Basically- all those 2 million folks who pre ordered will be unwilling beta testers lol.

Kind of like us 4S users who were beta testers for Siri!? I thought it was google who always releases the Beta products to their end users! Wasn't gmail in beta for like its first 5 years!?

I believe I can see the future.....people are going to go out of their way to find the mess-ups found on Apple Maps. Then complain about it.

Call me psychic.

How does everyone know the new maps program sucks so much? Has everyone had enough time to use it? I thought the old one was terrible....

I'm a developer and have had access to iOS 6 since it was announced as a beta earlier this year.

It sucks. Trust everyone that says so.

"the more people use it, the better it will get" = we are secretly uploading all your pics from your device and eventually we will have images of everyplace on Earth.

1 day into ios6 and I miss the old maps :(

heh heh, and tomorrow you will like your new IOS 6 map... It seems everyone miss the part of the announcement where Apple talked about map extension and 3rd party vendor.. I think Apple is smart in letting 3rd party developer fill in the blank for them. Now we have more choices. I am pretty sure some other companies will have their map extension on public transit and other things that the Apple maps miss.. Can you imagine how long it will take Apple to update the map of a remote town in Brazil or China or Southern Africa? But having an open interface allow parallel development around the globe to fill in the blank.. I would wait 6 months before making any kind of judgment .. But my guess is that all the reviewers who has harsh word on IOS map will have to eat their words by then...

Garmin and Embark announced on Thursday that they have updated their iPhone navigation software to add public transportation features to the new Maps in iOS 6.

Navigon now features integration with Apple Maps in iOS 6, giving users the ability to find public transportation information in the new mapping software. The Navigon app has also been updated to take advantage of the larger 4-inch display on the iPhone 5, which will be available on Friday.

Garmin will also update its StreetPilot Onboard iPhone application in the near future with support for public transportation data, the company said Thursday.

"With our recent updates our apps can now serve as an extension to Apple Maps, providing iPhone users advanced navigation capabilities," said Joern Watzke, vice president mobile phone business at Garmin Wuerzburg GmbH. "This includes our new public transportation functionality as well as many additional premium features that aren't available on free navigation apps."

How do they expect people to use it when in the first place it is not usable ??

It works fine for me in my area. Even avoided some traffic on the way to work due to an accident that was reported on the map. But my needs are not the same as everybody else's.

Has the Google Maps apps even been submitted yet?

It's awaiting approval from Apple.

I think this sort of puts Apple in a tough position. Do they approve or not? Because if they do, no one's going to really be using iOS Maps. If they don't, they'll look like the bad guy screwing the consumers.

"Now let me show you something REALLY SPECIAL... It's our new Mapping App and it's unlike anything that's ever been done before by any company on this or any other planet...It's the greatest, the fastest, the bestest, the coolest... We've been working on this for the last 5 years. The fact that it takes you across open fields on roads that haven't existed in 25 years- that's not a flaw, it's a feature! It's MAGICAL! It's like a time machine in your pocket..."

FWIW, from my experience, there are errors in Google maps, Map Quest and in TomTom as well. Google or others didn't get to where they are over night either.

ah so thats why the changed there service agreements way back when do let them track your phone and all that ... so they could compile 3d maps of everything. :) jk .. but that COULD actually work... if it wasnt a creepy thought

On the rumor that Google has submitted an iOS 6 Maps app and Apple is sitting on it ∞

Additionally, we’ve learned an updated iOS 6 version of the Google Maps.app has been submitted to Apple.

Nope.
