I'm so, so tempted. But I'd still need to buy a monitor for it. I haven't found anything I'd even consider besides the Studio Display (which isn't happening at that price) other than the Huawei MateView 28 which isn't even sold in the US.
I am still holding out hope for iMac 27"

iMac "bigger" will probably return eventually, priced like iMac 27" pro was priced.

In other words, I suspect a lot of people hoping for a 27" revival are hoping for 27" pricing too. With Studio Monitor showing Apple "we" will pay almost as much for only the iMac screen alone, expect the computing guts added into that screen to add MBpro-like price on top of Studio Display pricing, minus a bit for duplicate parts like MBpro screen. My best guess:
  • "starting at" $2999,
  • nicely specced: $3999-$4999,
  • loaded: $7K-$12K.

Anyone else notice that the Mac Studio on the refurb store has a financing option? (Notably still not the Apple Card 0% option.) I don't recall ever seeing that available for any other refurb options on Apple's .com store. I wonder if that is a mistake.

Too much $$$ for this machine when you can get by with a mini for a lot of consumer stuff

I had no problem with the price of the Max/1TB Studio I ordered. It was the fan whine that generated a return. It was perfect in every other way.

So close, Apple, so close. I know from your other products you can do silent at idle. If you choose to bring that to the Studio/M3 in 2023 (2024?) I and my money are ready to go.

Studio Display is pretty great imho, image quality is awesome with true retina 2x. I’ve bought one, not cheap but I love it everyday.

Tell me if I'm wrong but the last time I looked, refurnished prices were not much less than educational pricing.

Looks like a waste of time for anyone with access to educational pricing.
I may have said this before, but this is worth it for anyone who needs an M1 Ultra Mac Studio asap. Buying a new one won't arrive until the middle of September.

Edit: Sorry for not answering your question, but yes they are the same exact price as the educational pricing.

No argument here. Totally understand that returns are a necessity for any successful business. I've done my fair share of returns myself. But no matter how you slice it, returns are an expensive cost to the company. Warehouses, shipping, labor, retesting, repackaging. It all adds up. I am not saying that I want Apple to make returns more difficult, but if less people purchased with the intent to return, the savings would be considerable.
All true but it seems like under current CEO, former logistical legend COO they've done what they're best at these days. They found a way to make money off the whole thing. They have a whole system in place to reduce the cost and make more than it costs off these still expensive refurbs.

In my area they have only the terrible low-res imac from '17 and the base M1 13" mbp...

Whenever I see the rear of this machine I can't help but see Mickey Mouse....I think my brain has finally gone bonkers!

Same thing.
Samsung M8 looks rather cheap... plastic cheap.

Good to hear, being a photographer. Looking forward to getting mine.

Looks like they presently have only 512 GB models which leads me to believe that serious users who purchased Studio Macs w/ higher end storage, etc, are very happy owners. I am one of them! The returns are likely coming from 'curious' users who planned to return the device from the start and not 'serious' ones.

Can you imagine how much less these devices would cost if Apple never had to worry about returns? I once heard that retail prices for consumer products are doubled to cover overhead from theft (shoplifting), and returns.
There have been behavioral economics studies on this. Retailers with generous return policies typically have more purchases and more return customers without many more actual returns because the customer probably wants the product he’s trial buying.
