.

Treat your staff with respect and dignity and they work hard and make an effort.

Treat them like criminals (or iPhone users pedophiles!) and they'll be watching the clock and looking for other jobs.

Also, why do you need to see them? Just look at the call statistics, customer feedback, and randomly monitor their calls, and you'll know if they're doing a good job.

If Apple actually is against this, they'll tell this company to stop doing this for ANY customers (not just Apple) and use their massive leverage to make it not happen, period.

Just saying "they don't use it when working for us" (but knowing full well they do it for agents working for other clients) is crap from Apple.

This is the equivalent of being in a brick and mortar. They can see you there, they should be able to see you while you are working.
Why do they need to "see" you? If their work is being done remotely, why do you need to "see" the employees.

Can you actually defend your position instead of giving some nonsense "but this is equivalent to" argument?

Why does monitor employees require watching them? Aren’t there better ways to see if an employee is doing the job/task they were hired to do? Kings used to love watching their labor work long days.

This isn’t even Apple, though. If Telepresence wants to do this, it’s in their right as a corporation to do so. Apple’s only solution would be to have some assurances that cameras aren’t used for the folks that are working on THEIR contract OR find another provider.

“I work on the Apple contract in Bogota” will be researched by Telepresence and Apple both and, if they WERE working on the Apple contract, they won’t be shortly. LOL

WOW you actually had the audacity to spin this around to make this Apple's fault??? Good God! 🙄

Let me get this straight, large Companies farm out their support to lower waged workers that barely speak English and now they want to monitor them in their homes. Funny, I have had issues with AT&T and had a difficult time understanding their Philipines based call centers. At one point, I ask where they are based and they have started saying," We are not allowed to comment for security reasons". BS, they are simply propping up the profit margin of the company.
Those 'low wage' workers may not have the 'accent' but they have professional work ethics and I have had much better customer service experience with them compare to workers from well developed countries.
