Apple is reportedly aiming to release the features as part of iOS 26.4, in March or April next year.

This means Apple has simply no idea when it will actually ship. That date is vaporware.

I am rightfully known in these parts as an Apple Fanboy. But their complete failure at implementing AI in any meaningful way, and their complete miss on Siri, is the first time in their history that I've doubted the capabilities of Apple going forward.

The users suing Apple have no case. The iPhone 16 was not an Apple Intelligence focused device. Apple’s lawyers argued correctly that the iPhone 16 launched with many features that enhanced the user experience.

This case will be dismissed. Plain and simple
What? The iPhone 16 was nothing but AI driven. Constant AI commericals, constant AI delays. They advertised all of this AI BS on every carrier commercial to make people run and grab the phone and half of the features weren't even delivered. Not to mention IOS 18 was a disaster of a release from day 1. They 100% have a case. Nobody ran out to get the iPhone 16 for the camera. Believe me. It's not that great.

"I'm gonna be a dad!" :p

But honestly, I can't believe that people are really THAT upset about this. I've never put so much stake in a company's software promises. Is it disappointing? Sure. Does it really affect me in any meaningful way? Nope. Siri has always sucked, so I never had high hopes for anything anyway :D
Says you, while charging your iphone 16 on Apple Airpower ;).

I think Tim on the other hand had some high hopes for Siri.

Force user to upgrade to phone as the only way to get new features...and advertise those features heavily and then don't give them new features. Pretty cut and dry to me.

Siri is so out of date at this point - it's almost broken. I just give up in the car half the time.

They literally marketed the phone as being “built for” Apple Intelligence.

Agreed. They were that close to calling it the AIphone 16 (Apple IPhone)

I'd beg to differ, they made it the main feature

And it states quite clearly that Apple Intelligence is coming this fall (in 2024). It's perfectly rational to assume that people bought the phone to access Apple Intelligence functionality as it was advertised.

Apple walked right into this. They allowed the "Wall Street analyst" nonsense get to them.

Because after all this time, AI is STILL NOT READY for Prime Time or even viable for ANYONE, much less Apple.

And the lawsuits..
AI companies are still facing huge liabilities with so much pending litigation that will not go away. How many BILLIONS did Anthropic agree to pay for just ONE lawsuit?

But the "Apple is behind" cheerleading continues, Still just blowing smoke up it's a** to get them to make dumb moves like this one.

AI still has a long way to go. It is not yet remotely ready as a consumer product from anyone. And Apple knows that. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT. Apple just has to wade through the noise. Anthropic, Open AI and the others are in a tight pickle right now, but Apple still has the money to and more importantly the TIME to get it right.

We have been hearing the same foolish "Apple is behind" foolishness for how any YEARS now? While no one is able to deliver a decent AI product for how long now? Where Apple continues to make tons of money?

This is all just Wall Street nonsense, and perpetuated by a "tech news" social media echo chamber that loves smelling their own farts while at the same time created a massive HYPE BUBBLE that is ready to burst.

Having said all that, whenever they release something, they better make sure it is completely ready, and more importantly done right. Apple is not a nobody start-up, they have a reputation of "just works", people rely that it is all carefully vetted for them and safe. People choose Apple because it is NOT Android. Because it is NOT Windows. Delusional or not, because it is better. People have much higher expectations from Apple, while Android is known for being rough around the edges and scammy. People EXPECT that from Android and Windows. Which is why we have IT departments.

Because if they release a bad AI product, especially with the Siri albatross hanging over its neck, it will be far far worse than not releasing anything at all. Hopefully they can ignore the noise and wait until it is fully ready. I mean ready ready. not jut to appease Wall Street ready, because again, as with this case in particular,

...NOT ignoring the Wall Street and tech news echo-chamber nonsense will be far worse.

..Especially when the noise comes from an investor focused "news" organization like Bloomberg that will push on the gas peddle on something when it suits them, where you know someone like Mark Gurman is most likely just spiking the punch when it suits them.

Being built for something don’t not mean “launch ready”.

All MacBooks starting with the M3 were built for Apple Intelligence. I don’t see anyone complaining.

The PS5 was built for 4K/60fps. How many games. Achieve that

All Tesla’s built since 2018 were “FSD” ready. We’re in 2025. How many successful lawsuits.

The answer to all three is NONE.

Just because it is built for something, does not mean available on day 1. Apple very clearly specified Apple Intelligence is a beta product with more features releasing in the future.

Announcing features saying it'll be out "soon" is ok by me. At least Apple isn't anywhere as egregious as Tesla/Elon when it comes to making promises/announcements.

But advertising is totally different. Having ads, billboards and other stuff talking about it, showing it off as if it's real, that's gonna be a problem methinks

Oh I’m not against holding companies accountable but there has to be a way to line up the pockets of the actual aggrieved party and not the fancy lawyers.
Agree but, without any suits, corporations - even ones that profess to be whiter than white, (cough, cough), would do a lot less to make sure they serve the customer well.
I defy anybody to claim that the existence of these suits, regardless of verdict, make companies more likely to play silly sods.

Then don't advertise it ON A SPECIFIC DEVICE for the world to see and not be ready until the next phone. It's pretty simple.

This is the result of Apple's shortsighted decision to make bold claims about "Apple Intelligence" when the stock price started slipping last year after they got caught with their pants down with nothing in the works to hop on the AI wave. The iPhone 16 was going to sell regardless so in hindsight it probably would've been better to not make any claims about AI without something ready for release soon.

Unlike many people here, I actually really like AI. Some of the things I’ve seen Google and Samsung phones do is incredible. I want that. I bought the 16 Pro Max because it was the beginning of Apple Intelligence. I had no other reason to upgrade from my 14. It was the AI. I do think Apple should get hammered for this one. They made false promises because they didn’t want to be left behind by other companies. And how many AI features will lock out the 16? Especially with 8GB of RAM.

I did not get the AI I was promised. I got a bunch of balogna.
Gemini IIRC Is also available to iOS. I use it on my Samsung phone, it's amazing. I can just ask it to, "I have an appointment on this date,' then it would schedule it by cross referencing my contacts and then search their address to put it on google maps before sending it to my car. It can even play whatever Apple Music playlist from my Airplay speakers. All of my packages are also automatically tracked and placed on the calendar. While waiting for Apple Intelligence I highly suggest people to try out the Gemini App.
