While Apple did seem to drop the ball with AI it’s not the end all of how you use your iPhone . I don’t use it and dont plan on it unless it blows my mind somehow.
You, okay. Fair enough.

But there are plenty of people who believed Apple when the company said they could deliver on their promises. Maybe even hardcore Apple fans who were convinced until AI that Apple was an honest company.
And of course, these people feel deceived by the advertising. Even if Apple tries to brush it off with "only two features"? Or because Apple is trying to distract with features that were never advertised in the AI ads?

Compare it to a car manufacturer:
"Starting this fall, our brand new car will only consume 1 liter per 1,000 km. Only with Car Intelligence."
And then the manufacturer defends itself with the statement: "That's just one of thirty new features our car has. And all the other 29 features were delivered. Therefore, the lawsuit should be dismissed."

Don't tell me you would excuse the lie in the advertising with another feature.

Just be aware that all the "Mac" computers now have 16GB for AI. So the iPhone 17 has 12GB while my iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB has 8GB. Neither of these two iPhones will probably run AI very well, but the iPhone 18 with 16GB will do just fine.??

Two sets of purchasers (iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 customers) will fell shafted when the dust settles on AI.

I wonder if the 2TB option on the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be the necessary minimum for all the AI data to make it work?

Wait wait wait, aren’t they the ones who said Siri is finally gonna be “intelligent”, and where we are? In 2025 they cannot even fix how Siri interprets basic English words and different accents, not even saying that you cannot just use it in any language you want at some given moment and STILL gotta set one particular language in settings.

ChatGPT with which you can actually talk like with a human laughs in the face of this so-called “Apple Intelligence”.

Apple needs to be taught a good lesson not to give any false advertisement and to NEVER advertise features they are still working on. One is only allowed to advertise something that actually exists, other types of ads are fraud.

Oh and btw, it is high time for them to fire their PR, marketing and sales departments. If Steve Jobs (R.I.P.) was alive this wouldn’t even happened to start with, back then Apple’s ads were actually fun, creative and short, they didn’t need to make some weird ads about non-existing features

"I'm gonna be a dad!" :p

But honestly, I can't believe that people are really THAT upset about this. I've never put so much stake in a company's software promises. Is it disappointing? Sure. Does it really affect me in any meaningful way? Nope. Siri has always sucked, so I never had high hopes for anything anyway :D
Very true and I think for most people, this will be the honest reality.

That said, there also will be some people who would not have upgraded their phone to the 16 had they not believed that it was necessary to enjoy the promised features coming soon to that phone. They will argue that had Apple not made those promises, they would have simply held onto their previous device. I suspect that's the nub of the issue. Good luck with proving that though.

I'm no legal expert, but it feels like there ought to be a case to answer, and not dismissed out of hand. That said, I would not take a bet that the action will succeed.

I’m against Apple on this one. But I also know the only winners in a class action are the lawyers.
Oh yeah... I'm guessing 1 or 2 new centi-millionaires and a few decamillionaires will be minted from the settlement.

Those consumers in the class action suit will get a year of Apple TV+ on the house... Apple One if they're super, duper lucky.

I’m surprised anybody is defending Apple on this one

I don’t think too many are defending Apple. It’s a bad look to be sure that Apple will have to work hard to gain any credibility in AI.

However crappy or not, the courts are fickle these days and laws don’t always make sense. The jury is out (pun intended) on the outcome of the suit. That’s not defending Apple it’s a condemnation of the legal system.

Yeah. I think Apple should have to give a refund to anyone who returns their iPhone 16 or $350 cash not store credit. Apple lied. Apple delayed. We still don’t have the advertised features and it may be more than a year more before we see them that’s it Apple can get on top of it now.

Apple will end up settling I am sure but I actually think they have a decent fight here. The commercials said "coming in a future software release". That's still not false.

That being said, Apple has enough paid lawyers and PR staff. They don't need my free help.

The users suing Apple have no case. The iPhone 16 was not an Apple Intelligence focused device. Apple’s lawyers argued correctly that the iPhone 16 launched with many features that enhanced the user experience.

This case will be dismissed. Plain and simple
Completely untrue, AI was the main selling point. All the commercials were AI focused also. Totally wrong on this. Apple should lose big. I really think anyone who says they bought the 16 series for AI should be able to return their phone or get a $350 cash settlement. That’s my guess on the number of the value.

Yeah, the level of tech illiteracy of members of the judiciary, combined with the best legal team money can buy could swing it in Apple’s favor. I hope that does not happen in this case.

Yes, it was. It was completely sold for Apple Intelligence. All of the marketing materials on the sales site were geared toward AI. Which, unintentionally, turned into a "bait & switch" for a lot of users.

I upgraded from the 14PM to 17Pro. I had apple intelligence on for all of 3 days. After I tried to use Siri to call someone in my contacts "Siri Call ___" and it called an attorney office on the other side of the United States. I've used this Siri command hundreds of times without apple intelligence and it worked nearly every time. Also the Emoji generator is terrible. The email summarizer provied absolutely no value. What a miss.

However I love the 17pro in Orange. Great color and the camera update is noticeable.

Certainly eyebrow raising
Better question is who upgraded or purchased an iPhone solely for AI. It’s a talking point for many average people but reality is it’s just a novel feature and some may find it beneficial while others don’t care or see it as an off-chance value added option.

I have used some AI options but most of the time I forget is even there and don’t even bother to use it. My 16 Pro upgrade was a routine cyclical thing for iPhone hardware.

I bought a 16 Pro Max because I saw what Google and Samsung were doing with AI and thinking surely Apple’s attempts would be better as they usually are at other things.

Begs the question how a company can struggle with meeting the industry standard with so much money in the bank. Seems like they have no problem spending that money on legal fees though.

That being said, I bought a 17 Pro for the thermal management and smaller size. Anybody still waiting for AI from Apple at this point is a glutton for punishment because the whole AI bubble’s probably gonna pop before they implement it properly.
